Check if the power-supply unit (PSU), transceiver (TRX), microphone (MIC), Antenna Tuning Unit (ATU),
Antenna (ANT) and the necessary power-supply and coaxial cables are present
Connect ANT to ATU (Remember that the coaxial connectors must be locked into position and fully
screwed)
Connect ANT-1 INPUT of ATU to ANT-1 OUTPUT of transceiver (Remember that the coaxial connectors
must be locked into position and fully screwed)
Connect DC power-supply leads (first BLACK then followed by RED) to the PSU
Visually cross-check that all the connections are correct and secure
Switch-ON the PSU and verify that 13.8 volts is available on the voltmeter display

Adjust the audio volume to a comfortable level using the AF gain knob
Page 2 of 17
Select power setting with FUNCTION button to enter power setting mode and then use multi-function
POWER knob to adjust power output
Check if transceiver coaxial RF ANT-1 output is correctly connected to the RF ANT-1 input on ATU unit
(Remember that the coaxial connectors must be locked into position and fully screwed)
Switch-on transceiver
Use MODE button to select FM (Frequency Modulation) ... don't use SSB or AM
Page 4 of 17
Use FUNCTION button to activate POWER settings dial. Lower the POWER to 10Watts
Select QSO frequency for the antenna tuning procedure using VFO of transceiver
Note that the transceiver frequency must correspond to the frequency BAND on the ATU frequency dial
Page 5 of 17
If transceiver coaxial connection input is to ANT-1 of the antenna-matcher, then select MATCHING ANT-1
also on the ANTENNA dial
With toggle-switch of SWR meter on CAL (Calibration), press transmit key on MIC to generate a carrier
Calibrate using the CAL (Calibration) knob-dial to align needle for the MAXIMUM value
Use the two (big) antenna matching dials R TUNE and X TUNE to find the lowest SWR (Below 1.5 is
acceptable and 1.1 is excellent)
Hint : Values around 8.2 on the two dials will give you a low SWR
Re-calibrate display : Set toggle-switches to 20W - REF - SWR - CAL and use CAL dial to re-align needle
with MAXIMUM value
Again use the two (big) antenna matching dials R TUNE and X TUNE to find the lowest SWR
Repeat the calibration and SWR matching steps till SWR is 1.1

VHF Antenna Matching (Monacor FSI-6) - Power Calibration & SWR Reduction
Page 15 of 17
Check if transceiver coaxial RF output is correctly connected to the RF ANT-1 input on ATU unit
(Remember that the coaxial connectors must be locked into position and fully screwed)
Switch-on transceiver
Use FUNCTION button to activate POWER settings dial. Lower the POWER to 1Watt
Verify transceiver coaxial connection and if the input is to ANT-1 then select ANT-1 also on the ATU
Calibrate using the CALIBRATE dial to align needle with MAXIMUM value
Adjust the length of the two arms of the half-wave dipole antenna
Hint: Best SWR is obtained when each arm of the half-wave dipole measures approximately
48cms. Fully extend the metallic tubes going from thickest to thinnest.
Use the antenna SWR dial to find the lowest SWR (Below 1.5 is acceptable and 1.1 is excellent)
Re-select CALIBRATION on toggle-switch of SWR meter and re-calibrate using the CALIBRATE dial to
align needle with MAXIMUM value
Repeat this calibration and SWR matching steps till SWR is 1.1
