HYMNs OF PRAISE
7:30 a.m. 11:00 a.m.
DRAW ME NeARER Down at the cross
Verse I Verse I
I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice Down at the cross where my Savior died,
And it told Thy love to me; Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
But I long to rise in the arms of faith, There to my heart was the blood applied;
And be closer drawn to Thee Singin’ Glory to His name

Chorus Chorus
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, Blessed Lord, I’m singin’ Glory to His name, precious name, Glory
To the cross where Thou hast died; to His name, precious name
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord, There to my heart was the blood applied;
To Thy precious bleeding side. Singin’ Glory to His name

Verse II Verse II
Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord, I am so wondrously saved from sin,
By the pow’r of grace divine; Jesus so sweetly abides within;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, There at the cross where He took me in;
And my will be lost in Thine. Singin’ Glory to His name
(Repeat chorus) (Repeat chorus)

Verse III Verse III

O, the pure delight of a single hour Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin,
that before Thy throne I spend, When I am so glad I have entered in;
I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God, There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean;
I commune as friend with Friend! Singin’ Glory to His name
(Repeat chorus) (Repeat chorus)

Verse IV Verse IV
There are depths of love that I cannot know Come to this fountain so rich and sweet,
Till I cross the narrow sea; Cast thy poor soul at the Savior’s feet;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach Plunge in today, and be made complete;
Till I rest in peace with Thee. Singin’ Glory to His name
(Repeat chorus) (Repeat chorus)

Stewardship: Off and running

Have you ever seen a pancake race? They’re popular in many small towns,
and even some big cities. Contestants line up, each carrying a frying pan
with a single pancake. They sprint toward the finish line, flipping the pan-
cake at least three times as they run. (The pancake must not be dropped.)
Most often, pancake races are held on Shrove Tuesday, the last day before
Lent begins. Many of them are held near a church. It is said that the ori-
gin of the race was in the Middle Ages, when a woman heard the church,
forgetting that she was making pancakes. She reached the church with the
frying pan still in her hand.
She heard the call and her thoughts (and steps) immediately were directed
toward the church. Maybe that is one reason why pancake races are still
held today. Of course, they’re fun to watch and to participate in. But the
underlying message is that we must respond to God’s call at once, despite
our other activities. God calls for our time, to volunteer to teach Sunday
school, for example. Similarly, calls for our treasure, to pay for food for the
hungry. Finally, God calls for our talent, to inspire others to devote their
lives to him.
It may seem odd to link a forgotten frying pan to stewardship today. Yet
God’s call for stewardship has never ceased. Our response should match
that woman’s so long ago (in enthusiasm, though not absent-minded-
ness).

Your Friends in Service,

The Stewardship Ministry
