YouTube Friday

On YouTube Fridays, students will find physics related videos that we can check out in class. You
will then recreate/reconstruct what you saw in the video. You will also do any
calculations/measurements to help explain to your audience how and why your phenomena
happened. When you succeed in your re-creation, you will make a video of the event to display on
the class website, more specifically the YouTube Friday blog under the physics tab. I will edit your
videos, but if you are interested in that process you are more than welcome to help.

In addition to the video, students will be required to research the event and write one to five
paragraphs on the how and why these events occur. This information will be displayed below the
video. Blog information must be well written and free of errors.

Students, please keep in mind your audience when writing your blog. Teachers, parents, and
other students will be reading your blog post. Keep your blogs classy, but at the same time they
should be informative and slightly entertaining.

Groups should be 1 to 5 people. When assembling your teams, think about individual strengths
that you possess or interests you may want to develop. You may be a part of multiple parts of the
production process.

You may want someone that is good at building things.
Someone that is a strong writer for your blog.
Someone that is good on screen (you will be making your own videos after all).
Someone into videography, being creative as a camera person.
Someone who is a strong leader and can keep everyone in check. For example: calling
everyone in the group to make sure they bring their materials.
Everyone needs to be involved in the research/written component, as well as the
calculations/measurements part of the production.

Deadlines
All week/anytime Students can and should bring in the names of videos at anytime during the
week so we can build a library of videos to use.

Monday students will choose the video that they would like recreate.

Wednesday Students collect all the materials needed for their video and bring it in by
Wednesday.

Fridays Once the teams have chosen their videos and all materials have been collected, this
will be our production day.

Tuesday - Blog information should be typed and emailed to the teacher by the following.

Wednesday so it can be edited by the teacher and sent back to the student. Final corrections
should then be made and e-mailed back to the teacher by Friday.

Parts of Production

- Video Component -

+ Captured the necessary clips to create a great video
+ Included background Music appropriate for school & video (please keep it upbeat)
+ Include calculations and measurements in the video
+ Step by step procedure detail enough to where a stranger could recreate the event
+ Creativity points finding ways to make the video a little more interesting

- Research/Written Component -

+ Step by step procedure unless included in the video
+ Explanation- the physics behind the magic
+ Any warnings for views who may want to recreate what you did
+ Peer edited once by another student or parent (not in physics class) another by a
teacher. Editors must sign their John Hancock.

- Calculations/Measurements Component -

+ You need to include some form of physics related calculations/measurements in your
video you will explain these calculations to your viewers in the video.
+ The format hand written and explained on a piece of paper like the MythBusters.

+ Below is a link that shows many, not all physic related formulas you may use.

Physics calculations
YouTube Friday requires a commitment to the production, outside of the regular classroom.
If you are not prepared to make a commitment of this magnitude, I strongly recommend you
not take physics.

*Meet the man behind the blueprint drawings for the
MythBusters, Eric Haven. Just the drawings, not the
voice.

*Your drawings or calculations dont need to be artist
quality, clear enough that your viewer can
understand.
