Surya = Virtue; Rahu = Vice
Surya = the direct rays of the Sun; Rahu =

Surya = self-righteousness; Rahu = self-promotion

Rahu and Surya are dire enemies. Expect contradiction,
complexity , and confusion in the behavior of the native
whose personality combines virtuous Surya = pure
brilliant hot direct light + vicious Rahu = dark, smoky,
and surreptitious .
The native 's desire to have center-stage attention
(Surya) is much amplified (Rahu).
likely to be absolutely self-righteously self-
confident whether the principles of one's action
are in terms of social morality right or wrong
The person has a brilliant ego-bright side and a
murky, ego-eclipsed dark side
the normal development of father-son and guru-
sisya relationship = amplified and often
interrupted
for example,
Thomas Jefferson helped frame the USA
Constitution on the basis of Self-Evident (Surya)
principles of the fundamental rights and freedoms
of all human beings. His positive impact on the
History of western civilization is undeniable and
his ability to express the Enlightenment (Surya).
Philosophy of his age in terms of practical
government actions was a stroke of pure genius
(Surya). He also carried on a nearly lifelong affair
with an African household slave named Sally.
The affair began when Sally was a 16-year-old
companion to Jefferson's daughter by his legal
wife. It continued for decades; Sally bore him
seven children. The Rahu piece-de-la-resistance is
that on his death bed when he could have
emancipated Sally guaranteeing her and her
descendants freedom from slavery in perpetuity,
he did not free her.
However, there is something " on the edge of the aura"
outside the realm of the Light, which is untoward,
something illicit (Rahu), something obscured or not quite
straightforward that seems to contradict or confuse the
purity of the public presentation (Surya).
here is something dark and seductive in the background.
It can be a taboo personal relationship, a sneaky way of
gaining power, or an obsession of some kind. As the
karaka of desire, Rahu in conjunction with Ravi
classically produces some variety of occult sexual
behavior: something important to the native's identity,
which is culturally prohibited, and which must persist in
the shadows.
Behind the blinding great light of Surya the taboo-
breaking behavior may not be detected and the native
may contribute highly positive role-modeling energy in
public settings.
However do look for something dark, something
undercover, something unpublished but desire-driven, at
the outer edge of Surya's magnificent aura.
Examples = "I t's Complicated":
At a time when male homosexuality was prohibited
by a strong social taboo in both East and West,
the much beloved and popular American spiritual
teacher, Baba Ram Dass was secretly practicing a
promiscuous gay male lifestyle. Until 'coming
out' in the 1980's, Ram Dass represented his
unmarried state as 'celibate', claiming that all of
his desires had been transformed into spiritual
adoration toward his magnificent male Guru. In
fact, for decades, he was meeting men in
alleyways and dark rooms pursuing surreptitious
(Rahu) sex. He estimated the number of
encounters as "hundreds or more".
A great exponent of the eighteenth century
European philosophical Enlightenment, Thomas
Jefferson was a brilliant man, who played an
enormously influential role in shaping the new
republic of the United States of America. In
particular, Jefferson is associated with the
glorious phrase "all men are created equal". Like
most of the wealthy colonial planters of his day,
Jefferson owned dozens of African slaves who
maintained his elegant household, his horses, and
his tobacco fields. After his wife's death,
Jefferson started a long, passionate relationship
with a 16-year-old slave named Sally Hemings,
who bore him seven children. However even on
his deathbed, Jefferson did not emancipate Sally.
Karl Marx, a great philosopher of political (Surya)
and social economy, gave powerful voice to the
19th century Euro-American struggle against
social class-oppression and the exploitation of
workers. While maintaining a bourgeois
household in London, with his wife and six
children, Marx fathered an additional child during
a long-running relationship with his housekeeper.
The child was incorporated into family life but
the mother continued in servitude, and she
received no inheritance upon Marx's death.
Exaggeration and amplification of the Father and the
Ego-personality.
The native wishes to shine brilliantly.
One wishes to be recognized as a genius in every
undertaking.
One will take risks (Rahu) and break taboos
(Rahu) in order to achieve praise and express
political intelligence (Surya).

