CULTURAL NIGHT
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. All the participants of every college/school must be a bona fide student of MSU-IIT, currently
enrolled for the academic year 2014-2015.
2. The contests will be on August 27-28, 2014 at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium.
3. The participants must be at the contest venue at least one (1) hour before the scheduled time of
the contest.
4. Executive Officers from different colleges (excluding the institute officers) are allowed to join
the contests except the assigned tabulation committee representative from the different
colleges.
5. Requirements for registration:
a. Registration form.
b. Certificate of Registration or List of participants duly signed by the dean to validate the
legitimacy of the participants and must be submitted on the given date.
c. Music piece (softcopy)
Vocal Trio (minus one)
Dance Sports
Pop Dance
Wanna Be
6. Registration of participants will start on August 18, 2014 9AM until August 22, 2014 6PM at the
KASAMA Office.
7. The following requirements must be submitted on the moment of registration. Final changes for
the participants, music piece and other requirements will be on August 22, 2014 6PM.
8. Those who were only registered during the given date can only perform during the Cultural
Nights, thus the KASAMA will be asking for the IDs of the participants 1 hour before the
contest proper.
9. All the costumes that will be used during the Cultural Nights must not be vulgar and obscene.
Dance moves that are offensive to religious or ethnic groups are strictly prohibited.
The following will fall in the category of vulgar and obscene:
Backless clothing (for females) that will reveal the natal cleft
Cleavage that reveals too much (female)
Uncovered nipples (female)
Solely wearing underwear for male and female
Wearing miniskirts without cycling
Solely wearing of cycling that reveals the outline of their private body part
(male)
Revealing of underwear.
10. General props are permitted however it should be easily and quickly move to avoid delay of the
next performers.
11. If the performer (s) will be called to perform but have not yet arrived on performing area they
will still be allowed to perform but they will be deducted 2 points per judge.
Note: Late performers will automatically be the last performer(s) of every event.
12. There will be an official timer to record the time the moment of entrance, performance up to the
moment the last performer in a team leaves the stage which will be the cue that the performance
has ended.
13. No dangerous props such as fire or flames including powder, water and other materials that could
pose danger to the performers. Participants shall be responsible for the security of their props.
The event organizers will not be held liable for any lost, damaged, or stolen materials.






14. In case of technical problems, the performers shall not be subject to deduction of points. In the
event of music and/or technical error or any other unexpected event, the Chairman of KASAMAs
Culture and Arts Committee has the right to interrupt the performance and allow the performers
to start again.
15. The General Guidelines apply to all the events for the Cultural Nights.
16. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
17. Deduction of points shall be made by the Chairman of the Board of Tabulators, concurred with
the members duly represented by the participating schools/colleges.
18. In the point System, the college/school with no participants in any respective events will be
considered default and shall earn no points.
19. The KASAMA Culture and Arts Committee Chairman reserves the right to modify, alter, or
amend the above-mentioned rules or waive compliance therewith at his sole discretion if such
steps are in accordance with the purpose of the contest scheme.
20. The decision of the Board of Judges once signed by the Board of Tabulators is final and irrevocable.

























Night of Songs
August 27, 2013

BANDSTORM

Guidelines:
1. The number of participants from each college should be at least five (5) but not to exceed ten
(10) members (instrumentalists and singers combined). Two (2) points will be deducted from the
total score for every member in excess or in deficiency of this provision.
2. Each group is allowed to play two (2) renditions that shall be decided upon by the Colleges/Schools
Executive Council, either in English or in Filipino. To avoid song repetition, a First come, first
serve rule will be applied.
3. The KASAMA Organizing Committee will provide the musical instruments such as drums and
amplifiers ONLY.
4. Total time covering entrance, performance, and exit should not exceed to nine (9) minutes. Total
time that exceeds the time limit is subject to a two-point deduction per minute from each judge.

Criteria for Judging:

OVER-ALL BAND PERFORMANCE 40%
Vocals (20%)
Instrumentation (20%)
INTERPRETATION 20%
MASTERY AND SHOWMANSHIP 20%

CHORAL SINGING
Guidelines

1. The number of participants from each college should be at least fifteen (15) but not to exceed twenty
five (25) members. Two (2) points will be deducted from the total score for every member in
excess or in deficiency of this provision.
2. Each participating group shall render two (2) chosen songs by the Colleges/Schools Executive Council
either in English or in Filipino. The first song must be of solemn nature and the second song must be
upbeat.
3. To avoid song repetition, a First come, first serve rule will be applied.
4. The conductor must be an undergraduate student and is not included in the total count for the
participants from a College/School.
5. Choreography is allowed.
6. Accompaniment of any form of musical instrument/equipment is not allowed.
7. Total time covering entrance, performance, and exit should not exceed to ten (10) minutes. Total
time that exceeds the time limit is subject to a two-point deduction per minute from each judge.

