Lesser Deity Symbol: Fan of peacock feathers Home Plane: Green Fields Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Portfolio: Intrigue, marriage, female halflings Worshipers: Spies, schemers, wives, social climbers, matchmakers, nobles Domains: Chaos, Halfling, Nobility, Planning, Protection, Trickery Favored Weapon: Light Mace.
Mistress of Intrigue, Calderee appears as a beautiful, slender halfling with long auburn hair intricately plaited into a myriad of tiny braids. She is patron of marriage but also of jealous wives, for her husband Greniss gains the attention of many female worshipers in his own right and many sidelong looks from the female halfling deities. Calderee can have quite a violent streak and vicious temper, and often serves as a reminder that a woman is not to be scorned. It often falls to Sheela Peryroyl, the great mediator, to settle disputes between Calderee and other deities. Calderee has, however, served valiantly at the side of Yondalla and the rest of the Halfling Pantheon, and her abilities enabling her to plan ahead and think critically and analytically make her a worthy ally.
Dogma Calderee advocates looking out for number one, and she is not shy about advocating underhanded means to accomplish ones goals. She is a sneak, a spy and a plotter, and many of her followers are proud to be the same. Power, she says, is never freely givenit must be taken. Although some of Calderees followers are evil, she has many good-aligned followers and clerics who emphasize her more positive aspects as a protective and nurturing deity. She is also the patron of halfling nobility and clan officials.
Clergy and Temples Calderees clerics, known as Cleverfoxes (and Clevervixens), wear lavender tunics. They preside at weddings, typically offering stern admonitions to the bridegroom to remain faithful to his new wife. They also officiate at ceremonies installing elected officials (or coronations should a monarchy be in place.) Her temples are ornate, heavily decorated with silver and lavender velveteen banners, and suspiciously guarded by her clergy. Large peacock feathers are abundantly displayed as homage to the cunning goddess.
GRENISS Winesoaked Brother; Ivy-Wreathed Rascal Lesser Deity Symbol: Ivy-crowned halfling youth with a jug of wine Home Plane: Green Fields Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Portfolio: Revelry, mirth, theatre, feasting, wine, ale Worshipers: Revelers, bards, lotharios, vintners, barbarians Domains: Chaos, Fellowship, Halfling, Madness, Moon, Music Favored Weapon: Dart
Deity of wine, mirth and feasting to excess, Greniss appears as a virile halfling youth carrying a jug of wine and a harp. Like Sheela Peryroyl, he is also an agricultural god, but his power is limited to vines and fields of hops-- wine and ale and their influence on mortals. He is known to inspire frenzy in his worshipers (particularly females), and is only all to happy to serve as the halfling pantheons model of male flawlessness.
Dogma Greniss dogma is more of a way of lifea life of whimsy and abandon, free from any fetters of custom, law, inhibition or morality. Freedom is a cardinal virtue of Greniss faith and a higher principal than good or evil. It is for this capriciousness and freedom from cares that he is often looked down upon by Yondalla, Arvoreen, Cyrrollalee, and Urgolan, but the former three at least comprehend his purpose and mirth he brings to the halfling people which is very much a part of their culture. All too often, drunken revelry amongst Greniss flock turns into drunken recklessness, but he condemns neither. Halflings often worship Greniss when they consume wine or ale, spitting a mouthful between the teeth to the floor in his honor.
Clergy and Temples Clerics devoted to Greniss, known as Winesoakers, wear burgundy garb. They lead ecstatic rites celebrating him, which usually involve heavy drinking and feasting. A typical feast in his honor will involve the cooking of a suckling pig over a spit. Greniss temples are often small rooms adjacent to halfling taverns or wineries. More permanent halfling settlements will often establish a temple to Greniss in a cool cave near a vineyard or hops field, far enough away from town so that the revelry is not inhibited by the disapproving.
IENIEN Tranquil Waterer; Peaceful Watchman Demigod Symbol: Blue toad Home Plane: Green Fields Alignment: Neutral Good Portfolio: Tranquility, natural springs and pools, peace Worshipers: Contemplators, pacifists, druids, rangers Domains: Fey, Good, Halfling, Peace, Renewal, Water Favored Weapon: Net
Ienien is the quietest of the halfling pantheon, though his presence is felt wherever there is serenity in the wild, normally at the locale of a secluded spring or natural pool, or burbling brook leading to a gentle waterfall. He is a pacifist who eschews hostility, even if threatened. However, he minds his own business, rarely dallying with the frivolities of many of the other halfling deities. He is a gentle and quiet, considered an enigma by many halflings, though all acknowledge he is possessed of deep character and unswerving resolve. He is non-confrontational to the point of withdrawal, though has been a stalwart defender of the halfling people when the need has arisen, and has no tolerance for pillagers, blighters and despoilers. He is a subordinate of Sheela Peryroyl, who is far more assertive in handling the affairs of both deities and mortals alike. Ienien is a nature deity friendly to the fey. He takes pleasure in wandering amongst the faerie folk, frolicking in the natural springs and pools both hold dear. Various fey living proximate to halfling communities are among Ieniens faithful.
Dogma Peace can only come from within and cannot be taught or imposed. Seek stillness and thereby find peace. Do not despoil fresh waters. Nurture the wild environs surrounding fresh waters. Share with all beings the benefit of things that grow or come from running water so that they may better understand Ienien.
