Police call the 15-year-old gunslinger they say fired on them a wanna-be cop killer, but his mom says hes a 'sweet child.' Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos questioned Gov. Cuomos character Thursday accusing him of capitulating to liberals by pushing to break up the bipartisan coalition controlling the state Senate. Rep. Charles Rangel, fresh off a tight primary win, is scrambling to amend his annual financial disclosure form after failing to report an all-expenses paid junket to China last year. Teacher Karen Gerdts is leading the charge at New Bridges Elementary for an expansion from two pre-K classrooms to five by September. FROM AROUND THE WEB Fans began prematurely celebrating a U.S. victory after team captain Clint Dempseys 81st-minute goal, which seemed like it would give the Americans their first consecutive World Cup wins since 1930. But star-spangled flags and faces suddenly went limp when Portugal's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo made a perfect cross pass to set up Varelas late- game heroics. Im shocked, said Ester Garcia, 30, of Hells Kitchen. They just needed to hold the ball. I cant believe this happened. They had the game. A win or a tie against Germany on Thursday would send the U.S. into the round of 16 but if the Americans lose, they need a tie between Ghana and Portugal, or a low-scoring win by Portugal in order to advance. Those teams play at the same time as the U.S.-Germany game. But Pedro Bermejo, 22, of Brooklyn, feared Sundays outcome may have taken the fight out of the U.S. team. I feel terrible that they have to play against Germany, Bermejo said. Im 60% sure Germany will win that game. Kelvin Diaz, 27, of Hempstead, L.I., said he believes in miracles. The game was great. You had the best of the best playing, Diaz said of Sundays match in the Amazon city of Manaus, Brazil. We still have a chance, Diaz said. And if youre scared, go to church. Carlos Vargas, 29, of Astoria, also likes the Americans chances against Germany. Anything is possible in the World Cup, Vargas said. Of course, not everyone bleeds red, white and blue. The U.S. has no chance, said Dijana Ilieva, 29, of Brooklyn. The Netherlands will go all all the way. With News Wire Services On a mobile device? Click to watch the video. RELATED GALLERY: STUNNER! They may be allowed to play, that's good for the commercial aspects of it but they will never be allowed to win. Look at the officiating thus far. The World Cup is as crooked as the day is long. DEBBIE PEACHTREE 4 days ago SHARE 1 Like REPLY You may be right. The fifa officials will think of something not to let U.S. win. LUIS DIAZ 4 days ago SHARE 0 Dear dear Debbie. Do you even understand how hard your US team worked and played to even get to the world cup? The previous host nation (South Africa, where I live) didn't even qualify. World cup qualifying matches start out with 209 national teams who play each other until there are 32 teams that play in the final tournament. The US team made it into the top 32. By saying the game is effectively rigged, you are suggesting that your team didn't work to get there. If I were the US team I'd be pretty insulted. Football (or soccer as you call it) isn't as big in the US as it is in the rest of the world. The US has never been a world soccer power. Over the past few decades your US team has been making gradual progress and qualifed for each of the past seven World Cup tournaments. So stop being such a sore loser and stop degrading the excellent standard of your current team by suggesting games are rigged. You don't know who the teams are until the teams do make it and a put in brackets. That's where the funny-business starts. Have you seen some of the calls in these matches? Or goals that were called offside when replays show clear onsides when the kick was taken and put into goal. ROBERT MALAFRONTE 4 days ago SHARE 0 Like REPLY It's called "Choking." With 30 seconds left you have to be on offense. You play defensively you LOSE. OLDER WISER 4 days ago SHARE 1 Like REPLY http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/male-model-choking-27780866.jpg OLDER WISER 4 days ago SHARE 0 Like REPLY That was the problem - Bradley tried to carry the attack forward instead of just kicking the ball away. Major tactical mistake! DAVE FICHTER 4 days ago SHARE 0 Like REPLY I agree. Even the most basic of youth coaches will have most of the field players crowd just outside or inside of the box (Especially with so little time left) and tell the players-something they should know-when you get it, clear it away and up-field! They played too much with the ball and left one player on Ronaldo. ROBERT MALAFRONTE 4 days ago SHARE 0 Like REPLY What game were you looking at? I saw no US defenders back in any kind of numbers. The US player nearest the Portugal player who put the ball in was behind him in the box. At least eight players should have been just outside or inside the box. I only saw about three players back. You get it, you clear it. One minute, how hard can that be?