Due to Rahu's ability to cast drishti upon the bhava 5-7- from
His radical place, Rahu drishti to Surya is quite
commonplace.
Nevertheless the drishti of Ravi's bitter enemy Rahu upon
Ravi indicates an ego-development disorder (Rahu) of some
variety. It need not be severe but it will be present.
Severe father-fact-inflation generally occurs when
Surya accepts a double drishti of both Rahu and
Guru.
(That somewhat rare combo could be a recipe for a
genuine narcissistic personality disorder as the person
simply cannot comprehend any boundaries upon their
personal excellence.)
The normal, factual relationship with the father and father-
figures (Surya) is disturbed (Rahu). Often the father has
some type of socially inappropriate (Rahu) desire-driven
behavior such as addiction, crime, promiscuity, or a general
lack of resistance to opportunity for self-promotion. At
minimum the father suffers from self-glorification and
boasting.
The interrupted (Rahu) development undergoes a
spin-doctor "cover-up" (Rahu, eclipse) in the native's
self-narrative.
Often the role of the father or father-figure is romanticized
into some brilliant (Ravi) personality that is rather more
godlike or royalized (Surya) than the facts would, upon
inspection, scientifically (Shani) support.
The male native carries this inflated-ego entitlement
into his own life.
The female native may cover up her knowledge of the
moral shortcomings of her father with tales of his
bravery, courage, or intelligence. She may attract
bosses and male authority figures with the same
interrupted-ego-development dysfunctions displayed
by her father.

key words describing the native's ability to make
emotional commitments.
The mother is an extreme person: passionate, sensitive,
and significantly lacking emotional boundaries. The
mother may have been emotionally invasive, a hyper-

emotional character depending on Soma's rashi.

Rahu Drishti to
Chandra
Due to Rahu's ability to cast drishti upon the bhava 5-7- from
His radical place, Rahu drishti to Chandra is quite
commonplace.
Nevertheless the drishti of Rahu upon Chandra indicates an
emotional-development disorder (Rahu) of some variety. It
need not be severe but it will be present. Some disruption
(Rahu) of the flow of mother-nurturing protection generally
occurs when Chandra accepts a drishti of Rahu.
The normal, grounded and supporting, protective and
sheltering relationship with the mother and mother-
figures (Chandra) is disturbed (Rahu).
Furthermore, the childhood home is destabilized due to the
mother's exotic (unconventional) behavior, and there may be
interruption of the normal security derived from organic
development of the childhood relationships due to movement
away from the place of birth. The most typical expression is
that mother accepts professional duties outside the home
while the children are still developing. Whichever bhava is
owned by Chandra will show the unusual behavior of the
mother.
For example,
In the case of Thula lagna the mother may be called
away from child-nurturing by a distinguished
professional career because Chandra = L-10; yet in
the case of Kumbha lagna the mother often has a
deep illness or consequences of exploitation, due to
Chandra = L-6.
Often the mother has some type of emotionally unstable
(Rahu) desire behavior such as emotionally-driven need for
self-promotion, possibly careerism which takes the mother
out of the home (Chandra) and promotes one into the public
view via career responsibilities; or addiction, crime,
promiscuity, or other disruptions of the mother's dedication
and attention to the well-being of the child.
The interrupted (Rahu) development undergoes a spin-doctor
"cover-up" (Rahu, eclipse) in the native's self-narrative.
Often the role of the mother or mother-figure is amplified
into some saintly or exotic persona that is a super-mother.
The female native carries this inflated-nurturer-healer
expectation into her own life, where she may easily
pursue the psychically disabling role of "out of
control healer" .
The male native may cover up his knowledge of the
emotional shortcomings of his mother with tales of
her great sensitivity, care-taking, and parental
concern. He may attract wives and female care-takers
with the same interrupted-emotional-development
dysfunctions displayed by the mother.

Examples
Rush Limbaugh is equally famous for promoting
taboo beliefs, particularly those which challenge
dominant social ideologies (Guru in Kumbha). He
is however able to attract mass followings
(Kumbha) to his rigid and negative (Shani)
futuristic vision. Guru + Rahu in domain-2 =
mouth, speech, knowledge, history.
Woodrow Wilson was a great humanist - the only
USA president to have earned a Ph.D. He
espoused the formation of the United Nations. In
Wilson's day, the conservative politicians were
aggressively opposed to his visionary universalist

Madonna's exotic child-generating exploits are well

other-caste partner, the second child also born
before marriage, and the third child of a
dramatically different racial-cultural profile
adopted just before her divorce. Further, she is

actions are not popular; she is broadly seen as
"interfering".