Clergy and Temples Ieniens clergy are few, because the average halfling is mischievous and lively and rarely appreciates the beauty and tranquility of seclusion. However, halflings very much appreciate the beauty of nature, and will give Ienien thanks when they serendipitously run upon a fresh spring or beautiful water body. The raiment of Ieniens clerics and druids, known as Wellsprings, range in various hues of teal, turquoise and aquamarine. A traveling halfling caravan will typically have at least Wellspring in their midst, for they travel at the head of the pack to serve as dowsers. While the Greenfosters, Sheelas clergy, are best regarded as the mediators for halfling disputes, Wellsprings are most often called for their calming influence on tense situations. Their phlegmatic nature is always much appreciated, for they have what halflings call The Waterers Aplomb a certain sangfroid and composure when the chips are down. Temples dedicated to Ienien are often secluded natural glades near a spring or trickling waterfall. Wooden totems of Ieniens holy symbol, the blue toad, are defining characteristics. Shrines to Ienien can often be found adjoining larger shrines to Sheela. In permanent halfling urban settlements, city fountains are sometimes dedicated in Ieniens honor.
OPEEDRIC Foreseeing Eye; Enruned Cat Lesser Deity Symbol: Black tattooed cat Home Plane: Green Fields Alignment: Neutral Portfolio: Divination, fate, truth Worshipers: Diviners, judges, monks, seekers of truth, spellcasters Domains: Divination, Fate, Knowledge, Magic, Rune, Spell Favored Weapon: Sling
Opeedric (o-PEE-dric) appears as a slightly elderly, bespectacled halfling. Most myths say he taught the arcane arts to his people, and indeed, he focuses much on increasing exposure of arcane magic to the halfling race. It is said he invented the art of magical graffiti which now enjoys increased popularity among halfling rogues and bards as a secretive means of employing various types of magic. Opeedric rarely concerns himself much with the rest of the halfling pantheon, though his quest for truth often finds him as an observer in inter-pantheonic disputes. He is inseparable from his tattooed cat familiar, and often takes the feline form himself when he desires solitude.
Dogma Opeedrics followers, known as Farseers, tend to be studious and ponderous. As is typical with those who concentrate on the inner eye and the power of divination, they often take action feeling that the result is fated to happen. Yet Opeedric favors those special few with the inner spark to stare fate in the face and change their destinies. This is the largest challenge of his faithful.
Clergy and Temples Opeedrics clerics revere his role as a magical patron. They actively practice the arcane arts, especially divination. Many of the clergy are multiclassed wizards (most often diviners) or, less frequently, bards or sorcerers. Opeedrics temples are lavishly decorated with mysterious halfling graffiti runes. In permanent halfling settlements, his temples typically abut the local college of magic, alchemists shop, or other relevant buildings in the arcane quarter. Less frequently, an Oracle of Opeedric will make services available to the public in the soothsaying arts. Temples to Opeedric typically contain an extensive library, with a selection of scrolls, potions and magical gadgetry; they may also contain arcane laboratories and training areas. Offerings of magical knowledge and magical items are accepted warmly by Opeedrics priests.
PEDESSELINE Copper Goddes; Coppery Flash Lesser Deity Symbol: Stag emblazoned on a coppery coin Home Plane: Green Fields Alignment: Chaotic Good Portfolio: Travel, Commerce, Gambling, Running Worshipers: Rogues, merchants, travelers, athletes, orators Domains: Chaos, Good, Halfling, Luck, Trade, Travel Favored Weapon: Halfling Skiprock
The halfling deity of travelers, merchants, gamblers, athletes and eloquent speakers, Pedesseline (peh-DESS-e- LEEN) appears as a fetching halfling lass with pixie-short coppery hair, often accompanied by a young buck. She is most often barefoot, darting and tumbling through the wilderness with indefatigable grace. She is a popular figure among the halfling pantheon, for she rarely offends some of the more stalwart figures (Yondalla, Arvoree, Cyrrollalee, Urogolan) nor the more roguish lot (Brandobaris, Calderee, Greniss, Dalla Thaun). She is an enthusiastic and flairish deity, beloved for her promotion of competition, travel and commerceall elements core to the typical halfling identity. She serves as messenger between the halfling pantheon and the deities of other planes.
Dogma Pedesseline appreciates fair play and good works. While she values the wit and daring required to accomplish a difficult theft, she frowns upon those who would steal from anyone who cannot afford the loss. She urges her followers to be dependable and prompt, but she despises tediousness and smiles when something unexpected upsets the predictable. The Copper Goddess abhors idleness. If one cannot do anything useful, she says, the proper thing to do is travel and have new experiences.
Clergy and Temples Pedesselines clerics, known as Copperkin, seldom sit still. Their vestments are colored copper or rust, and theyre always busy with something, or out traveling the world with the many halfling caravans that roam the land. They are found in a wide variety of occupations, including diplomats, translators, merchants, moneychangers, surveyors, explorers, and athletes. Wayside shrines to Pedesseline are common in halfling inhabited lands, but temples dedicated to her are effectively limited to permanent halfling communities. Manageable shrines in her honor are frequently found in compartments of the many covered wagons of a traveling caravan. Prayers are said in her honor during official halfling competitions, particularly rock throwing and skipping.
