ROBOSAPIENS-2014

INTRODUCTION:

People look up to their TV screens in utter awe when Uttarakhand endured numerous assaults on its various holy places. Many
lost their homes, their loved ones and many lost their lives. Nature once again proved that the whole humanity is but a species
on the mercy of a gargantuan force far beyond its reach.
Humans realize the true destructive power of nature. Its time to prepare ourselves for another such event is at our doorstep.
The task is mammoth and the time is minimal. Here is our arena resembling the ruins of holy temple Kedarnath.
ROBOT DETAILS:
There are two robots, a manual bot and an autonomous bot.
Manual bot should be driven by a remote (wireless remotes are not allowed).
Autonomous bot should be completely autonomous, it must be triggered only once during the game.
Power supply to any of the two bots must not exceed 24V.

TASK: DESCRIPTION

Manual Bot Task:
As the game starts, the manual bot is free to pick either the life jacket or food to supply this to people trapped inside
the flooded area.
After feeding the two men, the manual bot will now proceed to save the people trapped on the other side of valley by
taking them to safe area.
After saving 4 people manual bot will go to save the Pujaari of Kedarnath Temple who is trapped on the other side of
valley by taking him to land area.
Autonomous Task:
Autobot may also start as the game begins.
It has to follow a line to reach the end point, while crossing all the check points along the path.
In the end it has to load the Pujaari of Kedarnath Temple upon itself and bring him back to the start point of
auto bot.

GAME FIELD AND OBJECTS: DESCRIPTION
The field consists of an area having the dimension of 4000mm x 4000mm and surrounded by a wooden fence
with a height of 50mm and a thickness of 10mm. The game field is divided equally for two teams by a
wooden fence with a height of 50mm and a thickness of 10mm, except for the water zone and temple zone.
The competing teams are Red and Yellow Teams.
There are 4 zones of arena: first the auto zone, second the object zone, third the water zone, and fourth zone
is the temple zone.
There are two starting points, point A for auto bot and point M for manual bot. Both the bots must start
from their respective zone.
Starting point A has dimension 250*250mm and point M has dimension 300*300mm.
There are:
Life Jacket: 2 for both the teams.
Food: 2 for both the teams.
Pujaari: 1 for both the teams.
COMPLETION TASKS
As the game begins the manual bot, starting from point M can now pick either the life jacket or the food
(cylinder: as shown in arena sketch).
Meanwhile auto may also start and follow the lines to reach the end point of line by crossing the checkpoints
which will be 4 in numbers.
Then it moves to water zone and put this to food pits.
After filling both the food pits, manual can move to refugee pits to take the people (balls: as shown in arena
sketch) to the safe zone. Here manual may take the help of sliding pipes.
After saving both the refugees manual should go to the temple zone save the Pujaari (balls: as shown in
arena sketch) of temple. It should bring the Pujaari to land with the help of sliding pipe which opens directly
upon the carriage of auto bot.
Now auto should bring the Pujaari back to the starting point of auto bot.

LAND ZONE SPECIFICATIONS

WATER ZONE SPECIFICATIONS : 1

WATER ZONE SPECIFICATIONS : 2

WATER ZONE SPECIFICATIONS : 3

WATER ZONE SPECIFICATIONS : 4

NOTE: Since both the sides are symmetrical thus dimensions given for red/yellow teams are equally applicable for
yellow/red team too.
NOTE: All humans in refugee pit are standard tennis balls.

DECIDING THE WINNER
The team whos Pujaari has reached to starting point will be considered as win irrespective of points earned
and the game ends here.
If both the teams are unable to rescue the Pujaari then the team having higher points will be considered as
winner.
If points are same then the team who has saved the people from refugee pits before the other team will be
considered as winner.
If even time is same for both the teams then rematch will take place.
RESTRICTIONS
At all-time all the robots should be in their own zone.
Manual bot should not touch the surface of water zone.
While picking up the Pujaari of own team, manual must not hit the Pujaari of other team.
NOTE: - But you can save the Pujaari of opponent team once you have saved yours.
SCORING
Placing food to food pit -- 10 points
Placing life jacket to food pit -- 20 points
Saving person from refugee pit -- 30 points
Picking up own Pujaari -- 30 points
Placing the Pujaari to sliding pipe -- 30 points
Picking and placing the opponents Pujaari to sliding pipe -- 50 points (no points for just picking in this case)
Auto taking the Pujaari back to starting point -- No points as you will be declared as winner.

