HydroPlus fuel is a mixture of methanol and de-ionized water (62% methanol
by weight), is used to power Ballards ElectraGen
TM
- ME fuel cell systems. HydroPlus
fuel is rich in hydrogen, essential for fuel cell applications, and ofers advantages over
other common industrial fuels.
HydroPlus liquid fuel powered systems are particularly benefcial when onsite storage or
handling of bottled hydrogen is not feasible, when overall system footprint is a priority,
or where long runtime is required. Ballards patented fuel processing technologies
are integrated into our ElectraGen
TM
- ME fuel cell systems, which rely on
HydroPlus as a fuel source.
HydroPlus fuel is readily available worldwide and comes in a variety of containers
to ft customer needs, including IBC tote, 55 gallon drums, and 1 gallon
(3.78 liter) containers. In comparison to the short lifetime of diesel or gasoline
fuel, HydroPlus fuel is stable and has a lifetime of years, if properly stored.

ATTRIBUTES OF METHANOL
Methanol has consistent high quality, an extremely low freezing point
(less than 71C below zero), low reforming temperature, is biodegradable,
easy to handling, and readily available.
Its low sulfur content (< 0.5 ppm) simplifes the reforming process, reduces
the capital, operating and maintenance costs of the fuel cell system and
greatly reduces the risk of fuel cell damage. Methanols lower reforming
temperature ensures fast startup, high efciency, low system costs,
and a long product life.
