Welcome to the UTT

All the members of the Universit de Technologie de Troyes, students, professors
and administrative staff welcome incoming foreign students and hope that their stay
at the UTT will be a very enriching experience academically, socially and culturally.
Our aim is to provide an environment that suits both the students needs and
expectations. While the International Center will provide assistance in all
administrative tasks, each student will be assigned to a faculty member who will act
as their academic advisor.

Furthermore, a buddy will be assigned to each foreign student to help in all daily
chores and facilitate integration within the University, the city of Troyes and the
French society.

International students presence on our campus represents a tremendous asset to
our university and contributes much to the development of our international
dimension. In return they will receive a high quality education given by an outstanding
team of professors and professionals.

Like other UTT students they will have the opportunity to participate in various
extracurricular activities organized by the universitys associations and clubs. We
strongly recommend students to participate in these activities and projects, as they
will enable them to make friends and discover the UTT spirit.

The Universit de Technologie de Troyes


Presentation

The Universit de Technologie de Troyes, (UTT), is a public institution that depends
directly on the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Technology. It has
the advantage to combine all the assets of the engineering Grandes Ecoles and
those of universities. It develops simultaneously and coherently three missions:
education, research and transfer of technology.

The UTT is part of a network which includes two other Universities of Technology: the
Universit de Technologie de Compigne (UTC) and the Universit de Technologie
de Belfort-Montbliard (UTBM). These three universities are reputed for their ability to
innovate, adapt and provide an education that matches the ever-changing demands
of industry.

Since its creation in 1994, UTTs growth has been outstanding. Student enrolment
has increased from 150 in 1994 to over 2600 in 2010 and the number of Faculty
members as well as administrative personnel has grown accordingly to stay in line
with this trend. The universitys main building reveals an outstanding architecture,
with a futuristic looking, elliptic shaped facility that includes first rate equipment. The
campus is located next to a sports complex, at the heart of the Technopole de lAube
en Champagne, less than five kilometres from the city center.

The standard French engineering curriculum lasts 5 years and is the equivalent of a
Master's degree.

Education at the UTT is designed as an arborescent structure: Common Core,
followed by a Common Core of Major studies, and finally the Major with its
chosen specialization, so that the students can gradually build up their own
curriculum.

The 6 majors offered at the UTT are:

- Materials Science and Technology

While each major is coordinated by a specific academic department, the UTT also
has a transversal cross-disciplinary department called Human Sciences and
Technology from which all students select a certain number of credit courses.

In addition to the 5 years engineering degree, the UTT also awards a one year post-
graduate diploma, the Master of Science, Health and Technology which includes
three emphases (Mechanics and Physics, Information Technology and
Communication Sciences, and Engineering and Management), each offering three
areas of specialization. In Optics and Technologies, one of the specializa tions
of the Mechanics and Physics emphasis, courses are given also in English.

The UTT maintains close relations with the industrial world. One third of its lecturers
come from industry and the university has numerous research contracts with public
and private organizations. During their Major, students must undertake two semesters
of professional work experience. In recent years, the University has reached its goal
of expanding and improving its international links both on a quantitative and
qualitative basis. The university has relations with several foreign universities through
bilateral agreements and various networks.

It is now entering the third phase of its development, focusing on industrial relations,
(including industrial placements) and research, (fundamental and applied).

Life at the UTT

There are many activities in which students can participate at the UTT. There is a rich
student life with many clubs and bodies. There are many resources put at the
students disposal including IT access, (WIFI) and the Library. In addition to this,
there are many sporting activities offered.

Sports play an important part in the students life at the university. Sports are not
compulsory, but their practice is strongly encouraged. The UTT's sports programme
is jointly organized with the Graduate School of Management (ESC Troyes). Students
wishing to take part must subscribe to the sports union (44.00 per year). Students
staying for a semester pay half this rate.

There are more than 40 sporting activities on offer. For certain activities there may be
a small surcharge.

