As you have seen in the videos as well as the images in the presentation, please answer the
following critical analysis questions.

1) What medium did Van Gogh work in and how did that allow him to express himself?



2) Even with so much depression and anxiety how can the use of art help someone, like
Van Gogh, overcome such trauma?




3) In your opinion, what made his paintings so dynamic and interesting?





4) What would be the modern day equivalent to someone like Van Gogh? A musician or
celebrity?



5) Can you think of any other popular culture events, like Impressionism changed the way
society views the arts or the media today? (No right or wrong answer)



6) What medium did Picasso work in and how did it allow him to express himself?



7) Picasso was a worldwide celebrity, what other artists do you know had/have as much
fame as Picasso?



8) In your opinion, why would someone like Picasso want to be rebellious with his
development of Cubism?

Picasso and Van Gogh Group Presentation

After you have answered all of your questions, you may use the websites and research
organizational tools provided on CQArtAssignments.weebly.com.

With the information found, you will be assigned into groups of three or four classmates and
you will use the questions from the presentation to make a simple digital presentation in either
PowerPoint or Prezi. You may add additional information or images to your presentation. As
long as there is a general understanding of the artists and art movements.

Picasso and Van Gogh Portrait Paintings and Drawings

After completely plenty or research and observations of the artists work, please create a
portrait in the style of either artists. A list of criteria should be meant in your work of art:

1) Must be a portrait of self-portrait in the style of Van Gogh (Impressionism) or Picasso
(Cubism).
2)
3) Must be a two-dimensional media (i.e. painting, pencil, or ink).

4) Must be no smaller than 9 x 12 but no larger than 18 x 24.

5) Demonstrate the understanding of Impressionistic or Cubist art.

6) Demonstrate the ideas and emotions from both artistic styles and approaches.

7) Demonstrate the use of time and effort in artwork.

8) Be able to explain technique used a well as reasoning for your choice of artist and
aesthetic qualities of the artwork.
