Struggling in mathematics is not the enemy, any more than sweating is the enemy in basketball;
it is part of the process, and a clear sign of being in the game. Math is not a spectator sport!

What is this course?
Common Core Algebra includes the essential learnings of working with properties of real numbers,
problem solving using real world applications, solving and graphing linear equations and functions,
writing linear equations, solving and graphing linear inequalities, solving systems of linear equations
and inequalities, working with exponents and exponential functions, quadratic equations and
functions, polynomials and factoring, rational expressions and equations, radicals and connections to
Geometry.

This course introduces students to key concepts and theories that provide a foundation for further
study in mathematics (Geometry, A2T, etc.) and increases students mathematic literacy, problem
solving, and critical thinking skills. The problem solving and critical thinking skills that students
learn in Algebra are valuable tools that can be taken to and applied in other disciplines.

Class Expectations:
As a student in this course, it is expected that you:

Class Grades:
Homework & Participation: HW is assigned as needed and specified in the chapter
packets. No late homework will be accepted without an excuse. If you are absent, you
have 2 days to make up the work. My homework policy is simple, Do the work and get a
check (2 points); dont do it and receive a 0.

Your participation grade includes attendance, punctuality, preparation, and daily
participation. You need to be in class and on time with the required materials. You must be
involved and participating in class discussions and activities. If you are tardy, please bring a
pass. If you are absent, please bring a pass to the office.
(20% of quarter grade)

Cumulative Reviews: The purpose of these weekly assignments is to help you review,
reinforce, and easily recall topics you should know from previous math courses and the
topics you learn in this course. CRs will be assigned on every MONDAY and will be due
FRIDAY of that same week, unless otherwise noted.
(10% of quarter grade)

Quizzes & Tests: There is typically one quiz per week unless it is a test week. If you are
absent the day of a quiz, you must take it upon return. You will have until the following test
or quiz (whichever comes first) to make up the missing quiz.

A test will be given at the end of every unit. All tests are cumulative. If you are absent
the day of a test, the make-up rules are the same as for quizzes. Make-up tests will only be
allowed with a legal excuse for the absence.
(Quizzes- 20% of quarter grade, Tests- 50% of quarter grade)

***I reserve the right to make changes to the grading policy as I see necessary.

*Remember, you need 3 credits of math + 1 passing Math Regents exam to graduate!!!