Students may also participate in different university competitions.


The Students Union (BDE)

The Students Union (BDE) acts as a catalyst for all this energy. It coordinates most
extra-curricular activities: clubs and associations' projects. Equally important, it is the
students representative body for the university administration.

Clubs

There are over 30 clubs and associations which, thanks to the energy and
commitment of their members, enable our university to be so much more than just an
institution providing education.

A selection of the most popular are listed below:

Rock (dancing club)

To learn rocknroll, to improve your style, to go on acrobatic dancing, to learn ethnic
dances (salsa, etc). This club meets at least once a week.

Comics Street (Comics and Strip Cartoons)

Comics Street is installed in the UTT street. It has a lending library of many cartoon
strips to be read outside classes (obviously!).

J uggling Club

Beginners and specialists can often be seen on the campus doing tricks worthy of the
best circus troupes.

Pulsations (Music Club and Choir)

This club gathers some of the most interesting music groups of the UTT and is aimed
at all those interested in instrumental and choral music . A room is booked for them
and during the week, different periods are set aside for practical sessions and
beginners training. They organize some musical parties especially the Scne
Ouverte which stands for Open stage - (a 600-students event). Whether you
fancy Mozart or the Rolling Stones, there will be a place for you.

Theatre Club

The works of Corneille and Ionesco for everyone. Students and staff work together at
different plays.

UTT Gala (BDE Gala committee)

The Gala is held annually within the Universitys premises and it welcomes over 2000
people. The Galas benefits are given to a different charitable organization each year.
The committee organizes it. The objective is to do better than the predecessors.

UTT Marine (Sailing and Water Sports Club)

They organize sailing sessions on the Orient Forest Lake, take part in regattas.
Always fun even in the rain.

ASUTT

The ASUTT is the sports association of the UTT. It offers the possibility to practice a
sport as a leisure activity or at competition level, individually or collectively. The
ASUTT also organizes events, (parties, week-ends, tournaments), enabling the
students to challenge and meet people.

Big Band

The Big Band is the orchestra of the UTT gathering about 20 students. The music is
based mainly on improvisation. Every semester, some artists are invited to work with
the musicians, thus enabling Big Band members to discover many styles of music.
The band participates in musical events like the FIMU, (International University Music
Festival), in Belfort.

This is the brass band of the UTT. These musicians are always there for festivals,
sporting events to share their passion for music and furious rhythm.




Student bodies

As well as these clubs, the BDE also supports other associations which otherwise
operate in their own rights. The most popular are:


ISF Troyes (Ingnieurs Sans Frontires - Engineers Without Borders)

The main international engineering project was created in 1982 and is non-political
and non-governmental.

The Troyes group has been working for 8 years and there are about twenty members.
ISF works in international aid schemes for third world countries. The objectives are to
take part in the setting-up of programs aiming to enable the local populations to
continue with their development while providing them with technical and financial
support, and to make French people more aware of the riches and difficulties of the
third world and of the problems involved in providing aid for development.

Mechanical Sports Institute (ISM)

The main objective of this institute is, by all the means at its disposal, to participate in
the development, implementation and promotion of sport.

Through their work and play, ISM members hope to enhance the dynamic image of
the UTT in the region, by furthering friendly contacts with organizations, regional
bodies, between students and managers of companies, financial institutions or
municipal executives (e.g. development and sponsorship).

On the sport side, ISM enables practice, training and finally, for the best, participation
in the great regional and national sports meeting (e.g. Le Touquet Endurance Race,
the Ricard trophy, etc). Each year ISM organizes a Solex race around the UTT.
This event gathers more than 300 participants and provides an opportunity for the
nearby police station to test their radar equipment !

International Students Association: INTERLINK
Interlink@utt.fr

This association participates actively in the reception of foreign students. Its main
objective is to facilitate the students' integration in the university, in the city and in
France. Throughout the year, it organizes several activities (cultural, artistic,
sports).

