As the years steadily pass by, Im amazed at
how much more quickly the summers seem to
pass. Just a few weeks ago, the Wayne Trace
Local Schools bid farewell to the exceptonal
Class of 2014. Now we excitedly antcipate the
2014-2015 school year, as the Class of 2015
becomes this years seniors, and the students of
the Class of 2027 begin their kindergarten year. I
can stll remember the day my own children
began kindergarten and fathom at how quickly
those years passed, most of them with many
great memories. I hope that you, too, have fond
memories of your children beginning their frst
days of school and even beter memories of their
accomplishments and occasional trials and tribu-
latons throughout their thirteen years of public
educaton. Enjoy each day. But more impor-
tantly, please help to play a crucial role in the
overall educatonal experience of your children
by getng involved in school events, developing a
professional relatonship with your childrens
teachers, and contactng the appropriate school
personnel with questons and concerns. As Ive
stated many tmes before, a childs educaton is a
collectve efort between school and home.
Actve communicaton is of the utmost im-
portance.
School begins for students on Wednesday,
August 20, 2014. Now that summer is coming to
a close and school is right around the corner, we
hope that all students, as well as their parents,
have had an enjoyable summer with fun and
relaxaton with family and friends.
Parents new to the district should contact the
building principal(s) for informaton about enrol-
ling their child(ren) in school. If you arent
certain which elementary school your child will
atend, contact the central ofce (419-263-2415)
for that informaton.
The Ohio Department of Educaton is expected
to release its school district and school building
report cards in the next few weeks. Districts and
buildings will receive leter grades for achieve-
ment and gap closing, but no overall leter grades
will be issued. As we await this informaton, Id
like to once again thank our administratve team
and our faculty for their eforts in teaching the
state content standards, while also becoming
familiar with the changing content standards.
Were also working diligently on the mater of
Student Learning Outcomes, which become part
of the teacher evaluaton system startng with
this upcoming school year. Our Race to the Top
transformaton team spent a great deal of tme
the past two school years introducing SLOs to
our faculty with the goal of having these
measures in place by this fall. As Ive stated
many tmes before, the manner in which our
students are taught/tested and the system for
grading our schools is rapidly changing. At
Wayne Trace, we are contnuing to work to stay
ahead of the curve with the goal of bringing the
best educaton possible to the students of our
great school district.
Once again, we anxiously await the upcoming
school year and hope that your students are
ready to go on August 20. We also hope that you
are able to come to our school buildings and
enjoy several extra-curricular/co-curricular
events ofered to the Wayne Trace students each
year. Your contnued support is much appre-
ciated.
As always, if you have questons or concerns
about your childs educatonal experience at
Wayne Trace, feel free to contact your building
principal or superintendent.
Go Raiders!

ton is required each school year.

Laurie DeLong, Director of Student Services
We would like to remind parents of incoming
kindergarteners and incoming 7th graders of the
required immunizatons for school. If a child is
current, he/she will need the DTap, Polio, MMR,
and chickenpox vaccinatons. Hepatts A is avail-
able, but not mandatory for children this age.
Seventh grade students are required to have a
Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) immun-
izaton before the start of the 2014-2015 school
year. Immunizatons may be scheduled with your
family physician or at the Paulding County Health
Department.
For any questons regarding immunizatons,
Litle Raider Preschools, or the Special Educaton

