Analysis of the poem

The poem is mainly about nature where the poet is wondering lonely as lonely as the
clouds where he came across a host of golden daffodils which is located beside the lake.
The golden daffodils are dancing and fluttering in the breeze, this shows that the poet
admires the golden daffodils which he came across. The golden daffodils are like stars that
shine and twinkle on the Milky Way in a stretched in a never ending line. Besides that, the
poet saw ten thousand golden daffodils at a glance where it is tossing their heads in a form
of a dance. The poet is feeling happy with a beautiful vision to look at as the flowers and
waves as he feels like companions to him. In addition, the poet keeps gazing at the flowers
as he enjoys looking at them. Furthermore, the poet is saying that he is always remembering
the memory of the flowers and the lake flashes into his head and this makes him feel happy
again. This poem is written by William WordsWorth who was born in England on 7
th
April
1770 and deceased on 23
rd
April 1850 and was buried at St. Oswald's church in Grasmere
due to pleurisy. Some of his major works are such as The Thorn ,The Table Turned and
many more.
There are several imageries used in this poem, imagery is used in literature in order
to describe or enhance sensory experiences to the text. There are five types of imagery
which is related to the five sense are the Auditory, Visual, Olfactory, Oral and Tactile. The
visual imageries are clouds, hills, golden daffodils, lake, dancing, trees, stars and waves.
The auditory imageries are fluttering. The imagery related to smell will be breeze. The tactile
imagery used in this poem will be they stretchd in never-ending line and for oft, when on
my couch I lie.
There are several figures of speech in stanza one such as alliteration which can be
found in (line 1) lonely as a cloud. Simile is also found in (line 1) I WANDERED lonely as a
cloud. Personification is the comparison of the cloud to a lonely human in (line 1), I saw a
crowd a host of golden daffodils (line 3-4) and dancing in the breeze (line 6), tossing their
heads in sprightly dance (line 12) and the waves beside them danced (line 13). Alliteration is
the repetition of the consonant at the beginning of the word such as high oer vales and hills,
Beside the lake, beneath the trees, I gazed---and gazed-- , Ten Thousand saw I at a glance
(line 11), what wealth (line 18),continuous as the stars that shine (line 7). Hyperbole that
can be found in this poem is they strectd in never-ending line and ten thousand saw I at a
glance. Repetition which can be found is I gazedand gazed.
The poem contains four stanzas of six lines each. In each stanza, the first line
rhymes with the third and the second with the fourth. The rhyming scheme is a-b-a-b-c-c The
stanza then ends with a rhyming couplet. Wordsworth unifies the content of the poem by
focusing the first three stanzas on the experience at the lake and the last stanza on the
memory of that experience. The lines in the poem are in iambic tetrameter.
In my view point overall I personally think that Daffodils is a wonderful poem where it
engages people with nature and teaches people how to appreciate nature where lots of
beautiful things can be seen. Besides that, this poem teaches us some values that we can
apply it to our life such as happiness of being in the nature. Overall I belief this poem is a
pretty good poem where I personally believe it has taught me good values which I can apply
it to my life.
