On the first day, I met with Melissa Thompson, the assistant director of the library. The
director will not be in until tomorrow (Tuesday). When I first arrived, Melissa gave me a
tour of the entire library. It is not entirely huge but still a good amount of items available
for patrons. She pointed out how things are organized on the shelves. We also
discussed the Dewey Decimal System and where to locate items. New items are
displayed on separate shelves, so that patrons can see whats new. They receive a red
dot so that they can easily be kept out of the main stream items.

One of the tasks I was given for today was to shelve books and movies. I was
completely unaware at the amount of movies available for patrons, and many of them
are new. The childrens movies are placed in the juvenile section while the movies and
music are in another location. I also learned of the amount of time books and movies
are given for checkout periods: books, 2 weeks; movies, 5 days.

The day was not extremely busy, though there were times when there were not enough
computers available for the patrons. The library keeps a log by either writing down the
patrons name from a drivers license (if they are out of town) or by scanning his/her
library card. When all of the computers are filled and someone new enters asking for
one, Melissa has to ask the first person listed on the chart to complete what they are
doing within the next 15 20 minutes. She said the exception is if someone says they
are taking a test and cannot quit within that time. I was also informed of some of the
inappropriate behavior by some patrons when using the computers. I asked if there was
a filter, and though there is one in place, patrons are still able to work around it.

I found that several patrons use the library for faxing, copying, and printing. All of these
require a fee. One lady had her husband come in five minutes before we were to close
and ask us to make a copy of an 80 page scrapbook. Of course, this took longer than
five minutes but I suppose you do what you have to do to please the patrons.

There were several other random facts that we discussed throughout the day. One is
that the librarys sensor for counting people that enter the building is broken. Therefore,
someone at the front desk is required to manually count and record the number of
patrons entering the building. I believe this will be hectic next week when the summer
reading program starts up. Melissa also briefly spoke about what the summer reading
program would entail. Cameron Burton, the director, has mentioned that she will give
me the details about it tomorrow. The library uses Virtua as their automation program. I
did not get to use this program, but Melissa showed me different things that it does.

I arrived at work around 9:30. This gave me 30 minutes to put items away from
yesterday afternoon. After I finished, Cameron started informing me on what the reading
program will consist of. She has been planning this program for a few weeks and
gathering the materials needed for both the stories and crafts. She mentioned that the
process is much like creating lesson plans because you have to be aware of the amount
of time you have, if the students will pay attention, and finishing early. In order to help
out with the program, I used a die cut machine to cut out 50 lions. They are actually
pieces of a lion that the children will be putting together to create a 3D lion. She will be
giving them fur and yarn to create a cool effect. This took much of my morning because
there were so many to cut out.

Cameron is already keeping an eye out for books to use during the fall reading program.
She mentioned that the library will take about three weeks off and then kickoff the fall
program. I am anxious to see if it involves as much planning as the summer program.
We talked about the summer program last year and how it has more than doubled in
size for this year. It is great that children are becoming more involved. I believe it is
because the library is under new management. That does tend to make a big difference.

I was also able to help out with sending several faxes today. I was surprised by the
amount of faxes we sent. It costs $.50 per page to send, which is not bad I suppose. I
also shelved movies and books. Melissa and Cameron both worked today, so when one
of them would check in items, I would put them where they belonged. I kept forgetting to
zap the books and movies before returning them. You have the run them across a
magnetic machine to activate them. This allows for fewer books being stolen.

Every Tuesday is delivery day. There is a man that works at the main library branch that
drives between the four different branches to deliver or pick up books that have been
requested from another branch, deliver new items, and take deposits to the main
branch. This morning we received a delivery of new items to put into circulation. The
majority consisted of movies but there were some childrens books included. Cameron
needed to spend the remaining amount of her budget for the fiscal year. She is still
looking at some things to buy. I was surprised that this branch does not place their own
spine labels on the items. All new items must be sent to the main branch first so that
they may catalog them. This does make sense to ensure that everything is done the
same way. After Cameron checks the items into the computer, she takes a picture of
each item and posts them on Facebook so that the patrons will know what is newly
available.

It appears that I need to retype this entry, as I do not know why it did not save
yesterday.