WT PAYNE ELEMENTARY
Jody L. Dunham, Principal
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! The
staf is excited to meet our new students and
welcome back the returning students to WTPE!
Over the summer, our teachers have taken
advantage of atending workshops and trainings.
Teachers use this tme as an opportunity to begin
their planning for the new school year. Some of
the workshops atended included a Technology
Summit and Mentor Teacher Training.
We are thrilled to announce that students in
Grades 3-6 will have access to laptops in their
classrooms this school year. Laptops will be used
daily for research and class assignments. The
laptops will be for school day use only and will
not be sent home with students.
When you enter the building this year, you will
notce that the six restrooms in the original struc-
ture of our building have been updated. The
restrooms have been painted, sinks repaired and
the ceramic foor tle grout has been repainted.
We wish to thank the WT High School Student
Council for freshening the landscape in the front
of the building. We have also reseeded the grass
area behind the ofce.
Our summer custodial staf has worked hard
waxing foors, replacing light bulbs, scrubbing
mini blinds and sweeping out the heatng/AC
units in each classroom. We appreciate their
hard work and dedicaton to providing our staf
and students with a clean and healthy learning
environment.
We welcome the following new staf members
to our building: Mrs. Susan CarrCross Categori-
cal Classroom Aide, Mrs. Rachel Hire-Transitonal
Kindergarten Teacher, Miss Carly Lichtensteiger-
Grades 4-6 Resource Room Teacher, Miss Ashley
Liebrecht-Third Grade Teacher, Mr. Kenneth Ogle
-Art Teacher, and Miss Louise Vranesevic-Music
Teacher.
Beginning on Monday, August 4, our ofce will
be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you would
like to register a student, please come to the
school or give us a call at 419-238-2512, opton 4.
Open House will be on Tuesday, August 19, from
5:00-6:30 p.m. This is an excellent tme to meet
your childs teacher, bring in school supplies and
pay fees. We look forward to seeing you that
evening! School begins for students on Wednes-
day, August 20.
Here are a few reminders as we get ready to
start the new school year. The frst bell rings at
8:30 a.m. Those students who walk or are
brought to school may enter the building begin-
ning at 8:20 a.m. Students may enter through
the cafeteria or the front doors. At the end of
the day, students in Grades 1-6, who walk or are

doors of the three story building at 3:05. Kinder-
garten will be picked up at the east set of doors
of the three story building at 3:10. For safety
purposes, those who are picked up will need to
have the responsible adult come into the building
to sign out their student.

WT GROVER HILL ELEMENTARY
Kevin Wilson, Principal
I hope that you have been enjoying the summer.
Soon it will be tme to welcome back to school
the frst through sixth grade students along with
a new and I am sure excited group of pre-school
and kindergarten students.
We will be in the ofce startng Monday, August
4
th
, from 8:00 to 3:00 untl school begins. This is
a good tme to stop in for a visit so that we can
answer any school related questons you might
have or to just sit down and get acquainted.
Probably one of the biggest changes for this
year is that our students will be spending more
tme completng class work with the assistance of
computers. With the changes to the state assess-
ments, the use of computers for testng is now
required. Our teachers will be working with the
students to make sure they are ready for this
computer test. Our plan is to have every student
in grades 4-6 carry a computer with them during
the school day. This is a very excitng tme for
these students and as a staf we will be monitor-
ing their use very closely to ensure the comput-
ers are adding to the students educaton.
You will notce several new staf members in the
Grover Hill Elementary Building. At this tme I
would like to introduce the new staf members.
They are: Mrs. Wendy Baker, fourth grade Sci-
ence and Social Studies, Mrs. Elyse (Myers) Boyer
fourth grade Math and Reading/Language Arts,
Mr. Ken Ogle, Art at both Payne Elementary and
Grover Hill Elementary, Ms. Tami AuFance,
grades 4-6 interventon specialist, Miss Elizabeth
Motycka, grades K-3 interventon specialist, and
Miss Angela Manz, Title I. Please help us wel-
come each of these new teachers to the WTGH
family.
We are holding our annual Open House at
WTGH on Tuesday, August 19, from 5:00 untl
6:30. This night is a great opportunity to meet
the teachers and to bring in your childs school
supplies, pay school fees, and put money on their
lunch account.
During this years Open House we will be hold-
ing a meetng for all parents of 3
rd
grade stu-
dents. This will be an informatonal meetng
beginning at 6:00 in the WTGH gym. We will be
discussing the Third Grade Guarantee and how
it can impact your child. If you are unable to
atend but would like to have informaton
concerning the Third Grade Guarantee, please

