I have had the pleasure of supervising Ms. Samantha Salazar Ang as a Registered Nurse at Cagayan de Oro Polymedic Medical Group. She was hired on November 01, 2007 to May 31, 2011 as a Staff Nurse on a full-time regular basis and rehired on July 05, 2011 until March 15, 2012 as Nurse Reliever on a full-time regular basis as well.
Cagayan de Oro Polymedic Medical Plaza is a private tertiary care hospital and a member of the Polymedic Medical Group. It has a total bed capacity of two hundred fifty (250), fully equipped with modern facilities and offers various services. Ms. Ang has rendered her nursing services in different departments in this hospital wherein she started her career at Cagayan de Oro Polymedic General Hospital,also a tertiary hospital with a bed capacity of one hundred five (105), which is a subsidiary of Polymedic Medical Group. Her area of experience as pertaining to the ANZSCO code assessed by ANMAC falls under 254499, or as a Registered Nurse whose experience are Not Elsewhere Classified. Her experience in the General Ward area allowed her to handle various cases including Pediatric, Obstetric-Gynecologic, Isolation cases, Medical and Surgical cases.
Following functional nursing in our delivery of care, Ms. Ang would assume any role either as charge, medication, or bedside nurse of the nursing team and will be accounted for as part of the three-man team of the shift. As charge nurse, she demonstrated team leadership, being the person responsible for collaborating with other members of the health care team which includes the medication nurse, bedside nurse, Attending Physicians, laboratory and radiology staff on-duty. She also possess good critical thinking and decision-making as she was responsible for monitoring the patient's vital signs and updating progress notes and ensuring that any unusualities are immediately attended and relayed to their respective doctors. She was able to present good accountability in carrying out doctor's orders and making sure that everything is well-documented in accordance to hospital policy and procedures.As medication nurse, she is well-competent in preparing and giving medications while observing the seven rights of medication administration. She also made sure that there are enough supply of medicine for the patient and collaborated with the pharmacist regarding this matter. She also displayed adequate knowledge of dangerous drugs and would account for said drugs accordingly. As bedside nurse, she took responsibility in performing bedside care to the patients of her particular assigned area like doing nursing procedures such as ECG taking, enema, blood glucose level monitoring and wound dressing. She demonstrated good initiative skills by making sure to follow up examination and laboratory results, and collaborating with the charge nurse to relay said results to the doctors. She also acted as a good team player by giving assistance to the charge nurse and medication nurse, when needed.
Ms. Ang has shown utmost respect to the patients by always observing privacy and confidentiality and ensuring that prior to any procedure, a consent should be obtained. She also adhered to the hospitals policy on infection control and took part in this by properly disposing waste products accordingly. Her ability to observe and document progress or any untoward changes in her patients also helped the medical team to make necessary adjustments to the management of the patients care plan. As part of the hospitals effort to deliver quality care, Ms. Ang and the rest of the nursing department are encouraged to attend seminars and trainings wherein she has been diligently attending these seminars to further widen her knowledge and improve her skills, and implemented what she has learned from the said seminars to her work.