To start with, yesterday I put up books and movies once again. I really did not have
much to put away then. Cameron gave me the job to go through the childrens collection
and find books dealing with pets for the summer reading program, Paws to Read! I
found it easier to go through the shelves rather than looking up books in the library
catalog. I first started at the catalog but was not finding much to go off of. I even tried
using different search terms. The problem I believe is that the subject was too broad. I
liked seeing what the library had to offer the children. The easiest way for me to do this
was to go through the collection. I found several books that Cameron could use for story
time and displays. Some of the story times include service animals, pets without paws,
and safari animals. While I was looking through the books, I had a child ask me to help
him find a toy. He called it some sort of space ranger, and clearly I had no clue what he
was talking about. I started describing it to me and luckily I knew what he was talking
about then. I think it is a good idea to offer things for children to play with in the library.

During lunch Cameron and looked at a catalog and discussed her budget. She still has
a small amount of money to spend by July 1
st
. The money allocated for furniture and
supplies was what she was focusing on then. The prices were ridiculous. I asked
Cameron if she had to purchase items from there. She said that the main branch is not
too particular where she orders things, as long as she keeps it documented. She found
some neat items that would be great for this library, but we will see if she gets them.
One item was a set of place holders that showed patrons where certain types of books
were. For instance, it may have a bear on it and be placed in the reference section
dealing with bears. She thought that may help the children utilize the books better. We
also discussed different British literature options during lunch. I am going to be teaching
English 12 this year and was looking for something different to read to the students. She
showed me some of the books that the library has and the patrons tend to like.

At one point, we had a patron call in to see if we could locate a book she had donated
that actually belonged to the neighbor. This was the third time she had called and was
told that it had been sold. She could not understand that there was not a database with
a listing of all the books people donate. Honestly, I figured there would be one, too.

For a large portion of the afternoon, I had to create binoculars for a craft dealing with the
safari theme. It was my job to create a template to wrap around toilet paper rolls and
then connect the two tubes. It was a tedious job. During this time, someone came in a
booked the meeting room. I was surprised that you could book the room for things not
related to the library. I just assumed that it was for library purposes only. In actuality,
Cameron mentioned that their goal is to have several groups use the meeting room
throughout the month. We also discussed the expansion that the main branch wants to
do to this library. On either side of the library, there are currently two properties that are
not being used. However, the owners do not want to sell at a reasonable price. The
Friends of the Library has raised money to help with this, but it is still not enough to fund
the expansion. One of the thoughts is to add a wellness center so that patrons could
use both the library and fitness. I think it would be a great idea because we do not have
a wellness center in the county. It would be highly utilized.

Lastly, Cameron discussed the art program that Melissa is doing this fall. It is a neat
program set up for homeschooled children. Melissa has had to organize the entire thing
because Cameron believes that it is important for her to have something to focus on.
Cameron has offered her help with whatever Melissa needs, but is leaving it for Melissa
to take charge of. That sounds like a good idea to me. Cameron mentioned that Melissa
has been trying to keep in mind religious factors because most of the children are very
religious.

This morning was rather busy because we had a local daycare bring two van loads of
children to the library. Cameron set up a movie, Veggie Tales, in the meeting center for
the younger children. The older children that are in school were able to look through the
books and childrens movies. If they brought their library card then they could check out
items, otherwise they played on the childrens computer, played with the games and
toys, or sat around and read a book. I enjoyed helping the older children (grades K-
3ish). One child was determined to find a movie but we had a difficult time finding one
that he had not already watched. Thats not because the library has a short fall of
movies either. He eventually did find one. The smaller children were content watching
their movie. I believe they just enjoyed getting out and about. I can really tell that the
children love Cameron because they were all talking to her when they entered the
library. This is a great relationship that the library has with the daycare.

Around lunch, Cameron and I went to Wal-Mart to get the remaining supplies needed
for her summer reading program. She wanted me to see how the budget worked and
the leeway she is given when shopping. She is also responsible for purchasing the
cleaning materials that the janitor needs for this branch. I would have thought that the
main branch would have delivered this. Cameron mentioned that she used to do the
shopping when she was off work but the main branch told her they wanted her to do it
on their time and use the library van. It was a different outlook on what the library does.

When we returned, I continued working on the summer reading program, Paws to Read.
Cameron discussed how the program was put together this year. She had attended a
meeting at the main branch and they told how they were running their program. She
liked their ideas so that is what she is doing. However, she has come up with her own
craft ideas and the books that she wants to read to the children. Basically, she used the
same titles for each story time and event, but created her own lesson plan. Once again,
this is very similar to teaching because most teachers in the same grade and subject
will teach the same content but in a different way. While we discussed this, another
volunteer and I cut out several cats and dogs for more projects in the program.

