This article talks about a comparison of driving with high versus low perceived risk of
being caught and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The article explains how
few surveys were made to examine the belief, behaviors, and knowledge of drivers concerning
drunk driving. This article support how they designed a random digit dial telephone survey
which was conducted to receive several licensed drivers who reported their driving behaviors,
their knowledge of state alcohol laws, crash histories, and beliefs about various alcohol
encounters. Throughout this surveys, they determinate that over 90 percent of the public view
drinking and driving as a threat to their own safety and over two thirds view it as an important
area were public tax dollars should be spend . However, most drivers did not feel that it was very
likely that they were stopped by the police if they drove after been drinking too much. High risk
perceivers felt that it was very likely that they would be stop and arrested. Also the high risk
perceivers were significantly more likely to be non-white, lees likely to drive 10 mph above the
speed limit, but were more likely to have five or more tickets in their life time. It clearly there is
a need to elevated the perceived risk of being caught when driving while alcohol impaired.

Journal of Studies on Alcohol May 2006: 458. Academic OneFile. Web. 25 June 2014.

The article Acculturation and driving under the influence studies of repeat offenders explain a
research that was made in California about the population who drive under the influence of alcohol. The
article demonstrates that Hispanic population in the United States may be particularly vulnerable to
driving while intoxicated with alcohol. Hispanics are overrepresented among those arrested for driving
under the influence DUI in California. The United State made surveys of randomly selected drivers, high
and growing proportions of Hispanics were found to have been drinking, whereas the proportions of white
and black drinking drivers have decreased over that same period. Moreover, DUI recidivism rates have
been found to be higher among Mexican Americans in comparison with whites. The article explain that
there is not a reasonable answer for this problem ; they say its possible this Hispanic population may not
be adaptive to the U.S. culture and foreign-born Hispanics tend to drink less often may drive less
frequently, and report fewer DUI behaviors than their U.S.-born counterparts.

This article talks about the effort that was made by the United States to combat drunk
driving. The article state few methods that were made to reduce the population risk from
offenders who drive under the influence of alcohol. To begin with, the efforts to combat drunk
driving in the United States began with specifics deterrence strategies to punish convicted drunk
drivers such as license revocation for drivers who fail a blood alcohol test or they refuse to take
one; that was a success which change the public attitude and made them view it as a serious
public danger. Other method that had a big impact in the society was sobriety checkpoint its
when the police roadblocks set up to check for drivers who have been drinking. The checkpoints
serve two purposes to apprehend impaired drivers and to increase the perceived risk of
apprehension by those who might decide to drive after drinking. United States tried to prohibit
alcohol use, but it failed, for the continued demand of alcohol products and the underground
economy that developed to supply them. In the other hand, USA implements the increased
alcohol taxes as a potential strategy for reducing alcohol related problems. The article also
describe how was introduced the responsible beverage service which is a program that have three
goal; to prevent alcohol service to minors, to reduce the likelihood of drinkers becoming
intoxicated, and to prevent those who are impaired from driving. This method creates a positive
social outing and benefits from decreasing alcohol problems.

Drunk Driving book is a good source for my research because it explain all the law that have been
made because of those who have driving under the influence of alcohol. It explains how the alcohol
affects the person who is driving and the effects it has. What I most like about this book was that it
present real histories of people who have been suffer from driving under the influence of alcohol and how
they life change. The book state method and technique has been made to prevent this global problem. In
addition, Statistics show how this issue has been stop during the years and is good to know those people
who care about this problem save millions of life and prevented this global issue to keep affecting
innocents lives.

With Arrests For Driving Under The Influence Of Allcohol. Alcoholism, Clinical And Experimental
Research 35.11 (2011): 1985-1993. MEDLINE with Full Text. Beb. 24 June 2014.

This article describes the functioning of alcohol use disorder criteria among men and women with
arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Individuals arrested under the influence of alcohol
represent a significant risk to public health. In the United States, several states are concerned about this
issue of driving under the influence of alcohol; they are trying to require screening DUI arrestees to
determine recidivism risk and the need for treatment based on severity of alcohol problems. The article
explains how the accuracy of screening instruments used in this population has been questioned, for their
ability to detect alcohol problems in individual with DIU. In addition, testing the measurement
characteristics DSM criteria in individuals with histories of DUI suggest that female offenders have more
severe alcohol problems than male offenders. Furthermore this article talks about a study they made about
observing 3 criteria related to DUI status. The criteria are social/ interpersonal problem, larger/ longer,
and inability/persistent desire to quit, it indicate they were better at discriminating alcohol problems
severity in individual with DUI status, women had a higher threshold than man for time spend drinking or
recovering and women without DUI had a higher threshold problems. Taking this as a whole it show the
criteria yielded similar amounts of information in all groups; the result show that DSM of criteria for
alcohol abuse and dependence adequately detect alcohol problems severity in individual with DIU, and
some are better at defecting severity in this particularly high risk group than individual without DUI.
However, this present that the criteria as a whole are equally effective in measuring problems severity
among individuals, and it may be used with confidence in screening DUI offenders.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is website that is very concerned about the issue of driving under
the influence of alcohol. This website was created for a mother who lose her daughter in a car accident
because of a drunk driving. The website is relevant to my research, for it have many sources that show
how to prevent these fatal tragedies. MADD has grown into one of the nations most widely respected
non-profit organizations, with experts available to media for questions about Drunk Driving, Underage
Drinking and Victim Services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The website goal is to prevent and do
everything in their power to keep teens healthy and safe from alcohol. Mothers Against Drunk Driving
