ae2uate har 3'(4m5 an soft shoulers 3'(6m5 will )e constructe at 4(4 meters away right sie of the
e%isting roa i+ie )y a meian an earthen section( .n the earthen section )etween the two
carriageways- useful trees will )e plante( /ecessary rainage system has )een kept all o+er the roa for

The propose 4-Laning of Dhaka-Chittagong Highway Project 3Daukani-Chittagong :ection5 is a high
priority roa project of the roas an highway epartment 3RHD5 uner ministry of Communications(
=ner the project- a new &-lane highway is planne to )e constructe at the right sie of the e%isting &-
lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway to make a 4-lane highway to increase roa transport efficiency with the
commercial port city of Chittagong( .t will reuce se+ere traffic ha8ar uring the pick hour of traffic( After
implementation of the project- it will impro+e the optimum utili8ation of the port at Chittagong( The e%isting
&-lane roa now has )ecome inae2uate to accommoate the growing high A+erage Annual Daily Traffic
3AADT5 flow- causing fre2uent accients an creating se+ere traffic jam throughout the whole length of
the roa( The traffic +olume has now increase to a)out 46-666 PC=>Day at some locations(

Roas an Highways Department took up a project of 4-Laning of this roa from Dhaka at #m 6 to #m
!"(6 at Daukani( The work of this project has alreay )een complete successfully within two an half
years( The )us an truck association has appreciate this work( Aith the successful completion of the
newly constructe section from Dhaka to Daukani( Roas an Highways Department has proceee to
construct a 4-lane roa at the rest of the section from Daukani to Chittagong at Alanker Cinema Hall
co+ering a length of 194 #m(

The main o)jecti+e of this project is to increase efficiency of roa transport through upgraing of Dhaka-
Chittagong highway 3Daukani-Chittagong :ection5 from e%isting &-Lane to 4-Lane( The project
incluesB 3a5 to e+elop an ae2uate an efficient transport link )etween capital Dhaka with Port City of
Chittagong to impro+e economic e+elopment for e%pansion an integration of local markets an growth
of international trae( The impro+ement of this important corrior will ensure significant economic an
social )enefits to south-eastern region through generation of employment- creating impro+e trae an
trae facilities- promotion of social integration an e+elopment of tourism( .t will also ensure economic