Throughout the day, I also put up several movies (as usual) and some books. I am still
surprised at the amount of movies that people check out. Some patrons are in here
almost daily to exchange movies. It makes me wonder if this is because they do not
have cable at home and need something to do instead. Melissa talked to me about
some patrons checking out the same materials repeatedly. She said they will keep them
renewed for 1-3 months before returning them. Once they have been returned, the
patron will come back in a couple weeks and check out the same materials again. One
in particular checks out a dream book, so that is understandable as to why they would
need to keep it checked out continuously. However, it does make it difficult for other
patrons to get it. A patron can request the item and the person would not be able to
renew it then.

Today was a very crafty day. With still needing to put things together for the summer
reading program, Cameron had me working on a few different things. The first thing was
create a bowling set for the kids to play farm bowling on. I had to take the original
documents that had individual pictures of cute farm animals and the farmer and transfer
that onto poster board by using the copier. I then had to cut and use spray adhesive to
stick them to 2 liter pop bottles. Those were then filled with a small amount of sand. The
idea is for the children to be able to play a game after reading about working animals
and doing a craft.

I was also responsible for creating a clipart template to be glued onto popcorn bags and
prize bags for the end of summer reading party. Cameron trusted me to find something
that fit our theme and then go from there. It was a simple task by using Microsoft Word.
The tedious part was gluing the images onto more than 100 paper bags for each.
Cameron discussed whether she should buy those baggies premade or save money by
using what was already in the library; obviously we know which won.

Our last big task of the day was to refine the craft ideas to make sure there were
enough ideas for each age group for each day. Cameron gave me the list of her ideas
plus others we had found and had me see what I thought for each age group. Cameron
and I both had basically the same ideas for what was appropriate for each. We also had
to figure out how we could have the kids do a scavenger hunt for the jungle animals,
one of the weekly themes. I had first asked if she wanted to create clues but after
deciding that some of the children were too small to read or understand the concept, we
went for simply hiding the animals in different locations. It is sort of like a hide-and-seek
game. Though most of my day revolved around working with the crafts and summer
reading program, throughout the time I did still have to help put away returned library
materials.

I was sick this morning so I did not get to come in as early as I wanted to. However,
when I arrived, I had a large amount of both books and movies to put away. It usually
takes me no more than fifteen minutes but it took me a little over thirty minutes to put
everything away. It is not because I dont know where things are; there was just that
much. I suppose many Mondays are a busy day because patrons are returning their
items they watched/read over the weekend. However, last Monday was not very busy
so it is probably a hit-and-miss.

Cameron and I started discussing what still needed to be finished for the reading
program, which starts Thursday. Everything is basically ready to go with the exception
of a few small items that need attention. Rather than turn children away because the
time slots are filled, Cameron has added more to a couple of the classes. Therefore, I
needed to cut out more of the lion crafts to be done next week. We are also planning
how to run the scavenger hunt. Tomorrow will basically be the last day for preparing
things because we will have a lot of people working in the library then.

I was able to be a little more helpful with a couple of the patrons today. When Cameron
was in the back, a lady asked if I could show her where the series movies were located.
I showed her where we kept the new and the old. She asked for a specific set but we
did not have the most recent one. To be honest, Im not sure it is out yet. I stood there
trying to help her find something she may be interested in. She eventually took one of
my suggestions and some other movie. Sometimes it feels like I am pushing myself on
patrons when trying to help, so I back off; but, this lady was asking me several
questions so I felt the need to stay and help her. I also assisted Cameron in searching
for a novel dealing with mystery and a sniper. We were able to find it; it was called,
White Feather.

Cameron and I also discussed the library fines again today. As she was renewing some
movies for a family, she started calculating the fees that each member of the family had.
She said that she would not be able to renew the movies for the patrons anymore
because they have over $50 in fines. Knowing this family, I believe it will be very difficult
to collect the funds. She also mentioned that they would attempt to get out of paying for
the fines by saying that they had called to renew the items. While on the subject of
money, I was able to collect the fees for a few people that had printed documents.

I also have a few odd notes to include. Cameron did receive a new desk today. She has
been working from a very small desk that does not hold much of what she needs. The
library had given her free range of what to pick out but she finally made them just find
something cheap. I was able to check the dropbox out front but nothing was in there. As
I mentioned, this was a busy day. Though the numbers would seem low for other
places, ours were high. We had 11 on the computers and 74 total patrons for the day.
One last note, before we left I was helping shutdown everything and pack up. I was
surprised that the only computer that gets shutdown is the childrens computer. All
others stay up.

