Floridas Nonagricultural Employment by Industry (Seasonally Adjusted)

The number of jobs in Florida was 7,795,900 in July 2014, up 208,500 jobs compared to a year ago. July 2014
was the 48th consecutive month with positive annual job growth after the state lost jobs for over three years.
The industry gaining the most jobs was trade, transportation, and utilities (+43,200 jobs, +2.7 percent).

Other industries gaining jobs included construction (+40,600 jobs, +11.1 percent); leisure and hospitality
(+38,300 jobs, +3.7 percent); professional and business services (+33,900 jobs, +3.0 percent); private
education and health services (+32,400 jobs, +2.9 percent); financial activities (+11,300 jobs, +2.2 percent);
other services (+5,500 jobs, +1.8 percent); manufacturing (+2,000 jobs, +0.6 percent); information (+600 jobs,
+0.4 percent); and government (+400 jobs, less than +0.1 percent).

These industry job gains were partially due to increases in food and beverage stores; specialty trade
contractors; food services and drinking places; services to buildings and dwellings; ambulatory health care
services; insurance carriers and related activities; membership associations and organizations; fabricated
metal product manufacturing; telecommunications; and state government.
Local Area Unemployment Statistics (Not Seasonally Adjusted)

In July 2014, Walton and Monroe counties had the states lowest unemployment rate (3.9 percent each),
followed by Okaloosa County (4.9 percent), Wakulla County (5.2 percent), and St. Johns County
(5.5 percent). Many of the counties with the lowest unemployment rates were those with relatively high
proportions of government employment.

Hendry County had the highest unemployment rate (12.5 percent) in Florida in July 2014, followed by Flagler
and Hamilton counties (9.3 percent each); Glades County (9.0 percent); and Hardee, Madison, and Putnam
counties (8.8 percent each). There was one county with a double-digit unemployment rate for July and one
for June.
Area Nonagricultural Employment (Not Seasonally Adjusted)

Of the 22 metro areas in the state, 20 had over-the-year job gains in July 2014. The areas with the largest
gains were Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall (+36,400 jobs, +3.5 percent), Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford (+33,200
jobs, +3.2 percent), and Ft. Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach (+22,800 jobs, +3.1 percent).

The two metro areas that lost jobs over the year were Ocala (-500 jobs, -0.6 percent) and Sebastian-Vero
Beach (-100 jobs, -0.2 percent).
Note: The unemployment and job growth rates are estimates, which are primarily based on surveys created and mandated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics in cooperation with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
The unemployment rate is derived from Florida household surveys conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau under contract with the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics. The job growth rate is derived from Florida employer surveys conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Both estimates are revised on a monthly basis. In addition, these estimates are benchmarked (revised) annually based on actual counts from Florida's
Reemployment Assistance tax records and other data.
Procedures mandated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics may result in more variable month-to-month changes. For further information, go to:
http://www.bls.gov/sae/cesprocs.htm

The mission of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity is to promote economic prosperity for all Floridians and
businesses through successful workforce, community, and economic development strategies.