Bringing vitality to the campus, these clubs and associations bring you the best of the
UTT. Do not hesitate and get involved! Try the various activities that you fancy,
participate actively, start your own club there are so many opportunities.



Inter-semester activities


The Fall and Spring semesters are separated by an Inter-semester period
(February) lasting four weeks. The UTT offers an original way to French students or
to foreign degree-seeking students to make the most of this period by taking part in
group activities. They can be suggested by both the students and faculty members.
International students who have already spent a semester at the UTT can also enrich
themselves by participating in the many activities offered or propose an activity of
their own.

Exchange students coming either for the Fall or the Spring Semester
are welcome to participate in the intensive French language course,
and Project Management (CS03). There will also be cultural trips and
industrial visits all along

All students arriving in Fall may also participate in the skiing trip.

The CRI (Computer Resources Center) manages all the I.T. resources at the UTT
enabling students and staff to use:

Students have access to the computer laboratories from 7:45 Am to 11:00 Pm from
Monday to Friday and from 7:45 Am to 12:00 Am on Saturday.

Each student, after signing the UTT information charter, receives an account and a

works (dictionaries, encyclopdias, etc.) in the fields of science, technology, human

The information system enables tracing of documents (available, on order, on loan).
Another version also gives access to the documents of the two other French
Universities of Technology (Compigne and Belfort-Montbliard).

Troyes and the Region

An hour and a half from Paris by road or rail, Troyes, once the regional seat of power
for the Counts of Champagne, is a city rich in art and history. The old city center has
kept intact its medieval architecture with its half-timbered houses and Champagne
checkerboard faades of alternating dark-red and chalk bricks. The old city center is
known locally as the Champagne Cork because of its unusual shape.

Present day Troyes (130,000 inhabitants including its suburbs) has a vibrant cultural
and artistic life, a thriving economy and many sporting activities. Various events take
place throughout the year, such as the Nuits de Champagne (musical entertainment
evenings) les Btisseurs de Cathdrales (an open-air show telling the story of how
the cathedrals were built), les 48 heures dAutomobiles Anciennes (Vintage Car
Rally) or the many Trade Fairs, to name but a few. LESTAC is the name given to
the Troyes football team which enjoys much local support.

The Aube regional economys strength lies in its diversity. Historically based on an
expertise in the textile and knitwear industries, the regions activities have expanded
into other sectors such as agricultural and related food industries, metallurgy and
packaging. In the last decade the local economy is rapidly shifting to services and
higher value-added enterprises. This trend is supported by the recent development of
higher educational institutions and the creation of both a Biotechnology Institute and a
High Tech Center. With more than 5000 university students, Troyes has become a
very attractive place for youngsters to follow their studies and to begin their
professional careers.

Troyes still remains today Frances textile capital both for production and marketing of
textile products, notably through its numerous factory shops concentrated on two
sites on the outskirts of the city. World-famous brands of clothing such as Lacoste,
Petit Bateau, Absorba and DD are still produced in Troyes. The expertise in
production and export demonstrated by the Aube textile industry has shown the way
forward for companies in other sectors of activity.

The Aube region can pride itself on having attracted companies who are either
national, European or world leaders in their various fields. For example: street pole
manufacturers (Petitjean); locksmiths (Vachette); manufacturers of printing presses
(Gravograph); electronic components (CQE); bicycles (Cycleurope) or industrial
laundry machines (Electrolux).

While large enough to offer all the facilities of a major commercial and cultural center,
Troyes still manages to be a friendly, easy-going and safe place to live. Although
Paris is only 90 minutes away, Troyes is also close to some of the most beautiful
countryside in the region: one third of the department is forested and has the highest

number of artificial lakes in Europe. Just 15 km away, lies the major natural tourist
attraction: the Regional Park of the Fort dOrient, a haven for rare plants and wildlife,
but equally well equipped for swimming, boating and jet skiing.