Marriage and the female partner(s)
A married man with Shukra + Rahu tends to marry
impulsively.
He is intensely attracted to women of extraordinary
or exotic beauty, foreign or culturally diverse
women, or possibly (if Shukra is of low nature)
women of underclass or service class status (
homas Jefferson) .
His first marriage is likely to be unstable due to his
unsettled desire nature.
Yet if Shukra occupies a rashi of Shani or receives
drishti of Shani the marriage may be quite stable
despite the magnetic attractiveness of the
beautiful wife.
The male native is ypically oft-married, but not
unhappy.
A female nativity with Rahu + Shukra suggests that the
woman possesses a magnetic beauty which is all but
irresistible to most men.
She may become so overwhelmed by the cloying
attentions of men that indeed she learns to prefer
the gentler attentions of women.
Exotic relationships with other women is one of the
results of Rahu + Shukra in a female nativity.
If Shukra = uchcha and in kendra like the actress-
models Jennifer Aniston, and Elizabeth Taylor,
the public is enormously attracted to the visual
pleasure provided by the native's balanced-
design but exotic facial attributes (hair, face,
mouth, eyes, nose, jaws etc.) and other feminine
traits which suggest sensual pleasures.

Pleasuring genitalia
In the physical body, Shukra energizes the pleasure-
producing "external" sexual organs (not the "interior
sexual parts such as uterus or prostate, but rather the
luxuriously nerve-rich external genitalia.
Rahu + Shukra may indicate an amplification Of the
external sexual organs (Shukra, Thula).
In males, there is some magnification of the size or
other quality of the penis or testicles.
In females, there is some magnification of the size
or other quality of the clitoris or vulva.
Wealth
Rahu's job is to break boundaries and have adventures.
Rahu + Shukra = Wealth is generally increased;
although much depends on the disposition of
Shukra.
Ultimate Permission
A longing for completed union with the object of
attraction will quickly and repeatedly be satisfied, unless
some resistance such as from Shani might interfere with
access to pleasure.
Rahu + Shukra frequently indicates a "lost"
incarnation in which the native is so fascinated by
the teacher of the demons and the Devapati's
seductive illusions, that spiritual development is
completely stalled.
Rahu grants an absolute, no-boundaries permission
to enjoy every kind of wealth, beauty, and
pleasure in this life.
Wild abandon, recklessly sweet
The native may ignore the commonplace advice: that for
a rich man to carry his wealth into heaven is slightly less
easy than getting a camel through the eye of a needle. In
other words, this yoga may generate a terrible
materialistic trick. (E.g., when it results in substance
addiction.)
Neither Rahu nor Shukra can light the path toward
lasting happiness.
Happiness in relationships, the karaka
empowerment of Shukra, is damaged because
Rahu destabilizes the native's ability to place the
spouse's interests on an equal footing with one's
own.
The native wants more, more, more Of the ype of
pleasure indicated by Shukra's bhava, rashi etc.
Despite the longer-term negative prognosis for
stability in interpersonal relationships and balance
of the Appetites of the physical body , victims
of Rahu + Shukra do enjoy the indulgence of
wantonness at a sensual level : )

Female relationships
The female may find that her beauty becomes an obstacle
to stable and harmonious relationships: every man wants
her (and many women too). It is difficult for average-
looking women to form friendships with exceptionally
beautiful women; thus the female native may suffer a
lack of companionship in the world of her own gender.
She is forced (nearly) to receive endless adulation from
men; yet women may dislike her excessive materialism.
In early life she may suffer from an exaggerated
(Rahu) sense of her own attractiveness (Shukra)
or lack thereof (neechcha Shukra, Eleanor
Roosevelt).
As her magnetic attraction begins to fade, if she has
attained wealth through her beauty (and unless
Shukra is damaged, she generally has done that)
then commercial opportunities in the beauty and
luxury business will yield good fruits ( Elizabeth
Taylor).

Psychology and Surreptitious action:
The native is "covering" for someone or
something. Using Shani's lawfulness to provide
an alibi for Rahu's lawless pursuit of desire. Rahu
tends to obtain His goals illegally or illicitly.
Therefore the tension can be severe when law-
abiding Shani is forced to accommodate law-

combination during very extreme periods such as
Shani-Rahu.