Criteria for Judging:

HARMONY and SYNCHRONIZATION 40%
INTERPRETATION 30%
STAGE PRESENCE 20%
COSTUME 10%

VOCAL TRIO
Guidelines

1. Each participating group shall sing one (1) chosen song only, either in English or Filipino.
2. To avoid song repetition, a First come, first serve rule will be applied.
3. Accompaniments are limited to minus one mp3s only.
4. Total time covering entrance, performance, and exit should not exceed to seven (7) minutes. Total
time that exceeds the time limit is subject to a two-point deduction per minute.

Criteria for Judging:
VOICE QUALITY 60%
Blending (20%)
Balance (20%)
Harmony (20%)
INTERPRETATION AND SHOWMANSHIP 20%
STAGE PRESENCE 10%

NIGHT OF DANCES
AUGUST 28, 2014

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA ON DANCE SPORTS
1. The number of participants from each college shall be limited to one (1) pair only, consisting of a
male and a female.
2. The dances for the International Latin Category are included in the contest, with exception of the
Pasa Doble. Included in the contest are Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha and Jive.
3. The contest which will be done on the Gymnasium floor, shall proceed as follows:
Samba: dance solo (1.5 minutes with the piece chosen by each pair)
Cha-Cha-Cha: dance solo (1.5 minutes with the piece chosen by each pair)
Jive: dance solo (1.5 minutes with the piece chosen by each pair)
Showdown for the entire Latin category for 1.5 minutes with the piece chosen by KASAMA
Organizing COMMITTEE.
4. To avoid repetition of the selection of dance, a First come, first serve rule will be applied.
Note: Deadline of the submission of entries will be on August 22, 2014 6PM.
5. Lifting is allowed in all dances.
6. The participants must wear the appropriate costume as prescribed for International Latin
Dancers. Buttocks and breasts must be covered all throughout the performance.
7. Total time that exceeds the time limit is subject to a two-point deduction per minute from each
judge.
8. Deduction of points shall be made by the Chairman of the Board of Tabulators, concurred with
the members duly represented by the participating Colleges/Schools and in consultation with the
Chairman of the Board of Judges.
9. Provisions written in the General Guidelines are applicable to this event.
10. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
11. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the board of tabulators, is final and irrevocable.

CHOREOGRAPHY 40%
COSTUME 10%

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA ON POP DANCE

1. Each college or school should have a minimum of ten (10) members and a maximum of fifteen
(15) members. Two (2) points shall be deducted per judge score for every member in excess or
in deficiency of this provision.
2. The music piece should be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. Editing and
remixing will be subject to the discretion of the participating college/school.
3. Live accompaniment is not allowed during the performance.
4. The total time covering the entrance, performance and exit should not exceed five (6) minutes.
5. Provisions written in the General Guidelines are applicable to this event.
6. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the board of tabulators, is final and irrevocable.
The criteria for judging are as follows:

(Grace, Stage Presence, Coordination) 35%
CHOREOGRAPHY
(Style and Execution, Formation, Transition) 25%

(Choice of music, costumes and props) 15%

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA ON WANNABE
1. There shall be no limit as to how many performers will participate so long as it will cater the
needs of the performance of each group.
2. Participants should impersonate foreign or local performer(s) and shall perform only one (1)
song chosen on the moment of registration.
3. The music piece should have an official music video and should not exceed 5 minutes and
must not be edited. The total time covering the entrance, performance, and exit should not
exceed to seven (7) minutes.
4. The first college/school to register and at the same time submit their Wanna Be music piece
will be acknowledged. First come, first serve basis will be applied to avoid duplication of music
piece.
5. A lyric of the song that could be vulgar, scandalous, harassing, libelous, and could encourage
negative conduct is strictly PROHIBITED. A copy of the lyrics of the song choice should be
provided during the submission of CORs.
The song choice should not have the following terms:
Fuck
Bullshit
Shit
Motherfucker
Asshole
Note: try to look for the clean version of the song choice or music piece
6. The performance should not be vulgar or obscene.
7. Live accompaniment is not allowed during the performance.
8. Provisions written in the General Guidelines are applicable to this event.
9. Any violation of the above mentioned guidelines shall be subject to a two (2) point deduction
from each judge per violation.
