THE EMERGING PLAYER ON

THE GLOBAL SUGAR ARENA

Koppa plant of NSL Sugars
VISION
We aspire to be one of Asias top 3 sugar players,
pursuing opportunities in India and globally,
driven by our entrepreneurial vision,
agri-business expertise and technology,
growing organically and inorganically,
building scale,and thereby delivering profits,which
are among the highest in the industry.
OVERVIEW
lives, and contribute most effectively to Indias
economic development.
Our vision is to make a major thrust in this
sector, where we can leverage our Groups
competitive edge: our in-depth knowledge
of agriculture and understanding of the
agricultural community. This way, we believe,
we can help create opportunities, upgrade skills,
improve income levels, widen vision-horizons
and generally help bring about the level of
inclusion that is imperative for the Indian
economy in the long-term.
Today, within a span of seven years, we are
already looked up to as one of the leading
players in the Indian sugar market. Our award-
winning Koppa plant is benchmarked by the
industry for its technology, productivity, as well
as financial performance. We have also made a
significant impact on the communities we serve:
the sugar farmers whom we interact with,
directly or indirectly, as well as other service
providers, such as harvesters, transporters, and
contractors.
Yet, this is just the beginning. Our goal is
to be a truly global sugar player. Within the
Indian market, we will have a pan-Indian
footprint rather than regional footprint. But
more importantly, we are looking at large-
scale opportunities in markets like South
America and Africa. And we aim to address
these markets with the full range of our
Groups agri-business strengths, which can
augment and complement our sugar play.
NSL Sugars was set up in 2003 as a result of,
firstly, our Groups deep knowledge of the agri-
business sector built over nearly forty years, and
secondly, our belief that we can play the role
of a game-changer in the Indian sugar industry,
through our entrepreneurial skills, state-of-the-
art technology, the size of our vision and the
scale of resources with which we can back
that vision.
Our strategy is to have global operations,
complementing our Indian business, and vice
versa, and sourcing, refining and marketing
sugar, whenever the cycles bring us the best
opportunities.
Integrated sugar plants
We are focussing on state-of-the-art integrated
plants producing sugar, green power and
Ethanol. Thus we are able to diversify and
maximise our revenue base, giving us the
leverage to maintain a balance between product
lines, reflecting market conditions, and ensuring
optimal viability at all times. In addition to
these, we are also adding value to co-products
such as press mud, Methane, spent wash and
C02 which will further enhance our business
model. All this is part of our Groups thrust in
Looking at the future
We are looking to increase our capacity
aggressively in the near term. By 2015 we are
aiming for a total global capacity of:
the agri-industry and rural sector, where we
are investing `35 billion, because this is where
we believe we can impact the largest number of

CARING FOR THE

ENVIRONMENT
Given our agro heritage, we are a deeply
environmentally conscious company, and
have invested in the latest environment
friendly technologies:
A state-of-the-art EffluentTreatment
Plant. The treated effluent is used for
irrigation by the surrounding farmers,
as well as for maintaining the green belt
area around our plant
A treatment plant for treating and
recycling excess condensate water, to
reduce the quantum of effluent for
treatment.This facilitates further
zero-discharge and reduces demand on
water intake
Highly efficient use of fuel in the
boilers and ESP, to help control air
pollution
A state-of-the-art spraying and drying
unit to help achieve zero-discharge
from the Ethanol plant and control
environmental pollution
A comprehensive greening project
of the area surrounding the plant, as
well as wherever space opportunities
present themselves
By implementing strict Air Pollution
Control measures, we have entered
into a Clean Development Mechanism
and carbon credit agreement with
international organisations such as the
United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change.This not only contributes
to the companys financials, but also to
Indias foreign exchange earnings.
Innovating bio-fertilisers
As part of our environmental programme,
we now scientifically process our waste
matter - the press mud from our sugar
plant and the spent wash from our
distillery - and blend them to create a
high-quality bio-compost.This is then
further enriched with bio-NPK and other
nutrients and offered to farmers under
the Bhagya Bhoomi brand to meet their
organic manure requirements, thereby
reducing the need for using chemical
fertilizers, with their possible harmful
side-effects.
To take this concept forward, we also
produceVermi-Compost using our Bio-
Compost as the base and offer it under
the Dhanya Dharthi brand. Both these
organic products have been very well
received by the farming community, and
we will be scaling up the production in
the future.
