ESV Hebrews 2:9-10 & Hebrews 5:7-9

But we see Him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory
and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
For it was fitting that He for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory,
should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.
In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able
to save Him from death, and He was heard because of his reverence. Although He was a son, He learned obedience
through what He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.
NASB John 16:20-22
before His cross, Jesus encouragement about joy
you will weep
..
you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy. Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because
her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a
child has been born into the world. Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice

Matthew 26:36-41
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, Sit here while I go over there and pray.
And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. Then He said to them,
My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me. And He went a little beyond them,
and fell on His face and prayed, saying My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.
He came to the disciples, found them sleeping, and said to Peter, So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour?
Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Luke 22:43-46
an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat
became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found
them sleeping from sorrow and said to them Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation
Matthew 27:29-30, 45-46
after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before
Him and mocked Him saying Hail King of the Jews! They spat on Him and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head.
Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out
with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?

Luke 23:45-46

sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said,

Isaiah 53:3-5
He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide
their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried;
yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for or iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.
Luke 24:26
Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?

Hebrews 12:2 & Hebrews 5:19-20
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,
where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever

John 15:11-13 & John 14:26-27
Jesus comforts disciples before cross
These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. This is My
commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has

ESV Romans 6:19-20
Jesus gave His love, glory, joyous hope - Spirit of endurance
Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope
of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because
God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
