An introduction to the
School wide Learning
Results (SLRs) and the
Melawati Way (take care
of yourself, others and
this place). Students
develop their
understanding of the
classroom and school
community.
The weather is constantly changing and affects what we
do and the way we live. Students observe the weather and
collect data to begin to understand weather patterns and
forecasting.
All people have wants and needs. Students investigate how
communities provides goods to meet peoples needs and how these
resources come from many different places and go through a
series of processes from their source to our homes. They learn how
producing, processing and transporting resources can impact the
environment.
Through observation, care of organisms and research students
learn about the characteristics of living things and how they
survive in their environment. They communicate their learning
though the living things presentation.
The choices we make impact the environment.
Students learn why taking care of the planet is
important and some practical ways to help.
Through timelines, interviews, books and
other resources, students develop a sense of
change over time and how we learn about
the past.

Reading Workshop - developing the habits and strategies of reading - comprehension, decoding, fluency, vocabulary and expression - through read aloud, teacher modelling, guided and indepentent reading
The rituals and routines of
reading workshop are
established as the good habits of
readers are introduced and
practiced.
Students review, learn and practice strategies to
figure out words through a variety of genre.
Whilst continuing to build their decoding strategies, students are
encouraged to think and talk more about the books they read to
make connections and develop ideas.
Students use their reading strategies to pursue their interests as readers with a variety of book genre and other texts. During this time
an understanding of informational text and its specific features will be introduced.

and plan for summer reading
Writing
Writing Workshop - Writing process - 6-traits (Ideas, Organization, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, Voice, Conventions)
The rituals and routines of
writing workshop are established
as the good habits of writers are
introduced and practiced.
As the 6 traits (Ideas, Organization, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, Voice and Conventions) are revealed and
developed through the writing process, students learn how to become skilled writers and to reflect on and improve
their own writing.
Using their understanding of the 6 traits and the writing process, students will continue to
develop as writers through other genre with a focus on procedural writing including an
informational report.
Students will be encouraged to develop voice as they revisit 6 traits and
apply the writing process to write in a variety of genre on topics of their
choice.
Listening
& Speaking
In a variety of settings students will develop their ability to follow directions, stay on topic, take turns to speak, listen and respond to others and pose
questions. They will have opportunities to speak to an audience.

Adding to their growing ability to interact orally in a variety of settings, students will learn how to give constructive
advice to peers on their writing.
By sharing memories and conducting interviews,
students will have opportunities to practice their
listening and speaking skills.
Information Literacy From love of reading to digital citizenship, from finding the right book to finding the answer to a research question and making good choice for presentation of the learning, information literacy is interwoven throughout the curriculum all year at a developmentally appropriate level to meet the students needs in real time.

the celebration of arts of Malaysian and International
Festivals.
