Come Again Cardigan

Difficulty: Advanced

Materials: (7 skeins) Naturally Caron.com Country, 75 Acrylic, 25
Merino Wool, 185 yds, 170 m, color 0019 Vicuna, Crochet hooks, F (3.75),
G (4.0), and H (5.0), six buttons, stitch markers, yarn needle

Size: 44 Bust

Gauge: 3 1/2 shells 4 and 7 rows 4 using the H hook.

Notes: Turning Chain (tc) counts as a stitch throughout. The waist shaping
is done by working several rows in progressively smaller hooks. When you
work the Ironts, you will only be using the smaller hooks on half of each
row so that the Iront edges remain straight.

Special Stitches: Shell (2dc, 2 ch, 2 dc) into next ch 2 sp



Pattern: Ch 3, dc into next dc. *( 2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc ) into next ch 2 sp **
Repeat Irom * to ** to last dc and tc. Dc in last dc, dc into top oI tc, turn.

Row 19-25: Switch to H hook. Work in pattern.

Shape Armhole

Row 1: Sl st across (2 dc, 2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc, 2 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc--13 sts). Ch 3,
dc into next dc. ( 2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc ) into each ch 2 sp across until you get to
the 2nd shell Irom the end. Dc into ea oI next 2 dc, turn. (12 shells and 2 dc
on each end)

Row 2: Ch 3, ( 2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc ) into each ch 2 sp across, dc into tc, turn.
(12 shells and 1 dc on ea end)

Row 3: Ch 3, ( 1 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc ) into 1st ch 2 sp. Continue to work in
pattern to last shell. (2 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into last ch 2 sp, dc into tc. Turn.

Row 4: Repeat row 3.

Row 5: Ch 3, 2 dc into 1

Shape Neck

Left Front

Ch 50, dc into 3rd ch Irom hook, sk 4 ch, *(2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc ) into next ch, sk
4 ch ** Repeat Irom * to ** to last 2 ch. Dc into ea oI last 2 ch. Turn. ( 8
shells and 2 dc on ea end) Mark this side as the right side (RS)

Row 2-9: Work even in pattern.



Note: When you are doing the waist shaping Ior the Ironts, you will be
working the 4 shells at the side seam with the smaller hook but will then
work the 4 shells near the center front with hook H. This is so that the
Iront edges oI the cardigan remain straight.

Row 10: Switch to G hook , ch 3, dc into next dc, shell into ea oI next
Iour ch 2 sps, switch to H, shell into ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc into ea oI
last 2 sts. Turn. Mark this edge as the center Iront edge. You will always
use the H hook on this side.

Row 11: With H, ch 3, dc into next dc, shell into ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps,
switch to G hook, shell into ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc into ea oI last 2 sts.
Turn.

Row 12: With G hook , ch 3, dc into next dc, shell into ea oI next Iour ch
2 sps, switch to H, shell into ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc into ea oI last 2 sts.
Turn.

Row 13: With H, ch 3, dc into next dc, shell into ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps,
switch to F hook, shell into ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc into ea oI last 2 sts.
Turn.

Row 14: With F, ch 3, dc into next dc, shell into ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps,

Shape Armhole

Row 3: Ch 3, (2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc ) in next ch 2 sp, work in pattern to end oI
row, turn.

Row 4: Work in pattern to last ch 2 sp, ( 2 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc ) into last ch 2 sp,
dc into top oI tc, turn.

Shape Neck (while still shaping armhole)

Row 1: Ch 3, 2 dc into ch 2 sp, (2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc ) into ea oI next two ch 2
sps, dc into ea oI next 2 sts, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked. (2 shells,
2 dc at neck edge and 3 dc at armhole edge)

Row 2: Ch 3, work in pattern to last 3 sts, dc into ea oI last 3 sts, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, dc into next 2 dc, work in pattern to end oI row. Turn.