Auto can change the value of points earned by you. As auto follows the line, it passes various checkpoints, there
will be 4 checkpoints. By passing through first checkpoint your points will be multiplied by 1.2, by passing second
it will be multiplied by 1.4, by passing third it will be multiplied by 1.6, by passing fourth it will be multiplied by
1.8,and at reaching final point it will be multiplied by 2.
If food or life jacket falls in water zone except at food pit -10 points
If person from refugee pit falls anywhere else except the refugee pit or the corresponding sliding pit -20
points
If manual bot touches the water zone -10 points
If manual hits the Pujaari of opponents team by picking its own -30 points
If Pujaari falls anywhere else except sliding pipe -30 points
If you take a retry -5 points

Retry:
Auto Bot:
In case of auto bot following the line, the bot must begin from starting point again and its all progress will be lost,
means no multiplication to scoring points
In case of auto bot taking the Pujaari back to starting point it must begin from the point where it loaded the Pujaari
and load the Pujaari again.
Manual Bot:
In case of manuals retry the team loses its previous step progress and has to redo its previous task again. For
example taking retry while attempting the Pujaari task you must save the people in refugee camp again, and while
taking retry during refugee pit task it must put food or life jacket to food pit again.
Note: Any strategy based on retry will not be accepted and may lead to disqualification from the tournament.

STRUCTURE OF THE TOURNAMENT

First round: Top 32 teams will qualify based on total points scored
Second round: Top 16 teams will qualify based on total points scored
Third round: Top 8 teams will qualify based on total points scored
Fourth round: Top 4 teams will qualify based on total points scored
Semi finals: Knockout
Final: Knockout

GAME PROCEDURE

Length: 4 minutes
Match ends if:
One team is disqualified
The other team saves Pujaari of its own team.
Manual robots I and II to be started in M1 and M2 respectively
Retries:
Retry can be made only after the referees permission in cases such as when the robot is declared immobile.
As many as retries can be made.
Only the 2 team members are allowed to touch the robot while placing it back to the retry point whose
names should be given to coordinators before the game starts.

CAUTIONS IN ROBOT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

Maximum dimension limits for manual bot is 300*300*500mm and for auto bot is 250*250*250mm
If any of the machines uses an externally placed power supply, the external power supply is not included in
the size constraint. However in case of on-board power supply, the machine along with the power supply
should fit in the above mentioned dimension box.
The machine must use only mechanical power or mechanical power converted from a source of electrical
energy.
During the game the machine is allowed to expand as much as it can, provided it does not damage the arena.
In case of electric power supply, the voltage at any point must be lower or equal to 24V DC during the game.
The organizers will provide a standard 230V/50 Hz AC power supply.
Any eliminator, adaptor, etc. required will have to be arranged by participants themselves. No special
demand will be entertained.
The manual bot must be controlled by wired remote control mechanism at all stages of game.
In case of wired mechanism the wire must be slack at all point of time during the game.
The machine should not leave spare parts in the arena at any stage. This can lead to a time penalty or may
even lead to disqualification.
Devices like hot air balloons/rockets which assist the machine in movement in any way are not permitted.
Any kind of assistance for locomotion through wall is prohibited.

VIOLATION AND DISQUALIFICATION

No team is allowed to hinder the functioning of robots of opponents team. Failing to do so will straight away
lead to disqualification.
No team is allowed to touch the robots of opponents team. Failing to do so will straight away lead to
disqualification.
During the match, the team members are not allowed to touch the machine or the arena without permission
of referee. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification.
Any kind of damage to the arena will attract disqualification.
The teams will be asked to get ready 15 minutes before the start of their match. If a team is not ready within
the stipulated time, the other team will be declared as the winner.
In any case, the decision of the judges will be final if they feel that any team is not playing with fair interest.

GENERAL RULES

All the students enrolled in high school, undergraduate, postgraduate (excluding PhD.) program at any
recognised institute (identity card will be checked) are eligible to participate.
A team can consist of a maximum of 5 members.
Each team must declare a name for their team at the time of competition.
The machines you build will be first checked for size and safety. The machine should not cause electric power
breakdowns.
The machine must not contain any combustible, corrosive, or otherwise dangerous materials for safety
reasons. No explosive compression or decompression, either internal or external is permitted.
Judges have the right to disqualify any machine whose working mechanism or game strategy is considered
hazardous in any way.
In case any kind of dispute arises the judges decision will be considered final and binding to all and no
argument will be entertained.

NOTE: ANY RULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE DURING THE EVENT SUCH AS LENGTH OF THE GAME OR
INCREASING OR DECREASING THE NUMBER OF FOOD PITS, ETC. TO INSERT AN ELEMENT OF
INTEREST IN THE GAME MAKING SURE IT IS FAIR TO ALL THE TEAMS.
