The Cause Of Stress

Stress is very common and close to all human , espescially among students. Students in higher
education perceive academic life as stressful and demanding (Wan, 1992; Hammer, Grigsby, &
Woods, 1998) and report experiencing emotional and cognitive reactions to this stress, especially
due to external pressures and self-imposed expectations (Misra, &McKean, 2000). The milieu of
tertiary education has always been regarded as a highly stressful environment for students. There
are many causes that can bring to stress . The major stressors across the universities student were
academic-related issues. The major stressors were related to academic and contributing factors of
stress were related to university, coping strategy, types of stressor and parent income status. A
recent study of stress and support variables affecting undergraduate students (mean age 22.3
years) at a rural South African university (Pillay & Ngcobo, 2010) revealed the fear of academic.
In another research confirms the high prevalence of stress in the lives of university students, and
these are especially relevant in the context of issues relating to drop-out rates and poor academic
progress (Robotham & Julian, 2006). The most frequently reported stressors were those relating
to academic work, especially the fear of failing (92.5%). Stress-inducing academic demands
include grade competition; lack of time and issues relating to time or task management (Macan,
Shahani, Dipboye, & Phillips, 1990; Trueman., & Hartley, 1996). Furthermore , in a study,
Schneider (2002) suggested that students perceived workload required in college, competition
among students and difficulty of the curriculum very stressful. There are research in the United
States also noted academic stressors to be among the more significant sources of stress among
college students (Staats, Cosmar, & Kaffenberger, 2007). Other than that , fear of failing, finance
and accommodation problems featured very strongly, with deaths of family members and
significant others also prominent. Moreover, another category that evokes stress is social
adjustment, particularly adjusting to university life (Saracoglu, Minden, & Wilchesky, 1989;
Abouserie, 1994; Johnson, Batia, & Hauan, 2008) and separating from family and friends. In a
nutshell, its proven that many causes can bring to stress among student. Thus, students have to
take action and learn how to avoid stress before it become more worst.
