ABSTRACT

AIR REFRIGERATION
Inroduction:-
Refrigeration is the science of producing and maintaining
temperatures below that of the surrounding atmosphere. This means
the removing of heat from a substance to be cooled .Heat always
passes downhill, from a worm body to a cooler one, until both bodies
are at the same temperature.
The term refrigeration in a broad sense is used for the process of
removing heat(i.e. cooling)from a substance .In other words,the
refrigeration means a continued extraction of heat from a body,
whose temperature is already below the temperature of its
surroundings.
In a refrigerator, heat is virtually being pumped from a lower
temperature to a higher temperature .According to second law of
thermodynamics ,This process can only be performed with the aid of
some external work.It is thus obvious, that supply of power(say
electric motor) is regularly required to drive a refrigerator.
Theoretically, the refrigerator is a reversed heat engine, or a heat
pump to extract heat from a cold body and to deliver to hot body is
called refrigerant.
The equipment employed to maintain the system at a low
temperature is termed as refrigerating system and the system which
is kept at lower temperature is called refrigerated system.
Refrigeration is generally produced in one of the following three
ways ..............
1.By melting of a solid,
2.By sublimation of a solid,
3. By evaporation of a liquid.(imp.)
Most of the commercial refrigeration is produced by the evaporation
of a liquid called refrigerant.
Important refrigeration applications:-
1.ice making
2.transportation of foods above and below freezing
3.industrial air-conditioning
4.comfort air conditioning
5.medical and surgical
6.chemical and related industry
7.processing food products and beverages .
8.oil refining and synthetic rubber manufacturing
9. Manufacturing and treatment of metals.
10.freezing food products.
11.miscellenous applications :

(b) plumbing
(c) building construction etc..............
