Course Code: 106 Course Title: Organizational Behaviour-I

Course Overview: Organizational Behaviour (OB) is about the behaviour of individuals in
an organization, everyday people like you and us, who work and pursue careers today in
new and highly demanding organizational setups in individual, group and synchronized
organizational roles. The OB also helps us understand the ways in which people in
organizations differ from one another and further, why and how their thoughts, feelings,
and actions are impacted by individual or group differences. Individuals can be seen from
two perspectives: internal and external. The internal perspective considers factors inside
the person to understand behaviour, while external dimension examines a persons
behaviour through surrounding external events and environmental forces. The internal
perspective of human behaviour focuses on peoples thoughts, feelings, past experiences,
values, and needs as an individual. Working on this perspective, the course offers you to
make a conglomerate of what you are and what you possibly could be by exploring and
continuously improving your personality.

The course, Organizational Behaviour I (OB-I), has been designed over three modules
namely; Understanding Self, Managing Self, and Interpersonal Relationships. Starting with
the discovery of You, it takes you further to help you learn how you can manage yourself
in the best possible ways. Once you know who you are and how you can bring out the best
of your personality, the next module takes you to the dynamics of interpersonal
relationships, wherein you get to learn how to keep yourself aligned and fine-tuned with
others. Once your personal development has been taken care of as an individual, in
continuation with this, you will be exposed to the next level of organizational behaviour
through OB-II, which will provide you a gestalt picture of organizational behaviour at group
and organizational level. This course is scheduled in second trimester.

In a general sense, the goal of OB-I course is to uncomplicate the dynamics of individual
behaviour, which is one of the major building blocks in understanding behaviour in an
organization. To do this, a variety of activities will be put to practice, beyond the coverage
of concepts. Major parts of the course will be delivered through instruments/tools,
experiential exercises and cases. This will enhance your learning of the concepts and you
will be able to apply your learning in solving work-related problems in organizations.