The Aube region is also famous for its champagne and wines: its vineyards produce a
quarter of all Champagne production. La Route du Champagne takes you through
charming villages and beautiful countryside.

Troyes, with its friendly, welcoming atmosphere, is the ideal place to be a student.
Finding somewhere to live is relatively easy and the prices are reasonable. Many
local attractions and institutions offer discounts to students, enabling you to benefit
from the numerous leisure, cultural and sports facilities the city has to offer.

Budget estimation and useful tips

The cost of living for students in France is one of the cheapest in the Western World.
When students are making their budget forecast they should divide their expenses
into 2 categories:

Their regular living expenses on a monthly basis: about 550
The additional expenses associated with travelling, living and studying in a
foreign country which are not included in the regular monthly expenses (tourism,
leisure activities, rent deposit, Student Unions subscription). For all students
from non UE countries there is a compulsory health insurance coverage, which
costs approximately 200 per year.

Students should make sure to have either Travellers Checks (which are useful
when opening a bank account), or an International Credit Card (Visa or
MasterCard). Whichever type of accommodation they choose, they will have to pay a
rent and a deposit when they arrive. If possible, they should make photocopies of
the official documents required.

They must not forget to bring the brochures, maps of Troyes and bus routes which
were sent to them: they may need them on arrival.

They must remember to bring some bed sheets and a few kitchen utensils.

LOCAL TAX
If they were occupying an accommodation on January 1st, students will have
to pay a local tax ("taxe d'habitation") at the end of the calendar year,
amounting to about one months rent for the entire year (regardless of the
length of their stay).
HOME INSURANCE
Every person in France MUST have comprehensive home insurance. Please
read carefully the notice about this in the Accommodation form and consult
us for further details
HOUSING BENEFITS, (CAF)
European and non-European students with a Long Stay visa, (VLS: Visa Long
Sjour- tudiants type D in French) can apply, if they wish, for the housing
benefits. Applications to the housing benefits are examined by CAF, which
assesses the personal situation of each applicant. CAF alone decides for each
applicant on his/her eligibility or not to the housing benefits. If an applicant is
eligible, the CAF will also decide on the level of benefit.
Rental conditions of the residences
Accommodations are rented for full months only, except the first month,
(for further details, please contact the residencesoffices).
Tthe rent is generally to be paid in advance every month. First month and
deposit to be paid on arrival

General information

Students must inform the International Center they plan to come for the
intensive French language course or just for the start of the regular term.

Above all, they should inform us about their arrival date.

Upon reception of this information the International Center will arrange for someone
to meet the incoming students either at the train station in Troyes or at the UTT for
those who plan to come by car.

For students coming from a non European country, it is possible to be met at
the airport in Paris.

foreign students expect to arrive. Students should not hesitate to contact the
International Center if they miss a connecting flight or a train.

Itineraries

If students arrive in Paris, they will need to get to Gare de lEst (train station in the
north east of Paris) to take the train to Troyes.

From another train station in Paris
Students must take either the underground (metro) or a bus and get off at Gare
de lEst. A metro ticket costs 1.70

From Charles de Gaulle airport (Roissy)
There are three possibilities to travel between Paris and Roissy Charles de
Gaulles airport:
*RATP bus 350: three metro T+ tickets (1,70 Euros each) are needed for a trip,
the journey takes about an hour, please note that Gare de lEst is NOT the end of
the line
*Roissy bus: a ticket costs 10.00 , the trip is shorter as there are fewer stops
than with RATP bus 350, the end of the line is Paris Opera
OR
They must use Roissy Rail: they must go to the RER station in the airport and
take the RER line B in the direction of the Gare du Nord. The ticket costs
9.25 . Then they get off at the Gare du Nord and walk to the Gare de lEst
(10 minutes) or take the underground M4 towards Porte d'Orlans" and get off
at Gare de l'Est, (first stop). Total length of the journey is about 45 minutes.

