donation from the Pippin
family to honor their
three sons. It will offer a
scholarship to each of the
12 districts that comprise
the Last Frontier Coun-
cil, Boy Scouts of Amer-
ica. The council serves
24 counties across west-
ern and central Okla-
homa including the Okla-
homa City Metro area.
We cant thank Phil
and Alice enough for this
generous contribution for
our Eagle Scouts and the
future of our council,
LFC Council Commis-
sioner Bob Spinks said.
These scholarships will
reward the years of hard
work these boys put into
earning their Eagle and
especially the service
they perform during their
Eagle project.
The central require-
ment for earning the
Eagle Scout rank is a
community service proj-
ect. Each Eagle Scouts
service project will be
considered for the award.
Adistrict committee will
select a winner of the
$500 award based upon
the merits of their proj-
ects. Eagle projects in the
Last Frontier Council
have helped countless
churches, agencies and
other people in need for
the past 100 years,
Spinks said. They will
receive the awards in
December at the Coun-
cils Recognition Ban-
quet.
We applaud the Pip-
pens on establishing the
Last Frontier Council
Eagle Scout Project
Scholarship, says Nancy
B. Anthony, president,
Oklahoma City Commu-
nity Foundation. The
scholarship is a great
example of how we are
able to work with donors
to create funds that meet
their specific needs and
that will benefit and rec-
ognize worthy recipients
such as the Last Frontier
Councils Eagle Scouts.
Phil Pippin served as
Scoutmaster for Troop
193 when a fellow
Scouting volunteer estab-
lished a similar fund for
Eagle Scouts in the
troop. Pippin serves on
the Councils Executive
Board, the BSAs South-
ern Region Board and on
the National High
Adventure Committee.
Pippins sons Richard
and Phillip both received
the scholarship from
Troop 193, as well as
Governor Mary Fallins
son, Price.
This scholarship fund
is a great way to recog-
nize the hard work and
commitment of our Eagle
Scouts, said Governor
Mary Fallin. I appreci-
ate the generosity of Phil
and Alice Pippin in
establishing this fund,
which will aid Eagle
Scouts as they continue
their post-secondary
studies to help them
attain their career goals.
Every type and amount
of scholarship is appreci-
ated. I know this first-
hand -- my son, Price,
was awarded a similar
scholarship from Troop
193 for his Eagle Scout
work, which helped in
his pursuing and earning
a college degree.
Pippins son Richard
is now a Biology major
at the University of
Oklahoma, Phillip is a
junior at Casady High
School and their
youngest son, John, is
currently the Senior
Patrol Leader for Troop
193 and working toward
his Eagle Scout.
