I am most pleased to be writing this letter of recommendation for Ms. Kaitlyn Haley who is seeking a social studies teaching position in your school district. I have known Kaitlyn for two years and served as her Junior Field Experience professor in Fall 2013. Based on my interactions with her and my field observations of her teaching I feel confident in my ability to recommend her ability to teach effectively.
As a student, I found Kaitlyn to be a hard working individual who completed her work on time, purposefully and with high quality. This is consistent with her cumulative GPA of 3.89, having made the deans list 5 out of 5 semesters at TCNJ, and being a recipient of ETS Recognition of Excellence Award for earning a score of 184 on the Social Studies Praxis. Additionally, Kaitlyn was a strong student who never missed class, participated regularly, responsible for her own learning, and offered insight into class discussions. On a more personal level, she is kind-hearted, genuine and well liked by her peers.
Throughout her junior field experience at Bordontown Regional Middle School, Kaitlyn demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching. She designed a two- week student-centered instructional unit on Buddhism and Ancient India. This unit was replete with all materials, assessments, daily lessons and reflections composed after each lesson she taught. She was an effective teacher and developed a warm and responsive classroom environment conducive to student learning. Throughout her practicum, Kailey conducted herself professionally and established a positive, professional relationship with her cooperating teacher, Mr. Koch. While I did not observe Kailey student teach, her cooperating teacher and her student teaching supervisor both rated her as a highly effective.
In addition to her success as a student teacher and as a student, Kaitlyn has also sought experiences outside the college, which demonstrate her commitment to teaching and to social justice. Her internship in curriculum development at Founders Education illustrates her deliberate effort to advance her skills in social studies curriculum development; her involvement in the SOE Secondary Education Teachers Association, the TCNJ Board of Student Leaders, and membership in two organizations suggest her capability and willingness to assume leadership roles, and her volunteerism as a tutor in the Department of Corrections and as event chair or judge in a number of venues including Habitat for Humanity are highly commendable and support her belief in social justice. Most notable is her ability to maintain a high GPA, volunteer and work part-time at the Gap during highly demanding periods of time.
In summary, I highly recommend Ms. Haley to your school district. She will be an asset to your faculty, will be dedicated to the students in her classroom and has already demonstrated the potential to rise and assume leadership roles in your school district. Should you need additional information I will be happy to speak with you via cell phone or email. Both have been provided below.
Sincerely,