From Orly airport

They must take the automatic metro Orlyval to Antony then take the RER line
B in the direction of the Gare du Nord. The ticket costs 10.90 and includes a
metro connection. Students must get off at the Gare du Nord and walk to the
Gare de lEst (10 minutes), or take the underground M4 towards Porte
d'Orlans" and get off at Gare de l'Est, (first stop). Total length of the journey is
about 45 minutes.

From Gare de lEst there are trains that run directly to Troyes. These run
approximately every two hours during the day and evening. The journey normally
takes 1 hours.

Trip by train

Troyes is on the Paris-Ble railways line. Departure from Paris is at Gare de
lEst, (see the section Itineraries for further details on how to get to Gare de
lEst). Once in Troyes, students who told us their time of arrival will be
collected at the station. They may also call us upon their arrival in Troyes
during office hours. If they need to come to the UTT by their own means, they
may, of course, take a taxi or the n6 line in the direction of Chartreux, (they
must step down at either of the following stops: Masson or Technopole) .
Bus n6 nearest stop from the railways station is Gare Prier.

Travelling by car

and the UTT. UTTs closest main road is Rocade Sud

Visa: category and formalities

BEWARE: even students who have a valid residents permit from a European
countryother than France or a visa for it, MUST nontheless APPLY for a visa at a
French Consulate if they wish to stay for more than three months in France.

NON EUROPEAN STUDENTS COMING FOR MORE THAN THREE MONTHS
WITHOUT A VALID VISA SHALL NOT BE REGISTERED AT THE UTT.

, 2009 students are most often issued with a tvpe D that is valid up to a
year. In this case, the visa type D also bears the mention Ceseda R311-3-6. This
visa needs to be validated by OFII at regional level. Students must submit to the
International Center the OFII related document which they have received from the
French consulate to initiate the validation process of their visa upon arrival. This
document shall be sent to the regional representation of OFII by registered mail.
Once validated by OFII, the visa type D becomes a residents permit. Students
staying for more than a year will need to apply for a residents permit two months
before the expiry date of their visa. They should contact the Services de la vie
tudiante, room S003 for this purpose.


In a few cases, they may be issued with the traditional type D visa that is valid for
three months. In this case, they must apply for a residents permit within two months
of their arrival in France.

Opening a Bank Account

It is a good idea to open a bank account as it will make it easier for you to pay your
rent (using direct debit) and to receive reimbursements from the CPAM or
LMDE/MGEL (Health insurance Office) for doctors visits, etc. It is compulsory for
students who wish to receive "State Housing Benefits" unless the benefits are paid to
their owner, (and deducted from the future rents).

In most banks, opening a bank account is free for students under 25 years old.

For students who are not citizens of the European Economic Area, they must have a
passport and a Visa as well. The main banks addresses can be given to students on
their arrival. Generally speaking, all banks offer special student packages, such as a

Integration within the UTT and the city
Reception Week and Personal Tutoring

At the start of both semesters, there is a Reception week which the foreign students
must attend. During that particular week, students will undertake several
administrative formalities such as courses' registration, reception of their identification
card and personal e-mail address, visit of the Library, etc.

They will also be assigned to an advisor (member of the teaching staff) whose role
will be to provide academic advice throughout their period of studies at the UTT.

Also, students will get assistance from several departments at the university such as
the International Center, the Internships Office and the Administration of Studies.
Help provided by these departments can vary from finding permanent
accommodation to filling administrative papers.

Students will have a French student buddy who will provide help on a daily basis
and facilitate the students' integration into both the UTT and French society. Students
arriving before Reception Week will receive some of the services mentioned above as

soon as they begin their intensive French language course, which takes place at the
UTT.
Freshers weekend

During Reception Week the Student Union organizes several activities. These are to
familiarize all incoming students with their environment and to facilitate their
integration into the university. Freshers weekend is the major event that closes
Reception Week. Attendance is not compulsory but most students participate in this
event which, in its organization and implementation phases, is closely supervised by
the universitys administration. Freshers weekend is one of the UTTs major social
and sporting events that foreign students should not miss.