Another case concerns the elderly relative of a
client. It is an interesting phenomenon because
the Shani-Rahu theme proliferates throughout her
extended family.
The Shani-Rahu nativity belongs to her great-
grandfather.
o In the late 19th century, this earnest young
man had entered a Roman Catholic
seminary to prepare to take sacred vows of
ritual priesthood. The only son of a devout
mother, he had promised to fulfill her
pious wish to have her beloved son
become priest.
o In the Franco-German culture of his day, the
most important and bitterly argued
cultural wars were fought at the boundary
Florence
Nightingale
between the two Christian sects of Roman
Catholicism and Lutheranism, each of
which considered the other to be an
insidious, demonic apostasy.
o In his third year of priestly studies and
having already taken the holy vow of
celibacy, the young Catholic priest fell in
love with a raven-haired (Rahu) Lutheran
girl from a lower social class. They were
secretly married which caused a great
scandal. However his family was
conservative (Shani) and wealthy so the
scandal was "covered up" (Shani + Rahu).
o masked (Rahu) in falsified tales. Eventually
she suffered psychotic episodes so violent
that her husband and children lived in fear
of her outbursts. When raging, she cursed
the religion . Yet between episodes she
displayed an exemplary strict and hard-
working religious piety, attending services
and serving charities. Like most victims of
Borderline Personality Disorder, she
terrorized her children but her public
reputation was excellent.
o Her husband had developed a prominent
business and he felt he could not afford
the scandal of divorce. Despite the fact
that doctors wanted to institutionalize her,
*to maintain respectability, the husband
continued to cover for her* - against his
faith, against his family, and ultimately
against medical advice. Because he
refused to separate from her, his own
mother disinherited him, and ultimately he
lost his fortune. He died a broken man.