Dear Friends of the Paulding Exempted Village
Schools,
The 2014-2015 school year is just around the cor-
ner with opening day for students on August 25
th
.
The custodians and transportation staff have been
busy preparing the buildings and busses for the
upcoming school year and their hard work is ap-
preciated. Open house for all buildings will be
Thursday, August 21
st
. We invite everyone to
stop in, tour the buildings, meet new staff mem-
bers, as well as visit with returning staff.
Beginning with this school year, this district
newsletter will be published quarterly instead of
monthly as in the past. It will follow the 9 week
quarters of the school calendar, so please notice
the 3 month schedules listed. The principals will
have a monthly newsletter on the school website
at www.pauldingschools.org on their respective
home page.
Community support and communication is a vital
part of any successful school district, and I look
forward to working with our communities and stu-
dents again this year to continue strengthening the
education we provide at Paulding Exempted Vil-
lage Schools. Please feel free to contact me at
w_hanak@pauldingschools.org or 419-399-4656

Thank you,
William D. Hanak, Superintendent

DELAY /CLOSING ANNOUNCEMENTS
School is delayed or closed for bad weather be-
cause of concern for student safety. The Superin-
tendent and Support Services Supervisor check
weather conditions every school morning. If fog
(which can develop late), snow or ice makes the
bus turnarounds and routes too dangerous, school
is delayed or closed.
The Paulding Exempted Village Schools use a
two-hour delay and three-hour delay, and then, if
necessary, close. The delay provides time for the
weather conditions to change. The Honeywell
Instant Alert System will be our primary method
of communication on school delays and cancella-
tions. The system is ready for you to use at
https://instantalert.honeywell.com. We encour-
age all of you to take advantage of this opportu-
nity, as we will be utilizing this system to contact
parents and students for most of our school-to-
home communication, including notification of
emergencies or early dismissals. The announce-
ment is also put on the website, switchboard an-
swering machine and area radio/TV stations. The
school website address is: pauldingschools.org.
The announcement is normally called into radio/
TV stations by 6:00 a.m., though fog can cause a
later call.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PRICES
Elementary MS/HS
Breakfast-$1.35 Breakfast-$1.60
Lunch-$2.35 Lunch-$2.60
Salad/Panther Plate-$2.95
Extra milk is $.35 for all students.

NOTICE FOR ABSENCE
The districts attendance policy asks that a parent
telephone the school by 9:00 a.m. on the day a
student will be absent. Also, a note must accom-
pany a student on the day of his return to school,
noting the reason for absence.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
The No Child Left Behind Act encourages par-
ents to be actively involved in the education of
your child. All parents have the right to know the
teaching qualifications of their childs classroom
teacher. Information made be obtained by con-
tacting the principal in your childs building or by
accessing the Ohio Department of Education web-
site at http://webapp2.ode.state.oh.us/core/. The
Ohio PIRC (Parent Information and Resource
Center) is also a valuable resource with ideas for
getting involved in your childs education. The
Ohio PIRC may be contacted at 1-866-253-1829,
or visit their website at http://www.ohiopirc.org/
index.php.

cy of this District to provide an equal opportunity
for all students, regardless of race, color, creed,
disability, religion, gender, ancestry, age, national
origin, military status, ancestry, place of residence

Education prohibits the use, possession, conceal-
ment, or distribution of drugs by students on
school grounds, in school or school-approved

dangerous controlled substance as defined by
State statute, or substance that could be consid-
ered a "look-a-like" controlled substance. Com-
pliance with this policy is mandatory for all stu-
dents. Any student who violates this policy will
be subject to disciplinary action, in accordance
with due process and as specified in the student
handbooks, up to and including expulsion from
school. When required by State law, the District
will also notify law enforce-ment officials.
The District is concerned about any student who
is a victim of alcohol or drug abuse and will facil-

In order to have our newsletter delivered to every
household in the district, we will be publishing it
in the Weekly Reminder this year. If you would
like to receive a newsletter by email, you may
sign up electronically by sending an email to
newsletter-subscribe@antwerpschools.org. Your
email should be blank; no message is necessary.
You will get a reply with simple instructions to
complete your registration. We will also email
the menu with the newsletter.