Row 4-9: Repeat rows 2 and 3 consecutively. Fasten oII.

Right Front

Work like leIt Iront to waist shaping ( 9 rows).



Shape Waist




Row 10: With H, ch 3, dc in next dc, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps,
switch to G, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc in ea oI last 2 sts, turn.

Row 11: With G, ch 3, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, switch to H, shell
in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc in ea oI last 2 sts. Turn.

Row 12: Repeat row 10.

Row 13: With F, ch 3, dc in next dc, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps,
switch to H, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc in ea oI last 2 sts. Turn.

Row 14: With H, ch 3, dc in next dc, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps ,
switch to F, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc in ea oI last 2 sts. Turn.

Row 15: Repeat row 13.

Row 16: With H, ch 3, dc in next dc, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps,
switch to G, shell in ea oI next Iour ch 2 sps, dc in ea oI last 2 sts, turn.

Row 17: Repeat row 11.

Row 18: Repeat row 16.

Row 19-25: With H, work even in pattern.

Shape Armhole

Row 1: With H, work even in pattern to last two shells. Dc into ea oI next
2 dc, leaving remaining sts unworked. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, shell in next ch 2 sp. Work even in pattern to end oI row.

Row 3: Work in pattern to the last ch 2 sp. Shell in last ch 2 sp. Dc in next
st, turn.

Shape Neck

Assembly

Weave in all tails. Placing right sides against each other, whip atitch
shoulder seams oI back to Ironts. With right sides together, whip stitch
sleeves to back and Ironts oI cardi. With right sides together, whip stitch
side seams and sleeve seams.

Edging

With H, attach yarn on wrong side(WS) oI right Iront at hem with a sl st. Ch
1, hdc into same st. Working along starting ch, hdc into next ch, *hdc into
next 4 ch sp, hdc into middle stitch oI shell above 4 ch sp ( you will be
pulling this stitch down so it is level with your work. This eliminates
the gaping holes along the hem area that were a result of the ch 4 you
had to make to get the shell pattern.) Hdc into same 4 ch sp, hdc into next
ch (where the shell is worked)** Repeat Irom * to ** around to side seam.
Work 1 hdc in side seam. Continue around hem to leIt Iront corner. Turn.



Rows 2-4: Ch 1, hdc into ea st around. Fasten oII at end oI row 4.


You can see how I reached up to hdc into the middle stitch oI the chain 4 in the starting
chain so that the gaps would be Iilled in


Neck

With H, attach yarn with a sl st on RS corner oI right Iront neck edge. Ch 1,
hdc into same st, hdc into ea st to corner. Work 2 hdc tog in corner, work
along ends oI rows at neck, making sure that your work lies Ilat. You may
have to sk a couple oI sts to ensure a rounded neck. Work 2 hdc tog at
shoulder seam, work along back, making a hdc 2tog (2X) along back. Work
an hdc 2tog at shoulder seam, continue to work the leIt side as you did the
right to Iront corner. Turn.

Rows 2-3 Ch 1, hdc into ea st, working an hdc 2tog at ea corner and ea
shoulder seam. Fasten oII at the end oI row 3.

Front Edges

With H, attach yarn with a sl st on RS oI ea Iront and work 3 rows oI hdc


along Ironts to total 68 sts. I worked 2 hdc into ea ch 3 at ea end oI row and
5 hdc along edge oI top and bottom bands. Fasten oII.

Sleeve Trim

With H, attach yarn with a sl st at underarm seam, ch 1, hdc into same st,
work hdc around sleeve edge as Ior bottom edge oI cardigan to 1st st. Join
with a sl st, turn.

Ro 2-3: Ch 1, hdc into ea st around to last st, join with a sl st. Fasten oII at
end oI ro 3.

Finishing

Weave in all tails, sew buttons evenly spaced to leIt Iront band. The spaces
between stitches on the right Iront band will work as buttonholes. Block
lightly iI desired.
