Greetings All My name is Anna Scheepers and at the moment I am the Interim Coordinator at the Community Centre. I am sure that some of you may remember me from about two years ago when I was the Coordinator at the Centre and for the time being, while Ceris is on sick leave, I am taking care of the Centre. It has been quite a busy term all round at the Centre. In our Community Garden we have been clearing out the last of our summer produce and have made our preparations for the slower winter months. All of our garden beds have been prepared and we have a few winter crops that are looking very good. Roll on Spring we are looking forward to another bumper year in the garden! Our Community Lunches have also picked up and we are doing our very best to ensure that our meals are not only tasty, but nutritious as well. We have added a few more computer classes to our program and look forward to helping you with your computer questions. Please keep in mind that we are always looking for ideas old or new to ensure that we have a variety of programs available for participants at the Centre so if you want to learn about something or if you want to share or teach something, let us know I am sure that if we put our heads together we will be able to make our program even more interesting. Looking forward to seeing you at the Centre. If you have any queries, or if I may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Anna Scheepers Interim Coordinator
Service Excellence The Murray Bridge Community Centre is committed to excellence. It is now following the road map to an excellent organisation as outlined by the Australian Service Excellence Standards. Sound planning, governance, and management are the foundations. These support healthy connections between people, and underpin the delivery of activities for self- development. One of the core values of the Centre is Freedom of Choice. Individuals are free to choose their level of participation at the Centre, e.g. have lunch on Mondays, volunteer in the office, garden or kitchen, participate in a course or training, teach a course, enjoy time in the garden, have a cuppa, read the paper, obtain information, gain help with tax, have a chat, like us on Facebook.
Our VISION is A welcoming Centre for all individuals, valued and used by our community to enhance wellbeing and quality of life. New Rainwater Tank Last month, MBCCI gardening volunteers received a brand new 5000 litre rainwater tank, bought through Pro Poly Tanks. The team worked very hard digging out the space for the tank to go. A few grunts and groans were heard from afar whilst the lads were putting the tank into its new home!!! The volunteers connected the tank to the gutters, and is now filled to the brim with all the rain we have been getting. This precious water will be used to maintain the gardens during the hot summer months.

ACCORDING to Murray Bridge Community Centre Interim Coordinator Anna Scheepers, Australians are indebted to all volunteers. This whole country is run by volunteers, wed be lost without them, Mrs Scheepers said. And she would knowat the community centre, about 35 volunteers offer their service to run programs for pensioners, vulnerable people and those who just want to learn. She said the centre was fortunate to have a few new volunteers, but there was always a shortage. Any not-for-profit organisation is delighted to have new volunteers, she said. Very often, the good ones come to volunteer and go to on to get jobs. Its a compliment for us, but it leaves us in a pickle. She encouraged people who were considering volunteering to jump in and have a go. If anybody has a couple of hours a week to spare, consider who you give your time to youll not only help the organisation, but yourself, she said. Mrs Scheepers said volunteering built the confidence of people who may not have paid work. Even though you cant get a paid job, you do have worth and there are people who appreciate what you do and who you are, she said. She said some of the programs encouraged healthy living, while other programs helped disadvantaged people. We have a volunteer cook who does a community lunch anyone can come in for a two-course meal for $5, she said. We use produce from our community garden which is, of course, run and looked after by volunteers. We have another group who volunteer and go out and mow lawns for pensioners and people who have health care cards. She said the attitudes of the volunteers make working much better. They are willing to share their time and expertise with the rest of the community, thats something the community cant live without, she said. The atmosphere and vibe is entirely dependent on the volunteers. Volunteer Receptionist Vivian Smith, who has only recently started at the centre, agreed. Ive never seen a grumpy face walk through the door, she said. You can see on peoples faces, the happiness and ease from us volunteers.