The exotic element (a person, idea, commodity,
or power) Although surrounded and apparently
controlled by a rigid and orderly structure,
resists assimilation in an indirect, surreptitious,
subtly invasive way that expresses lawfulness on
the outside but a passionate undermining of the
system on the inside.
Shani and Rahu are locked in a battle for control
which slowly exhausts all of Shani's scarce
resources.
o Shani generally represents the conventional
social order of the native's own people.
o Rahu generally represents a person (most
often) or idea or commodity or
empowerment which is exotic, foreign, of
outside origin, and characteristically
incommensurable "apples and oranges"
with the measurements of the accepted
system.
o Shani is persistent, tenacious and focused on
Safety while trying to get the Rahu agent
to behave according to the Accepted
cultural norms.
o The Rahu agent pretends to accept the
policies, protocols, and procedures which
Shani prefers.
o Rahu uses subterfuge and works within the
system, mimicking lawful behaviors while
covertly carrying out Rahu's own agenda.
o In the case of Rahu + Shani, Rahu does not
use direct attack. Rahu says, "Yes, I will
follow the rules." The native trains,
instructs, cajoles, and explains so that the
Rahu agent will understand, accept, and
operate by the rules. Then, while
continuing to verbally agree with Shani's
claims, Rahu slowly and perversely
breaks all the rules.
Often the Shani-Rahu pair is associated with
troubles of
o inability to assimilate to a new culture after
international immigration,
o culture gap in intercultural or
intergenerational marriage,
o religious conversion (especially for
marriage purposes),
o culture gap of first world-third-world
relationships,
o "underground" resistance movements in
lands governed under military occupation
o Other settings in which some agency of
culturally inappropriate outsider-ness
(Rahu) will bond with agent of the
established social order (Shani). The Rahu
agent A ppears to have conformed to the
mainstream behaviors but is in truth a
slow but steady saboteur Of the
conventional system.
Similar to the way in which Rahu affects Surya
(above), Rahu creates a
provocative, dark and smoky shadow around the
edges of Shani's aura.
o Unlike the pure and brilliant light of the
Sun, the emanation of Lord Shani is by
nature dark like Rahu.
o Like an oil stain on a dark cloth, it is not so
easy to see the contrast. Rahu "hides" in
Shani's time-fixed darkness. Yet Rahu is
demonically present, and that oil will
eventually destroy the weave of the fibers
which holds together the cloth, causing
complete collapse of system integrity.
o In the case of Rahu + Surya, when Rahu is
empowered, His smoke obscures the Sun's
light.
In the case of Rahu + Shani, Rahu
tends to lurk within the broader
structures, appearing to adhere to
Shani's rules but in truth Rahu is
subtly destabilizing all matters of
structure and principle.
Description
Shani has sharply defined edges;
whereas Rahu is shape-shifting
and indistinct.
Shani = fixed dry neutral material
such as stone, bones, sand, paper,
and wood. Shani's gross, hard, dry
substances offer many interstitial
spaces and surfaces into and upon
which Rahu's smoke may lay and
penetrate.
Rahuvian smoke can hide in the
spaces between Shani's
architectural elements = bones.
Shani rules pillars, precepts,
frames, rafters -- whatever
principles may form the structural
boundaries and rules of one's life.
Rahu's smoky Disguise
Unlike Surya whose clear hot light
can be blocked by Rahuvian
smoke, Lord Shani does not suffer
from damage to Radiance.
Shani's purpose is also
thwarted by His enemy
Rahu, but in a different
way.
When yuti Shani, Rahu's dark
desires can be easily disguised by
Shani's also-dark consciousness.
It is true that Shani can find a sattvic
expression esp when Shanaicarya
enjoys an uchcha state. Yet more
often, Shani indicates a tamasic
stubborn ignorance which requires
a great many repetitions of karmic
experience before Shani's
potentially sattvic calm and
neutrality can manifest.
Rahu's passions are nearly always
tamasic in nature and thus Rahu
can "match" Shani's psychic
energy and hide behind Shani's
often unconscious, karmic rigidity.
Rahu can literally "adhere" to
Shani's laws, amplifying
lawfulness to a higher degree,
giving the appearance of strict
austerity and conformity to the
social order.
Slipperiness
Rahu's interference with Shani
results in slipperiness and subtle
degradation of Shani's hard, dry
properties. It is as if one had to
climb wooden steps were coated in
a layer of brownish oil, or one
were trying to build a house using
oily stones that slipped out of
place.
With Rahu, Shani's ability to hold a
steady, reliable structure is
disturbed.
Unsafe at any speed
The Rahu + Shani native appears to
be a pious and well-governed
individual who works (Shani) for
the good of the collective (Shani).
One's behavior is often exemplary
in moral matters since Rahu
amplifies Shani's mandate to
conform for safety purposes, and
to apply one's work effort toward
strengthening cohesion of the
social structure.
On closer inspection however it will
be found that the native (or the
agent who is represented by the
house occupied by Shani + Rahu)
is a rather demonic risk-taker
whose actions under cover of
piety is quite unconcerned with the
rule of law.
Rahu can derange Shani's actions so
that the native becomes
incoherent (literally, "not
sticking")
Rahu-Shani = surreptitious, non-
conforming, but hard-working exotics
One tends to become involved with
foreigners or outsiders, some
exotic ideas or persons, then
attempt
To bring these outsiders into
conformance with Shani's
standardized behaviors of one's
people.
The outsider then slowly erodes
Shani's safety, to the point of even
threatening the native's material
survival. Like the oil stain on the
dark cloth, Rahu outwardly
conforms but inwardly disturbs
and deranges Shani's order.
The natives choice to bond with an
un-safe outsider is particularly
risky during periods of Rahu
The consequences may harm the
continuity of traditions or the
survival-safety of one's group.
The native may suffer karmic
expense in covering up Rahu's
illicit actions or subsidizing Rahu's
unsafe adventures. Rahu
squanders scarce resources
(Shani).
Actions, decisions, choices which
are framed as being in the best
interest of the social order -
promoted as stablizing choices for
the family, the community, the
profession, the government - are
desire-driven and ultimately
degrade the integrity of the group
safety.
Disruption of steadiness in the personal
habits
Psychologically, Rahu's disruptive
effect upon Shani results in
damage to material endeavors
which require steady and persistent
concentration of attention, over
time.
The native may wish to follow a set
of prescribed rules or procedures,
such as a food diet (2), savings
programme (2), earnings (11),
religious ritual (9) or marital
alliance (7).
However Rahu will voice an internal
interrupter which breaks the
internal narrative and causes the
native to lose concentration ,
shifting the focus of attention on to
something different.
Rahu rather makes Shani's material less
clean, less touchable -- as if the walls
inside a room would be covered with a
film of smoke, or as if greasy film from a
burnt corpse lay upon the stone platform
of the riverside ghat.
The opposite of Ravi's high-noon bright
sunlight, Shani is dark blue and dark
purple, nearly black, the color of the
midnight sky. Rahu is the color of smoky
brown amber; He looks like the smoke
from a burning ghat or the oily brownish
haze of industrial smog.
The Naga king does not disgrace Shani,
who is already a base commoner and who
is hardly trying to be bright or heroic.
Rather, Rahu becomes an agent of
sabotage toward Shani's attempt to order
and regulate the native's environment. The
native may believe or declare that one is
following a set of precepts or principles;
yet Rahu interrupts the austerities, disturbs
the
A famous Jyotisha combination for severe
anxiety resulting in contradictory
behavior. The native's personality is a
wellspring of constant contradiction.
Shani pushes always toward
conservative, dispassionate
personal behaviors based on
strictly regulated social
hierarchy and fear-driven
conformity, with a characteristic
emphasis on work ethic and
material survival.
Rahu's signal is completely the
opposite. Rahu wants the thrill of
adventure, wild risk, and
specifically the breakage of
customary social barriers that
block Rahu's pursuit of His
passionate desires.
T he final outcome depends entirely on the
bhava, rashi, and incoming drishti.
However this is a very challenging yoga .
Results are easier if this negative
combination occurs in negative
bhava = dushthamsha (6, 8, 12;
Ronald Reagan) .
The socially negative effects of
contradiction and anxiety are more
difficult to control in the kendra
houses which are the pillars of
social identity (1, 4, 7, 10 -
Jennifer Aniston).
In house-1, the native fights a
lifelong battle for self-justification.
The native tends not toward the criminally
illegal, but rather toward the socially
illicit.
In a psychologically anxious pattern
(typically activated by periods of Shani +
Rahu, and also by the agency of the
person associated with the house in which
the Shani + Rahu combination exists) the
native is prone toward passionate actions
and decisions which contradict the
existing social code.
E.g., the agency of the marriage
partner much exacerbates the
social conflict inherent in the yoga
for Jennifer Aniston, who has
Shani + Rahu in domain-7.
For Lisa Marie Presley Shani +
Rahu yoga occurs in domain-9;
thus the agent is her father.
For Katie Holmes Shani + Rahu
yoga occurs in domain-2; agency =
family history, financial bankers,
and potentially the second
marriage-partner as well.
One may be blamed for "breaking the
customary law "(Shani) through one's own
socially-unapproved desires (Rahu). The
native may be perceived as lacking moral
character , often the result of saying one
thing and doing another. Typically one
proclaims the intent to conform to
conventional expectation (Shani) yet
undermines that conformance with some
variety of deviant activity.
One will ake risks (Rahu) and break
taboos (Rahu) in order to develop regular
work habits and stability for the
common man , and serve as an agent of
socially conservative law and order
(Guru).
One is blamed overtly or covertly for
many infractions and considered failure in
meeting social expectations; or criticized
for having obtained one's position illicitly.
There may or may not be even the
slightest factual basis for the accusations.
Nevertheless it is a recurring pattern, and
unless there is compensation from another
excellent graha, the native may feel driven
into insanity by the tension between the
desire for personal adventure and
excitement, versus the iron hand of social
conformity and control.
For the female nativity, Shani = karaka for
the second husband. The second spouse
may be an amplified personality who has
some severe oppression or restriction on
his character development or public
behavior. E.g., Lisa Marie Presley's
second husband, the entertainer Michael
Jackson, created a difficult second-
marriage environment due to his socially
criticized relationship to children (Her
Rahu + Shani in Meena in 9).