The 2014-2015 school year is just around the
corner with opening day for students on August
19. The custodians and transportation staff have
been busy preparing the building and buses for
the upcoming school year and their hard work is
appreciated. With the building being 10 years
old, it was time to start painting and completing
maintenance tasks that were not necessary in
previous years. All the buses passed inspection
and are ready to go. We also purchased one new
bus this summer and a Microbird to replace an
aging van.

We launched our Facebook page last spring and it
promises to be a great method to keep you in-
formed of events in the district. If you havent
already done so, go to facebook.com/
antwerpschools to LIKE us. Another important
method of communication is our Honeywell In-
stant Alert. Please take a moment to be sure
your contact information is correct if you have a
child in school. This is our primary means of
communication during emergency situations. If
you do not want to receive all alerts, please sub-
scribe to High Importance Alerts for the few
alerts that warrant that designation.

Open House for all buildings will be on August
18 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. We invite everyone to
stop in, tour the building, meet new staff mem-
bers, as well as visit with returning staff. New
staff members include: Wade Sisson, High
School Science; Chad Schindler, Preschool; Shari
Owusu-Safo, Elementary Intervention; Areli
Reutter, Spanish; and Ryan Zuber, High School
Science. With the retirement of Marilyn Mills,
Denise Coleman will move to the Middle School/
High School secretary position. We welcome
Greta Kosch as our new Elementary Secretary.

Community support is a vital part of any success-
ful school district, and I look forward to working
with our community again this year to continue
strengthening the education we provide at Ant-
werp Local Schools.

LUNCH PROGRAM
Again this year students may participate in the
Free and Reduced Lunch program. Letters are
being sent to families who have children who are
pre-qualified for the program. Those families do
not need to fill out the application for the pro-
gram. If you did not receive a letter and want
your child to participate, please fill out the appli-
cation form the first week of school. Forms will
be given to all students, and will also be available
at Open House. Lunch prices this year are $2.50
for PK-5, $2.75 for 6-12, and $1.50 for breakfast
(all grades). Extra milk is .50.

OPEN HOUSE
Student fees may be paid (all students), and
deposits into lunch accounts may be made at
Open House on August 18, from 5:00-6:30.
MR. MANZ-ELEMENTARY
It is hard to believe that a new school year is
almost upon us as another summer draws to a
close. Hopefully, everyone is having a wonder-
ful, relaxing, safe summer and you are looking
forward to another great school year. The
maintenance crew has done an excellent job
cleaning and repairing classrooms and hallways
in the elementary, and has it looking great as we
prepare to begin a new year. There are many
exciting things to look forward to as well as some
changes.

There have been several changes to our teaching
staff over the summer. Miss Engel was married
during the summer, and is now Mrs. George.
Congratulations to both her and her husband. She
also moved from kindergarten to the 1st grade to
replace Mrs. Grindstaff who retired. Mrs.
Georges kindergarten position was then filled by
Mrs. Kennedy who moved there from Preschool.
We are pleased to welcome Mr. Chad Schindler
who will teach in our Preschool. Mr. Schindler is
coming to us after working for the Northwest
Ohio Education Service Center as a preschool
teacher last year. Mr. Schindler has had lots of
experience in many different classroom settings,
and we feel that he will do an excellent job for us.
Please help him feel welcome, and show him
what a great community we have here.

