Introduction
RegLink

Software is used to monitor, configure, and

calibrate the RegFlo
TM
instruments. Some of the many
functions provided are: configuring and calibrating
Analog Input points for pressure and travel, on-line
diagnostics with reset options, RegFlo instrument flow
estimation and data acquisition, RegFlo instrument
system configuration, security, and retrieving logged
historical data.
The RegLink software requires at least 15 Kbytes of
RAM and runs on a personal computer (Pentium PC
with 32 Megabytes RAM) using Microsoft

Windows 95,
98, or NT. The computer requires a CD-ROM drive,
SVGA color monitor, 15 Megabytes of available RAM
hard disk space, and an RS232 serial connection or
telephone connection.
The User Interface
RegLink software employs a character-based graphical
user interface, similar in many ways to the Windows
operating system. Upon logging on to the RegLink
software, you see the available functions presented in
drop-down menus (see figure 2).
RegLink software is designed for ease of use. Drop-
down menus simplify accessing the functions provided
by the software, and dialog boxes help to direct selec-
tions and data entry. Actions can be performed either
by using the keyboard or by using a pointing device
such as a mouse.
When you select an item from a menu, a screen
appears that provides the requested information in an
easy-to-read format and lets you enter the applicable
configuration data.

STATUS LINE
The menu structure lists choices from which you can
select the desired function. Some items, when se-
lected, display another menu, which lists additional
functions. Once a function is selected, the associated
screen or dialog box displays.
Dialog boxes are areas that pop up on the screen,
allowing further selections to be made or values to be
entered. They can also display to provide messages
and information that is more detailed.
Help screens can be accessed either from the Help
menu or in a context-sensitive fashion from within the
menus and screens. This feature makes it easy to
obtain on-line information for any RegLink software topic.
A typical screen (see figure 2) displays parameters and
their associated values or selected options. Values are
contained in data fields, many of which can be edited.
Some parameters have options listed below them, with
the selected option marked. Buttons display dialog
boxes for further configuration details, or perform a
desired action, such as the Save button.
The buttons can be activated either by clicking with a
mouse or by pressing a key (such as the <Enter> key
or a function key). A status line at the bottom of the
screen contains pertinent information about the option
or parameter currently highlighted.

Menu Tree
Figure 3 shows the overall menu structure for the
functions that can be performed using the RegLink
software. Note that some functions may not be avail-
able, depending on the users access level and the way
that the RegFlo instrument is equipped.
Configuration
Each RegFlo instrument can be individually configured.
The RegLink software allows Sample Intervals and Log
Interval Rates to be set. Parameters relative to the
regulator size, type, and construction may also be
configured.

Communications
RegLink can communicate with the RegFlo instrument
using EIA-232 and EIA-485 serial communications
along with dial up modem communications. Call Time
settings enable you to determine when the RegFlo
instruments are available for host communications.
History and Alarms
The RegLink software can acquire the historical values
stored in a RegFlo instrument. The History Points,
shown in figure 4, includes selection of Pressure
Parameters, Travel Parameters, Flow, and Time such as
Minute, Hour, Day, and Min/Max values.
The Alarm Log can also be accessed. Alarms occur in
the RegFlo instrument when exceptional conditions
occur from field inputs and calculations. Figure 5 shows
the screen used to configure Logic Alarms in the
RegFlo instrument. Up to 10 logic alarms may be
configured per device.
Existing RegFlo instrument history and alarm logs can
be converted into a spreadsheet format file for easy file
exporting.
Security
The RegLink software provides multiple levels of
security for controlling access to the software functions
as well as the RegFlo instrument database. Making
changes to passwords or to the access level for
personnel is accomplished through the Tools menu,
which is available only to an authorized person.