Jennifer Aniston = domain-7,
Meena, drishti of Guru. The main
site of social disapproval is
marriage, and the main agent of
criticism will be the first husband.
She is blamed for not using the
marriage for conventional
purposes, i.e. for producing
children (Meena) and specifically
for placing her personal adventure
of an exciting career in the world
of beauty-image-illusion (Shukra,
Meena) above the society's need to
perpetuate the species.
Katie Holmes = domain-2, Simha,
no Parashari drishti. The stress and
pressure will come mainly through
the family history(2), at least
partly because the native married a
divorced man of another faith..
One is punished for individual
distinctiveness, for expressions of
creative intelligence (Simha); for
regal qualities such as an elegant
carriage, glamorous costume, and
power to attract center-stage
attention. Despite the many
benefits that a wealthy celebrity
family member can bring as
blessings to the group, her tribe
criticizes for the lack of
conformity to political (Simha)
and moral (Simha) principles and
her willingness to place her
personal creative development
ahead of family interests. Shani
karma is brutal in Mesha, Simha,
and Vrischika; with Rahu, any
outburst of creative genius is sure
to be punished..
Rahu + Shani =
Insanity?
Rahu + Shani = a deep conflict in the internal narrative
which may produce severe anxiety or worse.
However, it is important to appreciate that the
native was not born crazy. The anxiety and other
mental illness = a consequence of one's karmic
responsibility to integrate an ambitious outsider
(Rahu) into an orderly, fixed, conventional
social system (Shani).
Example :
intercultural marriage
Shani + Rahu = native carries the burden of social-moral
accountability (Shani) for the successful integration of
one's out-culture (Rahu) spouse into one's own cultural
system (Shani).
Recently this nativity crossed my desk:
At onset of Rahu Mahadasha, the mainstream
native male had married a bright, educated
woman from a privileged but socially
marginalized caste within his own nation. Her
complexion was not especially dark (Shukra
drishti grants a sparkling diamond glow) but she
did hail from a socially disparaged subgroup.
T he male was attracted to this female's ability to
get what she wanted (Rahu, desire) her exotic
beauty, and her passionate nature.
The wife assumed her husband's surname, thus
masking her original caste and aiding her
disguise. She pretended (Rahu) to like his family
and to adhere to their strict moral principles; yet
at every opportunities she spread lies and
suspicion (Rahu) about them. She found them to
be parochial and dull (Shani).
According to the native, while the public had no
inkling of their inner turmoil, at his Rahu-Shani
period, their marriage entered a decade of
unrelenting stress . Following the practices of
her birth culture, the wife pursued a covert (Rahu)
strategy of financial and marital dishonesty which
directly controverted the native's own family
morality.
Typical of Shani-Rahu: When he discovered her
shenanigans (which included felony crimes) *he
continued to cover for her* in order to protect his
own professional reputation.
responsible for the illicit or subversive actions of a
passionate outsider whom one has tried
unsuccessfully to integrate into a more lawful
culture.
One cannot control the unlawful outsider (Rahu).
Yet, one remains bonded to this person or idea
(Shani + Rahu); and it is only with great difficulty
and tremendous effort that one is able to extract
oneself from this disastrous karmic bondage.

