Serene Renew

Serene Renew is the perfect product to renew a serene environment and reel in stress
levels that tend to get out of balance. Suitable for adults and children. Each Tablet
Contains: Proprietary blend 600 mg* of: Kava Kava (root)(70% kavalactones),
Valerian (root)(0.8% valerenic acid), L-Theanine, Phenibut, St. J ohns Wort
(herb)(0.3% hypericin), Passion Flower, Inositol, Lecithin (sunflower). Serene Renew
is helpful support for sleep, relaxation, calmness, and focus.
Kava Kava (root) (70% kavalactones) is an herb used for relaxation and sleep support.
Many studies (including a meta-analysis) confirm that kava and safe (Kava in the treatment of
generalized anxiety disorder: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study. J Clin Psychopharmacol. 2013;
Pittler, MH et al. 2003, Kava. Cochrane Database Syst Rev.). The various mechanisms of action for
kava contribute to its effect on neurotransmitter homeostasis (and adrenal insufficiency)
and its ability to support energy levels and stress reactions (Blumenthal, Mark. The ABC Clinical
Guide to Herbs. American Botanical Council. 2003).
Valerian (root)(0.8% valerenic acid) has been used for centuries an herbal support for
stress homeostasis. Its effects are suspected to be mediated through the GABA
receptor. The amino acid valine is named after this plant. The valerenic acids and
sesquiterpenoids in valerian are considered to be the highly active components.
Valerian supports neuronal and heart health in addition to the effects normally
attributed to this anti-stress herb.
L-Theanine: Web MD describes theanine as an amino acid found in green tea that has
a chemical structure similar to a naturally occurring amino acid in the body that helps to
transmit nerve impulses in the brain. It is a powerful amino acid with amazing
properties. It raises glutathione, which is the bodys main antioxidant and cell
stabilizer. L-Theanine has a homeostatic effect on the calming neurotransmitters, as
well as balancing the homeostasis of excitatory neurotransmitters. It is through this
neurotransmitter pathway that L-theanine may be exerting its effects of counteracting
the results of too much caffeine.
Phenibut (beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid) is also a powerful antioxidant, and
unlike GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), it is able to cross the blood barrier to
promote its effects. GABA is a natural neurotransmitter produced in the body. The
proposed mechanisms of phenibut are aimed at neuronal responses, learning centers,
and normal dopamine production.
St. Johns Wort (herb)(0.3% hypericin has historically been utilized as support for
mood homeostasis. St. J ohns Wort, valerian and passion flower were investigated in a
multicenter, prospective observational study (2008) with 115 children between 6 and 12
years, and found to be safe, well tolerated, and good support. St. J ohns Wort was
studied with kava kava in a systematic review that was conducted using the electronic
databases MEDLINE, CINAHL, and The Cochrane Library during late 2008 and those
results also supported the historical use of St. J ohns Wort. (Kava and St. John's Wort: current
evidence for use in mood and anxiety disorders. J Altern Complement Med. 2009.)

Passion Flower: Numerous pharmacological effects of Passiflora incarnata are mediated via modulation of the
GABA system (Modulation of the -aminobutyric acid (GABA) system by Passiflora incarnata L. Phytother Res. 2011). The same two-
year multicenter, prospective observational study on St. J ohn's Wort, valerian root, and Passion Flower
mentioned above (involving 115 children between 6 and 12 years) was well tolerated and found to be beneficial
(Herbal triplet in treatment of nervous agitation in children. Wien Med Wochenschr. 2013 Feb.)
Inositol is used to stabilize cell structures thereby enhancing cell signaling and cell communication. It helps the
second messenger system and aids in the production of ATP.
Lecithin (sunflower) is an emulsifier that is beneficial for increasing the absorption and bioavailability of many
nutrients. Lecithin is also known for fostering a normal non-inflammatory state, and has been researched for its
favorable effects in supporting health. Lecithin has lowered C-reactive protein in some studies (CRP is an
inflammatory marker).
Contraindications: The ingredients in this formula have a good safety profile. Use caution when used
concomitantly with other drugs, especially benzodiazepines, and CNS depressants as they sometimes affect
similar biochemical pathways, and statins/acetaminophen which lower liver function. Possible interaction with
goldenseal supplements. St. J ohns Wort can interact (usually slow the metabolism of) some drugs. Consult
with your practitioner if in doubt.
