Project Description:
Common Internet File System (CIFS) is an enhanced version of the Microsoft Server Message Block (SMB)
protocol designed to overcome the built-in restrictions of SMB. CIFS is an inter operable mechanism for a
client system to request file access from a server system in a network regardless of the underlying operating
system platforms of the respective systems. SMB/CIFS allows client systems of Windows environments to
access files on NAS appliances and gateway systems.
SUN StorEdgetek NAS 53X0 acts as a CIFS Server and the different windows machine are the clients.
The various CIFS Server features I have worked on are:
1. Active Directory Services.
2. Auto home Shares.
3. Basic ACL.
4. Built-in Groups.
5. Credential Mapping.
6. CIFS File Locking.
7. Directory Change Notification.
8. Dos Attributes.
9. NT LAN Manager V2
10. NTFS Streams.
11. Multi Master Domain.
12. Take Ownership.
Project #2 : SUN StroEdge 53x0 NAS Cluster Functionality & In-Band RAID Management
Project Description:
A cluster appliance includes a pair of active-active servers, sometimes called heads, that share access to the
redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controllers and several different networks. The RAID
controllers are connected to each server through Fibre Channel controllers. In normal operation, each server
operates independently, with responsibility of logical unit numbers (LUNs). If one server suffers a hardware
failure that renders a data path unavailable, the working server automatically takes ownership of Internet
Protocol (IP) addresses and LUNs formerly managed by the failed server. All operations of the failed server,
including RAID volume ownership and network interface addressing, are transferred to the working server.
In-Band Raid Management project describes the different scenarios for creation/deletion of LUNS.
For example , File volume can be created along with the creation of luns, and can also be created /deleted
when lun is in different states which includes critical, copy-back, rebuild and failed state.
Project Description:
The CIFS protocol (a.k.a. SMB) is the natural file sharing protocol on Microsoft Windows machines, and is
implemented by Samba on UNIX/Linux. This project delivered a standard Solaris virtual file system that
implements a CIFS client, which provides access to files and directories on CIFS servers. When using the
CIFS client, users can mount remote CIFS server shares on their Solaris system to get read-write access with
ordinary Unix applications
Project Description:
The Sun Storage 7xxx Unified Storage products provide efficient file and block data services to clients over a
network, and a rich set of data services that can be applied to the data stored on the system
The various features which I worked on are:
• Upgrade the appliance to and higher build and rollback to the lower build while the appliance is
stressed with all mixed ios.
• Execute the automated test suite like CIFS protocol, nfs protocol and ldap test suits.
• Cluster Functionality.
• Handling various major, minor and micro builds. Micro builds has a turnaround time of 24 hours.
• Managing the Unified storage product through Microsoft management console.
• Enhancing the test cases and filling the test gaps based on costumer escalations.
• Remote replications
• Nested mount points.
Project Description:
Brocade produces FC SAN switches and develops the necessary system software. In this module an ACL
Policies is enforced in the switches present in a fabric. The switches can only remain in the fabric and
communicate with each other if and only if they are member of same policy otherwise they will be
disconnected from the fabric. This is achieved by disabling the E-port of the non-member switch. There are
two types Switch Connection Control (SCC) and Device Connection Control (DCC) policies. Through this
we achieve enhanced security by allowing only the policy member switches to remain in the fabric..
Project Description:
Fibre Channel Over IP (FCIP) describes the mechanisms that allow multiple local or remote Fibre Channel
SANs to be interconnected over an IP network backbone. FCIP is a tunneling protocol that uses TCP/IP as
the transport while keeping Fibre Channel services intact. By combining IP networking with SAN
technology, it allows us to extend the interconnectivity of SANs across much longer distances
I hereby do solemnly affirm that the details furnished above are true to the best of my knowledge.