USA Pres 33
Harry

The native 's appearance is socially identified with risk-
taking, reversals, and excitement
Example
Harry Truman = Rahu + lagnesha Budha =
messages (Budha) about sudden break-through
(Rahu)
e.g. his suddenly winning the presidential election
when newspapers had already printed his loss
Announcement of the USA atomic bombing of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Rahu + radix lagna

Physical appearance and competitive instincts = a
springboard to higher social rank and privilege.
Rahu + L-7 = Rahu
+ Shukra =
Marriage alliance and contractual partnership = a
springboard to higher social rank and privilege.
Rahu + Shukra or Rahu + L-7 = a similar effect to the
force of graha in domain-6, the 12th-from yuvati bhava,
the house of alliances.
Rahu + L-7, the lord of Contracts and Agreements
= Inability to commit to a person, a contract, a
project, an goal. Rahu + L-7 typically believes
that " rules are made to be broken" because higher
spiritual values force abandonment of the
contract. Rahu periods may signal the timing of
dissolution of agreement.
G raha in domain-6 will possess agency of loss of
contract, loss of balance, loss of partnership, loss
of mutual benefit and inability to achieve mutual
understanding. Blaming and accusations are
typically the outcome of this house.
Rahu + L-7 or Shukra in addition to the presence of
graha in domain-6 should predict a lifetime of inability to
establish emotionally satisfying partnerships.
The native may perceive oneself as being very well
aware of how to craft agreements and the native will
certainly be involved in continuous attempts to make
deals and establish alliances.
However, the overall result when a Rahu + alliance
karaka (Shukra or L-7) combines with the gravitational
pull of graha in domain-6 is a heavy weighting toward
quixotic dreaming about the ineffable and unobtainable
partner (Rahu) along with psychological resistance to
equality in partnership (6) and attraction to unusual (and
usually also inappropriate) partners (Rahu + Shukra).
Such a nativity is bound to try and try and try again -
with little or not satisfaction - due entirely to one's own
peculiarities.
