SUMMER REPORTER
The Rocky Organiza-
tion for Animal Rescue
(ROAR) is currently
experiencing higher than
usual numbers of kittens
and cats in their organi-
zation.
The organization
posted to their Facebook
page August 12 saying,
At our monthly meeting
tonight, it was decided
by our ROAR members
to temporarily suspend
taking in any more cats
until our numbers stabi-
lize. It is unfortunate that
we have to do this, but
we simply cannot handle
taking in more cats at
this time. If considering
adopting a cat or kitten,
please consider adopting
from ROAR.
ROAR, a non-prot
organization that rescues
stray and unwanted
animals, does not have
a shelter for the cats,
but has volunteers who
foster their animals until
they nd a permanent
home.
The organization is
stressing the importance
of spaying and neutering
household pets.
People really need to
spay or neuter their cats.
There are a lot of cats go-
ing missing, being found
and being abandoned,
but people need to under-
stand that animals are
not a throwaway item.
When you get tired of it,
you cant just put it out.
If you keep it and dont
get it spayed or neutered
then there will be a litter
of kittens. Spaying and
neutering is the most
important thing in look-
ing after an animal, says
ROARs president Debbie
Kemper.
Kemper says that there
are currently 54 cats in
ROAR custody, which is
the rst time the organi-
zation has had this many
cats. And most of the
cats are kittens just a few
months old.
Its the season where
theres a lot of kittens
being born and unfortu-
nately they are litters of
ve or six kittens. People
have been wonderful at
stepping up and fostering
them but right now there
are too many for us to
keep proper control of,
says Kemper.
The fee to adopt a cat
or kitten from ROAR is
$110 which includes the
cats spay or neuter, rst
year shots and cover-
age of any other health
issues that the cat may
have had while at ROAR.
In addition, ROAR of-
fers a $30 rebate for any
resident who has their
dog or cat spayed or neu-
tered when they present
a receipt.
Anyone who is inter-
ested in adopting a cat or
would like more informa-
tion can call ROAR at
403-844-6024.
Single-vehicle rollover
Huge turnout for chuckwagon races
Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services responded to this single-vehicle rollover on Hwy. 752 on
Aug. 12, shortly before 9 a.m. The 82-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The
accident occurred about one kilometre north of Devils Elbow. LAURA BUTTON | THE MOUNTAINEER
ROAR Society reports
high numbers of cats
Organization stresses the importance of
spaying or neutering household pets
The ROAR Society is currently experiencing overwhelming numbers of kittens and cats. They
ask that anyone who is thinking about adopting a cat to consider their organization. Cats such as
Tabby, who has just made a full recovery from a broken leg, are available for adoption.
