DNCE electrical cylinders
Products
Electrical Drives
The ideal alternative to traditional pneumatic piston-rod
cylinders
Product description
The DNCE is a spindle axis with a round piston rod.
The profile is compatible with our pneumatic DNC ISO cylinder.
The drive component is a spindle which converts the rotary mo-
tion of the motor into the linear motion of the piston rod.
The DNCE is available in 2 variants (each in 2 sizes, 32 and 40).
DNCE-BS
(BS: Ball screw)
Electrical cylinder for continuous push/pull applications. As in the
case of the DGE ..SP, the spindle is a high-quality recirculating-
ball type.
Specially designed for combination with the Festo servo
motors MTR-AC
DNCE-LS
(LS: Lead screw)
Servo axis with inexpensive plain-bearing spindle, similar to
DMES.
The electrical servo cylinder DNCE-LS is specially designed for
slow motions with high forces.
Characteristic features
The pitch of the drive threads has been chosen to provide a
self-locking function.
Specially designed for combination with the Festo motor unit
MTR-DCI
Background
In connection with Festos established pneumatic piston-rod
cylinders like the DNC, customers are more and more often mak-
ing additional requests with the aim of increasing the flexibility of
motion sequences. These requests are for:
Programming of any desired positions
Travel at a specified constant speed
Acceleration and deceleration via controllable ramps
Puling or pushing action with specified force
Electrical axes are able to meet these requests easily. A further
factor is that customers are asking more and more for machines
which require just one type of energy supply (in our case, an elec-
tric supply).
Motor mounting
To meet the needs of different customer applications, DNCE-LS
and BS will be offered in all sizes with the options of a U-shaped
motor configuration or an axial motor configurations.
Axial motor configuration U-shaped motor
configuration
Compatibility with Festo DNC
The DNC has been chosen as the mechanical platform, as this
pneumatic cylinder is well known in the market and has been sold
in very large quantities.
Compatibility with existing modular DNC system:
This allows use of the comprehensive range of existing acces-
sories:
DNCE- .. U
(U-shaped motor configuration)
Target applications
The DNCE opens up new applications with more flexibility and
better running characteristics (compared with DNC).
The DNCE in comparison with the (pneumatic) DNC:
Can be positioned as desired
Pushing and/or pulling action with specified force.
When equipped with a regulated drive, can be used to produce
predefined forces (pulling or pushing action).
Travel at specified constant speed
Acceleration and deceleration via controllable ramps
The most important features
The perfect package solution:
A combination of a DNCE and a standard Festo motor (MTR-AC
or MTR-DCI) produces a drive package whose components
match perfectly and are pre-configured.
The DNCE offers the maximum possible performance density
(thrust relative to physical size)
Compatible with pneumatic ISO cylinder DNC
No risk and maximum reliability, everything from a single
source.

Looking ahead
The DNCE is the first family of electrical cylinders to be launched
by Festo. This, however, is only the beginning. In 2007, we plan to
expand the DNCE product family to include a 63 mm size.
