2006 2007 Academic Year Syllabus.

Attendance: You are responsible to attend your scheduled lesson each week. Failure to
attend will result in a lowered grade. If for some unavoidable reason you must cancel, 24
hours notice prior to your lesson is required, or else your grade will be lowered. If you
have an emergency and are unable to attend (such as illness, death in the family, car
accidentetc), please do your best to contact me via email or cell phone to inform me of
your status.

If for some reason I must miss an appointment, I will make every effort to contact you
ASAP prior to our scheduled time. If a lesson is missed, a make-up lesson will be
scheduled before the semester is out.

Please be on time (this means EARLY) to your lesson. Punctuality is a skill that as
musicians should be practiced like everything else.

Preparation: I expect you to practice. The amount that you practice will vary, depending
on the assignment(s) for that specific week. We will work together to establish a unique
practice routine, built specifically for you, and I expect you to do your best to execute it
to the best of your ability. Please think ahead and be sure to have the correct horn(s),
books, mouthpieces, recordings, etc.

When studying the trumpet, or any other instrument for that matter, practice is a daily
staple in all our lives. Its a fact that while youre in college, you will have the most time
in your entire life to practice. Dont wait.

Grading Policy: Everyone registered for applied lessons is required to perform a jury at
the end of the academic year. Reserve your accompanist early.

Materials: Horn(s) and mouthpieces aside, I require each student have a metronome.
Please bring it to every lesson. We WILL be using it, so dont forget. I suggest you have
a tuner as well. If you need a recommendation, or need assistance, let me know at our
first meeting.