I was preoccupied with a task that Cameron asked me to do in the office area today.
However, before I started with it, I returned some books to the shelves. I also took a
little while to look through the nonfiction selection. I have been trying to get a better
understanding of the different subject areas of the Dewey Decimal System. I did find
several different interesting books that our library has. It is surprising at the vast array of
books. I also took a minute to look at the large print nonfiction selection. It is not that
large but still offers some options for patrons. During lunch, Cameron and I also
discussed options for bingo night at the library. Children will receive a book appropriate
for the age level if they bingo. We decided to ask a local patron to use his old bingo
machine and cards in order to add to the affect, rather than just using a bingo calling
app on her iPad.

As for my task that took most of my day, I had to organize all the previous and current
craft ideas into one filing cabinet. This was actually quite time consuming because the
previous librarian had collected several different things and simply placed them in
envelopes and then into a box. This clearly was not working. There was also a filing
cabinet filled with a lot of different papers that were useless in todays time, dealing with
crafts and lessons. Cameron left me in charge of figuring out the best method for
organizing as well as what to classify each of the good crafts. For instance, if there were
several crafts dealing with dogs, I simply labeled a folder dogs and placed it under the
D section. Before I started filing items, I went through ALL the envelopes with craft
ideas. Some were good ideas but most were trashed. As I was going through the
envelopes, I had to think about what would truly be used and useful for children.

Today was a slow day, partially due to the rain keeping most patrons away. To start my
morning off, I once again shelved returned books and movies. It did not take very long
so I took a few extra minutes to make sure the childrens movies were in the correct
order. Earlier during the day, I had a couple children come in needing help. The first
child wanted me to help her find some sort of book. The mother had told me nothing too
thick because she most likely would not read the entire book anyway. We went to the
spinner rack with popular chapter books. We went through several different titles to see
if she would be interested and she finally decided on Hannah Montana. To be honest, I
did not realize that Hannah Montana was still popular. Maybe it did not matter to her.
The other child I had to help was the girls brother. Rather than looking for books,
though, this child wanted help fixing the train set located on the train table. The track
pieces were once glued down so that kids can play easily with the set, but the children
continuously tear them off. Nonetheless, this child wanted me to put the track back
together in certain spots. It is sad to say that the child was able to put it back together
better than me. We did finally make it work.
During lunch, Cameron shared with me some of the paperwork that she is responsible
for turning in at the end of each month. We looked at last months and last years
statistics for several different things, such as check-out numbers for movies and books
and number of childrens programs. Cameron mentioned that filling in the information
can be quite tedious because there is not a program created that will automatically fill in
the blanks in excel. Instead she has to pull up the different reports with her library
system and then manually plug in the information into the excel document. We did look
at the major improvements from last year to this year. This is mainly because of the
library being under new leadership. We also discussed during lunch that the library
would benefit from having a circle time for children, other than the reading programs. A
weekly or perhaps twice a week reading circle would be a big hit. However, Cameron
would need an additional worker in the library in order to make it work with their
schedule. It is difficult to do a lot when there are only two people working in the library,
including Cameron.

During the afternoon, I continued working on my filing system. I was able to finish it
though it was beginning to give me a headache with all the repetition. I believe it works
rather well for Cameron. She can now easily find craft ideas instead of trying to look
through all the boxes and envelopes. The rain did bring in a group of hikers for most of
the afternoon, as well. Melissa offered them coffee and you would have thought it was a
turkey dinner to them. I was afraid we would have to tell them that we were closing at
4:30 but they were very aware of this and left about 5 minutes beforehand.

Today was the kick-off for the reading program. We had Snakes Alive! They have had
this program since I was in upper elementary so I am surprised that so many patrons
still come to it. There were 129 people showing for the morning program. These
numbers were great, especially compared to last years 44 people. In comparison to the
other branches of the library, our branch, though the smallest, lacked about 15 people
of beating the main branch, putting us in second. It really isnt a contest but it is nice
seeing how we match up. When I arrived at the library, there were already a few cars
parked outside, and this was at 9:30. The program did not start until 10:30. The library
was very busy after the program had finished. Since it was only for one time slot, all the
children flooded the library afterwards rather than in shifts. It was nice seeing it so busy
but the place looked wrecked afterwards. I suppose it does not much matter since that
is what we are there for. As Melissa and I were straightening things back up, she was
handing me movies that were tucked in some strange places. I guess the kids were
either afraid someone would try to take the movies they wanted or they just forgot about
placing them somewhere. I also came to the conclusion that Melissa really does not
work well with kids and when things are very busy. She seems to do pretty well with
older patrons but Cameron had to give her a break because she was starting to be very
rude to some patrons. I felt rather embarrassed but could not do anything because I did
not know how to completely run the library computer system.

