Nearly 50% PHCs did not have a Boyles Apparatus, over 35% did not have
medicines for anesthesia, 10% did not have facilities for neonatal resuscitation and
15%didnothaveababywarmerorincubator.

INTRODUCTION
TheDistrictLevelHouseholdFacilitySurveyisanationwidesurveythatcovers601districts
from 34 states of India. The third round of the District Level Household and Facility Survey
(DLHS-3)carriedoutduring2007-08wasdesignedtocollectdataatdistrictlevelonvarious
aspectsofhealthcareutilizationforReproductive&ChildHealth(RCH)andtoprovideRCH
outcomeindicatorsatthedistrictlevel.

A population linked health care facility survey was conducted in DLHS-3. All Community
HealthCentres(CHCs)andtheDistrictHospitals(DH)werecoveredatthedistrictlevel.All
Sub-Centres and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) expected to serve the population of
selected PSU were also covered. The average sampled rural population served per Sub-
Centre,PHCandCHCinAndhraPradeshare10,702;48,110and1,37,650respectively.In
all 846 villages were surveyed in Andhra Pradesh as part of the DLHS-3 and the RCH
services of these sampled villages were catered by 885 Sub-Centres, 646 PHCs and 162
CHCs.

Thisfactsheetpresentstheoverallperformanceandcapacityofthe646PHCswithrespect
tomaternalandchildhealthservicesforthestateofAndhraPradesh.
