Lenten Meditation #7
Palm Sunday
LIVING THE GOOD LIFE
Daring To Feel Joy
A good life should include joy and
satisfaction. God did not plan for us to be
struggling and overburdened all the time. When
Jesus spoke of the flowers of the field and the
birds of the air, he revealed pleasure that he had
found in the life around him. Not all our days
will be happy and productive, but there must be
rewards to keep us going. We need times of
joyful celebration.

Palm Sunday is a somewhat confusing event. Jesus’ opponents were disturbed and told
him to quiet his followers. The disciples, though, shouted all the more loudly, “Hosanna! What a
blessing we have in welcoming the One who comes in God’s name!” The disciples deserved a reward
for their faithfulness. Jesus celebrated the fact that his mission was being accomplished. To be sure,
there were dangers that they knew were around them, but celebration was still called for.

Many people today feel that it is almost wrong to feel joy. How can we be happy, when
we know that other people are suffering? How can we feel good about life, when there is a great
deal of evil around us that threatens any goodness? God, though, seems to realize the importance
of finding satisfaction along the way. If we do not find it and feel it, we can easily lose heart and
get discouraged. We should not wait until everything is perfect before we rejoice in what is
already good. We should enjoy life’s journey, even though some of it may be uphill.

Palm Sunday calls us to celebrate the fact that God is with us. Enjoy being “on the way!”
Be glad to be among Christ’s present day followers, who experience God’s goodness to us, and
walk with a lighter step.

STEWARDSHIP

WE HAVE A GREATER NEED

Of course, the church needs our money if it

is to do God’s holy work of ministering His
love to His people. But as great as this need
is, we have a prior and greater need and that
is to use rightly all that God has entrusted to
us. We have a great need to give lovingly,
with thanksgiving to God.
HOLY WEEK BE JOYFUL AND THANKFUL
SERVICES Giving is a time for each one of us to be
Maundy Thursday joyful and thankful to God for all He has
given and gives to us daily. We receive
March 24th, 7:00 p.m.
from Him in order to give. Jesus said,
“Give and it shall be given to you.”
Good Friday
March 25th, 12:00 noon-3:00 p.m. TITHING OUR TIME AND TALENT

Tithing, a percent of our income to the Lord

Holy Saturday is commendable. Even more commendable
March 26th is giving a percentage of our time and talent.
Imani Ya Watume Retreat Indeed, it is the tithing of all of the gifts God
has given to us that allows us to be strong,
Easter Sunday faithful and devoted stewards.