Moneo services

The Utt has recently adopted the multi-purpose prepaid card Moneo. The traditional
UTT card has therefore given way to a new device that combines the functions of the
former student card with the higly efficient services of the Moneo electronic purse.
Students now use their card to also buy and store printing and photocopy credits, pay
their meals at the university restaurant or pay for their shopping, (in the shops that
have adopted Moneo).

The Moneo multi-purpose prepaid card is always empty when first delivered. Whilst
activation of the card and the buying of printing and copy credits is possible at the
UTT only, to use it for payments, students will be able to fill not only at the
appropriate Moneo terminal in the university restaurants and cafeterias but also at
their bank or at a post office, (when available).



Where to eat?

There is one University Restaurant near the UTT and there are also two snack bars
serving midday meals such as salads, sandwiches and pizzas. They also serve
breakfasts for approximately 3.05

Dcouverte 12/25 tickets (available to young people between the ages of 12
and 25): With this ticket, students can obtain at least a 25% reduction on the
normal price, (and up to 60%) providing they prove their age they start their
journey in the Blue Period (timetables showing the different periods blue, red
and white, are available at the train station)

Dcouverte 12/25 card (Young persons Railcard): this card costs 50 and
gives students from 25% to 60% reduction on the normal price for an unlimited
number of journeys for a whole year

Travelling with a type D visa

-Holders of a visa type D are entitled to travel within the Shenghen area providing
their visa bears the mention Mult in the field number of entries. In this case, they
may also return home and back to France even if their visa has not been validated,
as long as their visa remains valid. They should apply for a Residents permit if their
visa expires before the date of their return to France and should apply for a Visa de
retour, (return visa) in their home country.

This is a standard card that is accepted everywhere and can be bought in Tabacs,
(shops where cigarettes and newspapers are sold). The card works by putting it into
the slot in the Telephone box. These cards are useful for calling French numbers.


Carte de tlphone internationale
These cards are very useful for international students phoning home. International
calls are much cheaper than with a France Tlcom card. The cards can be bought
in Tabacs and have a freephone number that can be called by following the
instructions on the card. International calls can be made at rates that are much
cheaper than those of conventional cards.

Before leaving your accommodation and/or
the UTT



Before leaving their accommodations, students must :

Inform their accommodation site about their date of departure in time: students
must give notice in time if they want to avoid extra-charges, (please consult
your owner or your residence for futher details)
Inform the Caisse d'Allocations Familiales of their date of departure


If they are returning to their home country, they should also:

Cancel their phone subscription
Return their bike if rented and their books to the library (15 days before leaving)
Close their French bank account at least 2 or 3 weeks before their departure
date *
Inform the International Center of the UTT about their departure date and leave
their home address, phone number and e-mail address where they can be
contacted
Terminate any contracts they will no longer need, especially their housing
contracts

* or tell the bank when this should be done if money still needs to be transferred to
their bank account, (for instance the housing benefits). If necessary, students should
also give their French bank all the details of their account at home to have their
French accounts balance transferred to their bank account at home.

Academic information
Advice for international students

Exchange students

Exchange students are welcome to the UTT for a period of study (up to 1 academic
year). Before the start of the regular semester, we strongly recommend that students
enrol in the intersemester program, (the French intensive course and/or CS03 Project
management).

The UTT curriculum offers a high level of flexibility as they are based on a cumulative
credit system divided into semesters. There is a wide range of credit courses from
which students can choose. The annual workload for a UTT student is 60 ECTS.

Upon arrival, each student is assigned to an academic advisor (Faculty member)
whose role is to provide advice throughout the students period of studies at the UTT.

Visiting students can select courses from both Common Core and/or Major studies
(including the specializations) under the conditions that the courses are available for
the given semester and compatible with the universitys timetable. They can choose
credit courses across Majors.