After lunch, Cameron had me sort all the free books that she is going to give out during
bingo night. She has a ton of books for all different ages but they were not organized in
any manner. At first, I struggled with how to separate the items but finally was able to
place things in a manner that would make it easy for children to find something on their
level. During this time, Cameron and I discussed the annual Christmas party the library
has. It seems early but I guess you have to start planning early on. She was saying how
she wants to make it better than before but has not figured out how she is going to do it
yet. She wants it to be better than the previous Christmas parties that have taken place
at the library. We also looked at more cheap prizes in Oriental Trading for Cameron to
use for the fall program. We did not really make any decisions; she just wanted to see
what was available.

For some reason, today was a very slow day. Cameron has mentioned that Fridays are
generally slow, and so she was proven correct. This gave me a chance to create a
bulletin board for Camerons summer reading program. I had to come up with a system
for the children to easily locate their own names and place tickets that they receive
throughout the reading program for coming to different activities. Cameron had
mentioned placing individual names on Ziploc bags and then organizing them on the
board. I decided to create columns, separated by each class/age group. Though it was
a pain to staple each bag to the board without stapling it shut, I believe the concept will
work nicely for the children.

At one point throughout the day, Cameron, Melissa, and I started talking about the need
for a computer class. We had made mention of this before but I believe she is actually
going to set one up for this fall. That is the talk anyway. She would like it to be
somewhat small so that she can help the patrons one-on-one. She thought that just
learning the basics of using Microsoft and a little bit of the internet would be a great
start. I think there is definitely a great need for this in our community.

Melissa and I also looked at the West Virginia Summer Reading Program that they have
chosen to adopt. It seemed very neat and I believe it is a state wide program. Cameron
said that she had taken a look at that program before Paws for Reading was adopted
and was hoping the other would be chosen. It dealt with many different things in
science. The Paws for Reading does seem more juvenile than the science theme, but
you have to still be able to work with what you have.

Today was somewhat shorter than most of my days at the library. Though Cameron
was not working today, she did leave me a few things to take care of while Melissa
managed the front desk. First, I started making the cut-outs for one of the crafts
Cameron will use for the summer reading program. It involved me cutting out a center
for accordion dogs. I had to determine an appropriate size for the children to fold like an
accordion and then glue to their dogs. This craft is set up for all age groups to do. They
will be cute once finished.

I also had to make rosters for each of the summer reading groups. Cameron wanted to
be able to quickly check off who had been to each activity, so I created something I
thought would be easiest for her to quickly look at. I had to transfer names from the
hand-written paper that the parents had written on. I must say it was a little difficult
reading some of the names and I was afraid I would misspell a childs name. If so, I
suppose the parent should have better penmanship. While I was working on the rosters,
a patron came in needing help with getting an insurance form. I attempted to help her;
however, in order to get what she needed, she had to create an online account. She
was not too keen on this though I tried to inform her that it should be safe. She decided
to call her insurance company instead.

One of the last things I did today was try to help a patron find a few books for his
younger brother to read. He was looking for SpongeBob in particular. To my surprise,
our library only has one SpongeBob book, and, unfortunately, it was the book the
brother had just read. We started looking through the different shelves and new easy
readers to see if anything looked interesting. I found this to be a little difficult because
the child was not there for me to ask what he liked. The big brother knew some things
that his mother had told him to look for, though.

I enjoyed working on my version of a ring of fire for the circus animals during the
reading program. The circus deals with Paws at Work. Cameron wanted a game where
the children could try to throw the lion through the ring of fire. She let me make the ring
however I saw fit. I took a hula-hoop and placed red, yellow, and orange streamers all
around it. It turned out pretty cool for a simple game.

Since my ring of fire did not take too long, I was able to work at the front desk more. I
have started getting the hang of checking books in and out. I still have trouble with a few
steps at times or remember where certain buttons are, but I think if I did it on a regular
basis then I would definitely be able to do it consistently. Thankfully it does not get very
busy at the check-out desk so its not like I am rushed. I try to be friendly to the patrons
though and then they do not seem to mind waiting an extra minute. There was also
trouble with an update in the system. I am not sure if this will be something that they
choose not to fix until later, but it was irritating. I had to check in movies and then if they
wanted to renew the movie, I had to check it out, rather than being able to simply hit
renew as I do with the books.

