THE BIBLE AND THE
DEAD SEA SCROLLS

One of the greatest discoveries in cen-
turies was the hidden scrolls in the
Judean desert. What were their
meaning for our Bible?. What did the
scrolls tell us about the tme of Jesus?
What, if any, changes were made in
the Bible due to the discovery of the
scrolls. These and other topics will be
uncovered.

The class begins Sunday, August 3rd and will contnue for the next
three weeks. Rev. James Logan will teach the class. He has trav-
elled to Israel numerous tmes. The class will meet in Room l
startng at 10:07.
Children Worship and Wonder
During August we will begin welcoming our Children Worship and Won-
der program to the sanctuary. This program is designed to help children
learn about the ways and manners in which we worship as well as the
traditons of our faith. There will be parts our worship that parallel and
others when we will join together. Please be sure to welcome our chil-
dren when you see them on Sunday morning!

Children Worship and Wonder is a program designed for ages 3 through
2nd grade. We welcome parents and those who want to learn more
about this wonderful program to join us during our orientaton sessions
August 10-31.
Educaton Opportunites in August
Musings from a Desert Sojourn:
I used to think that a year was almost eternal in length. Birthdays would span for what seemed like forever.
My perspectve has changed Especially afer having children, I blink and another year has passed. With that
new reality in mind, I want to bring to our atenton two impending events, AZ Regional Assembly (in Tucson -
Fall 2014) and the General Assembly of the DOC (in Columbus- Summer 2015). Below we placed small blurbs
about each event. I hope that Saguaro can represent the church at each of these events. Like the recent
womens retreat to Atlanta, there is great beneft to sharing in the larger life and directon of the Church.
Please reach out to the ofce if you are interested in either event.

Plans for the 2015 General Assembly are underway! The theme, "Soar!" is based on Isaiah 40. Comfort, preparation, call, chal-
lenge all are contained in this single chapter. And there is also the promise of fresh strength to SOAR!
Visit the General Assembly web site to learn more about the theme, explore housing options, and learn more about the Co-
lumbus, Ohio area. And check back often online registration opens in July, 2014.

BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK
The Backpack Program for Bloom Elementary School
will be resuming about the middle of August. School
begins on July 31, and fyers will go out to the parents
of eligible children soon afer school starts. We will be
making our frst purchase of food for the backpacks the
second week of August. Our church has been so sup-
portve of this program, and we are very proud of our
partcipaton in feeding children for the week-
end. Once again we are asking for your fnancial
help. Last year, $80.00 would feed a child for a
year. The cost of groceries has gone up this year, and
we now are spending $90.00 a year for each child. But,
we are grateful for any amount that you can do-
nate. We do not know how many children we will be
feeding this year, but we are planning on 100 children
which would cost $9,000.00 for the year. You can
make a check out to Saguaro Christan Church wrote
Bloom School Tucson, AZ on the memo line, or if you
want to give directly, the address is: Blessings in a
Backpack Lockbox, P.O. Box 950291, Louisville, KY