This year we will be switching the order of recess
and lunch. In the past, the students would go to
lunch and then out to recess. This year, we will
be experimenting with having the students go to
recess first, and then to lunch. Studies have
shown that students who participate in recess
before they go to lunch eat more of their lunch,
drink more of their milk, are better behaved at
lunch, are not as likely to feel sick in the after-
noon, are more attentive in class, and are better
behaved in the afternoon. Since this is something
new, we will make changes as needed to best
implement this change.

Once again our elementary students did an excel-
lent job on the Spring OAA testing, with the fol-
lowing percentage of students either proficient or
above:
3rd Grade Reading100%
3rd Grade Math92%
4th Grade Reading93%
4th Grade Math76%
5th Grade Reading85%
5th Grade Math73%
5th Grade Science96%
Congratulations to all of our students and our
teachers on a job well done!

MR. BUTE - HS/MS
As the summer winds down and we prepare for
the 2014-2015 school year, we are focusing on
the essentials in education. Again this year, I will
emphasize the importance of
ACCOUNTABILITY to our students. Stu-
dents understanding the philosophy of taking
responsibility for their actions plays a vital role in
preparing them for successful futures. There are
a few policies that will be emphasized to the stu-
dents and I ask for your help and support in these
areas as well: wireless communication devices,
dress code, bullying, public display of affection,
and attendance. Working together, we can pro-
vide a structured learning environment that pro-
motes student success.

I am excited to inform you that Antwerp Middle
School (grades 6-8) will be in its second year of
the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). This
is a prestigious organization that will help estab-
lish and expand on our focus of academic and
social performance. The members of the NJHS
will strengthen their abilities to use their skills to
improve society around them. This prestigious
membership is not a right, but a privilege. Stu-
dents must meet certain criteria to be eligible for
this organization and will receive an information-
al brochure on the first day of school.
SCHEDULE PICKUP
High School students may pick up their schedules
beginning Monday, August 11, from 8:00-3:00.
Beginning on Wednesday, August 13, Middle
school students may begin picking up their sched-
ules during regular office hours, 8:00-3:00. Fees
may be paid at pickup time. Students are remind-
ed that school officially begins at 7:50 a.m. on
Tuesday, August 19, 2014.

SIXTH GRADERS
Incoming sixth graders are encouraged to attend
the Open House on Monday, August 18 from
5:00-6:30 p.m. Again, there will be no separate
sixth grade orientation. Open House will give
the sixth graders an opportunity to find their lock-
ers, practice unlocking their lockers, place sup-
plies needed in their lockers, and determine
where your classrooms are located. Basic sup-
plies for sixth graders would include a separate
folder and spiral notebook for each class (6-8) as
well as pencils. You may use a 3-ring binder
organizing system if you choose. If there are
additional items needed for class, the teachers
will let you know on the first day.

DRUG TESTING FOR ATHLETES
Drug testing for student athletes has been ap-
proved by the Antwerp Board of Education.
Each high school athlete will be required to go
through a drug test before each season that he/she
participates in a sport. Additionally, athletes may
be randomly selected during each playing season
for drug testing. There will be no charge to the
student or parent for this mandatory drug testing.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Rules and regulations for extracurricular partici-
pants apply the full calendar year (365 days).
Participants shall NOT use tobacco products in
any form, drink intoxicating beverages, or mis-
use/abuse any drugs or medication. Violations of
these rules-regulations carry the penalties as out-
lined in the athletic handbook.

Tickets prices for the 2014-2015 season games
will remain the same: Football & Boys Basket-
ball, presale $5.00 per adult or $3.00 per student,

Girls Basketball, adults $5.00, students $3.00.

extra items for our athletic teams which the
school cannot afford to purchase. To help our
athletes, the Athletic Booster Club welcomes
your financial support. Your donation of $10 or
more per family will qualify you as a patron
member in the athletic program. Please send
your donation to: ANTWERP ATHLETIC
BOOSTERS, 303 S. Harrmann Rd., Antwerp,
OH 45813, or give it to a Booster officer by
Friday, August 15. List names exactly as you
want them to appear on the patron page. (Ex: Mr.