I also found the library card system a bit different than what I would have presumed
them having. Since it is only a branch of the main library, all library cards must first go
through them. Patrons fill out a small card with their information and then the library
mails it to the main branch. Patrons are able to still check out materials though they
have not yet received a library card. After the main branch processes the new patrons
information, they send out a postcard to the address stated on the original information
card. This is to verify that the patron has actually given a true address. Apparently they
have had several people provide false addresses and then the library cannot collect
their materials or charge the patrons. So though I understand the point of the long
process, it does seem a bit drawn out. There have been some patrons come in asking
to get their library card but do not have their postcard. All the library can tell them is that
they need to either find the library post card or the library can resend one. I would think
patrons would find this frustrating. At any rate, there have been several new patrons
come in to the library and ask for a library card. Cameron says that this is largely due to
it simply being summer time as well as the summer reading program.

Today was a very busy day. It was my first day of working one of the summer reading
days. The library opens at 10 and the first group of children was to arrive at 10, so
everything had to be ready to go. Cameron also brought her puppy from home because
the lady bringing a service dog was too wishy-washy to depend on. The first group, a
day care group, arrived about 15 minutes late which put us tight on our schedule
because the next class started at 11. It ended up being okay. The two classes with
smaller children were read a story and then went back to their tables to create their own
farm scene from with numerous different stickers. I was afraid that some of the older
young kids would find this too juvenile but they all really enjoyed it. They were able to
take it home afterwards. The children then played farm bowling with the bowling set that
we had created. They really enjoyed trying to knock down all the animals. Each kid
received a red ticket to place on the bulletin board made for tickets. There are baggies
with each childs name so that the tickets do not get lost between now and the end of
the summer reading program.

The older children, consisting of the two afternoon classes, were able to do a craft
involving paint. They first painted, then listened to a story, followed by farm bowling.
One group painted a circus elephant that they then had to cut out and glue together.
The oldest group had the most creative and interesting craft. They did utter painting. It
involved taking plastic gloves and filling the fingers with paint. By cutting a small slit in
the end of one of the fingers, the kids had to milk a cows utters to paint a picture of a
cow. They really enjoyed this, though making a large mess. Thankfully Cameron
thought to take this one outside. I was also responsible for taking pictures throughout
the entire day for Cameron to post on FaceBook. She mentioned that social networking
and posting pictures of others kids draws in several hits.

In between class times, most of the children bombarded the childrens section, which
was perfectly fine. I was able to help several children find movies and books that they
were interested in. One child made it difficult as he had seen all of the movies that I
would go to mention. He finally settled on something. After all the children left or went
into their next sessions, I was responsible for cleaning up what was out of place. The
place hit hardest was the childrens movie section. It did take me a while to sort through
all the movies. Throughout the day, I was also responsible for putting up movies and
books from other patrons that had entered the library.

June 27, 2014 (Friday) 10:00 4:00
On-site hours completed: 6
Accumulated on-site hours completed: 97.5
This was my last day for working in the library. As always, I shelved books and movies. I
also had to clean out the popcorn machine that was used for movie night a previous
night. Though it was my last day, I finally was able to completely collect money from
patrons for fines by logging it into the computer correctly. Every other time I would
attempt it, I would get stuck at some point through the process, mainly because it was
not something that was done very frequently. I also checked in and out several items for
patrons. I was able to work the front desk a descent amount today because Cameron
did not have any planning/crafting for me to do. I enjoyed interacting with the public, not
to say that I did not get to the rest of the time. It was an interesting experience just
seeing how all the patrons interact and how they utilize the library.

Section II: Off-Site Hours

Accumulated off-site hours completed: 50 +

I completed the following activities to account for my off-site hours:
After finishing each day at the library, I took time to jot down notes of important
activities and other ideas from the day so that I could turn those into a detailed
log later that evening. (3 hrs)
Throughout my internship, turned my notes into practicum log entries. (.5 hr for
each entry x 14 = 7 hrs)
Prior to starting my day at the library, I reviewed some of the activities and plans
that the library director had informed me I would be working on for the day. If
need be, I brought what I would need with me to work. I also made a point to
review the suggested tasks that had not been completed as of yet. (4 hrs)
The remaining hours were spent completing the portfolio portion of my practicum
experience. (36 + hrs)
