With regard to motor control, a selec-

tion can be made on the basis of

whether the motors concerned have
the encoder option or are to to be con-
trolled in an open-loop mode.
The selection of open loop or ServoLight mode affects only
the cascaded speed-regulating set of the controller and thus
operational reliability. The control functions and control inter-
faces are identical for the two modes.
Motivated not least by the very positive feedback from visitors
to the Hanover Fair concerning this product, we would like in
this article to describe the mode of operation and method used
for commissioning of the CMMS-ST.
Typical steps for commissioning with FCT
Step 1
Assembly of the drive package, consisting of the controller,
motor and axis.
Step 2
Selection of operating mode and required controller interface.
Step 3
Setting the desired reference travel, reference travel method
and travel speeds.

ServoLight motor controller CMMS-ST
A brief introduction to its operation
In FIS 134 we brought you a general introduc-
tion to the CMMS-ST with its innovative Servo-
Light operating mode, which turns stepper
motor technology into a low-cost servo system.
Step 4
Definition of the physical dimensions and position of the meas-
uring reference points.
Step 5
In order to use the control method with command selection, it
is necessary to create a position table with max. 63 positions.
Travel profiles will also be required.
A maximum of 8 different travel profiles can be defined. The
travel profile defines how a position is to b approached in
terms of:
Travel speed
Acceleration ramps
Jolt limitation factor
Start delay time
Final speed during transition to next linked travel command.
Step 6
Optimization of controller settings. To allow optimum matching
to application requirements, a special tuning tool is available
to test travel sequences and optimize the cascaded speed-reg-
ulating set.
The controller trace function and the FCT oscillograph display
can also be used to display a precise record of motion as a
function of virtually any desired physical measured values.
Further information and an opportunity for practical exercises
will be provided by the IPT product training workshops and sub-
sequent detailed specialist training workshops in the 2nd half
of the year.
A demo case is also being prepared which will allow the prod-
uct to be demonstrated easily and permit users to work by
themselves to familiarize themselves with the product.
The FCT configuration interface makes the motor controller
very easy to operate.