The students final selection must be approved by both their home institution and the
UTT. Although most of the teaching is conducted in French some of the courses are
taught in English.

The 4-week intensive French language course, CS03-Project Management and the
credit courses offered in English have been created to facilitate the students cultural,
social and academic adaptation to the UTT and France.

The intensive French language course which takes place before the start of each
semester is completed by weekly sessions (from 4 to 8 hours) throughout the
semester. For students with a good language level, these courses will enable them to
study in French while for others, they will provide them with the necessary skills to
function at ease within the French society.

The courses taught in English allow for a gradual integration into the UTT academic
system by making it possible for students whose knowledge of French is limited to
follow their courses and enjoy their stay in France.

A suitable scheme for such students is to follow the intersemester program in which
they can validate an intensive French language course (4 ECTS) and Project

Management (6 ECTS). This way, international students can benefit from the
intersemester period to validate courses (10 ECTS) and they have the possibility to
carry a lighter workload during the spring semester, 20 ECTS instead of 30, which
represents the usual workload for French students.

The UTT offers a certain number of credit courses (called TX) that require practical
knowledge and project work. Students who select these courses work in small groups
in close contact with a member of the teaching staff. A list of these topics for these
courses is published before each semester and students can easily register for them.

Also, there is a possibility for visiting students to undertake a practical internship in
one of the universitys laboratories or in a company. For students who intend to do a
work placement outside the university in a company, their internship must be
preceded by a semester of studies at the UTT.

The various possibilities presented above have been created to help visiting students
to find the "right combination" as to satisfy to their home institution's requirements and
to have a very enriching experience in France.

Application Forms must be returned to us at the latest by the 1
st
of June for the
Autumn semester and the 1st of December for the Spring semester.


Degree seeking students
The standard French engineering degree (Diplme dIngnieur) lasts five years and is
the equivalent of a Master of Science.

Education at the UTT is designed as an arborescent structure: Common Core,
followed by a Common Core of Major studies, and finally the Major with its chosen
specialization, so that the students can gradually build up their own courses.

The 6 majors offered at the UTT are:

- Systems, Networks and Telecommunications
- Materials Science and Technology
- Materials Processes and Manufacture
While each major is coordinated by a specific academic department, the UTT also
has a transversal cross disciplinary department called Human Sciences and
Technology from which all students select a certain number of credit courses.

In addition to the 5 year engineering degree, the UTT also awards a one
year post-graduate diploma, the Master of Science, Health and Technology that
offers with three emphases each including three different specialization programs:

Since Fall 2000, the UTT has been granted the authorization to award its
own PhD degrees.



UTT grading system / ECTS

Since 1990, with the introduction of the ERASMUS program, the European Union has
set up the ECTS scheme (European Credit Transfer System) to enable students to
validate their periods of study abroad. The ECTS is a system of academic recognition
of learning achievements and transfer of credits throughout the EU, providing a way
of measuring and comparing academic results and transferring them from one
institution to another.

The ECTS system is based on 3 main principles:

Information on courses available and students results
Agreement between the participating institutions and the students
The use of Credit Points

These three core elements are implemented by means of three key documents:

The information package
The application form/learning agreement
The transcript of records

ECTS credits are a value allocated to course units to describe the student workload
required. They reflect the quantity of work each course requires in relation to the total
quantity of work required to complete a full year of academic study at the institution.
Thus, 60 credits represent the workload of a year of study (30 credits = one
semester). It is up to the individual participating institution to subdivide the credits for
the different courses over the year.

The ECTS system is based on the principle of mutual trust and confidence between
the participating institutions. The code of practice offered by the ECTS ensures that
all members adhere to the agreed guidelines and facilitates academic recognition of
studies abroad.

The UTT grading system

The UTT has adopted the European Transfer Credit System (ECTS) and its
grading scale.
Each credit course is worth 4 or 6 ECTS, (please see List of all credit courses).

At the UTT, there is no catch up or second examination session in any given
semester.
