2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NKJV)
9
And He said to me, My grace is
sufficient for you, for My strength is
made perfect in weakness.
Therefore most gladly I will rather
boast in my infirmities, that the
power of Christ may rest upon me.
10
Therefore I take pleasure in infir-
mities, in reproaches, in needs, in
persecutions, in distresses, for
Christs sake. For when I am weak,
then I am strong.

As a teacher, Jesus was a mas-
ter. He used several teaching
styles to convey Gods truths. He
used miracles to teach about the
power of God. He used symbols
to relate everyday things to spir-
itual truths, like I am the bread of
life. He used proverbs, and he
used parables or stories. What he is using in 2 Cor. 12:9 is
called a paradox, My strength is made perfect in weak-
ness. A paradox is a seemingly contradictory statement
that also expresses a spiritual truth. Paul apparently learned
this truth because in 2 Cor. 12:10 he restates it so eloquently
when he says For when I am weak, then I am strong.
As I sat down to write this letter I couldnt get it off my
mind that another Koinonia is just around the corner, Wom-
ens Bible study is starting soon and we have our Confer-
ence coming up in Oct. The realization just hit me, I am
soooooo weak. I used to plan and then panic as if every-
thing depends on me. I was always overwhelmed and an-
ticipating every kind of problem that could arise. A lot of
times I just couldnt enjoy what was going on around me
because I was so tense. Praise the Lord, I have learned over
the course of my walk that I do have weaknesses, but the
beauty in those weaknesses is that Ive found my strength in
Him. Every event that we have ever held at this church has
been a Blessing not because of me but because of Him. You
might say, He does in spite of me.
On Thursday mornings its my habit to go to Women
prayer. A dear sister was praying this week and she quoted
Psalms 23. Thank-you, she said, that you MAKE us to lie
down in green pastures. (Emphasis on make) That so minis-
tered to me, because Im one that he has to MAKE too lie
down, but its only when I do that the peace and rest come.
And its only when I do let go that it hits me that His ways
really are better than my ways. Sometimes we just have to
let go and let God. We have to get out of the way. When
the sheep finally does lie down and rest, he is trusting in the
shepherd to take care of all his needs. You might say in his
weakness the good shepherd is strong.
You may be going through a difficult time today. You
may feel weak and inadequate or, like me, you may feel
responsible for getting everything done. You might even be
feeling pressured to do something you wouldnt otherwise
do. First of all let me encourage you to lie down in that
green pasture and rest in the Lord. Then ask yourself, Could
it be that my challenges are a platform for God to show His
power. Could it be God is using my weaknesses to show His
strength? Of course the answer is yes. The Lord wants to do
far for than we could ever imagine through us. He is just
waiting for us to come to the end of ourselves.
Did you know that I am a living paradox? I am a terribly
weak and limited person, yet in my weakness God has
shown Himself strong. All I have to do is to remember to lay
down all of my limitations and desires and allow Him to work
through me.

"Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)"

You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine
Let Me Walk Upon The Water Let Me Walk Upon The Water Let Me Walk Upon The Water
The August 2014 Womens Koinonia
It has been several months since the women of Calvary Chap-
el gathered for a Womens Koinonia. This Koinonia, was hosted
by our Sharing Lives Ministry, a group of young women being
taught by our older women.
The caf was decorated with an ocean theme in colors of teal
and blue. Soon enough the ladies chatter was a music of its
own. Conversation and hugs took over the caf. The theme for
this Koinonia was Let Me Walk Upon The Waters." Barbara
Castellanos welcomed us and soon enough we were in line eager
to find those special treats to make our meal ever so special.
Desserts as always were bountiful and delicious. Our worship
team came forward and together we sang praise and glory to our
Lord Jesus.
Our guest speakers were Lara Finegan and Isabella Johnson.
Their voices became as one as they both spoke their message
that the Holy Spirit placed on their hearts to share with us to-
day. Matthew 14:29-33 So He said, "Come." And when Peter had
come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to Jesus. But
when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and
beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me: And imme-
diately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to
him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"And when they got
into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat
came and worshiped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."
Lara asked us how we would have responded, would we have
stepped out in faith or in doubt? In our own storms, our trials, do
we step out and walk in faith in Jesus Christ? She reminded us,
like Peter we need to walk by the truths of God, not what is go-
ing on around us, or we are going to sink. She went on to say we
are to spend time in the Word of God and in prayer, that's where
we gain strength, where we grow.
Isabella followed with her message and she spoke of salva-
tion. She said, if we are saved we should be worshipping the
Lord for it is a miracle that we are saved. When we find our-
selves in storms we can be assured Jesus is near. She spoke of
fear and faith. Fear cancels faith and faith cancels all fear. There
is a purpose for storms in our life and they are not easy but nec-
essary. They test us. She shared she was drowning in her storm.
She came back trusting in faith and Jesus outstretched his hand
and drew her back. Jesus gave Peter and invitation to come to
Him on the water. Jesus gives us an invitation to come to Him
for salvation. Isabella closed with an invitation to anyone there
today that maybe came as a guest, to understand that they were
there at the invitation of Jesus Christ. The choice was theirs to
step out of the boat today and reach out to Jesus. Jesus is knock-
ing at the door of your heart. She ended with Revela-
tions 22:12. "Behold, I am coming quickly."

Focus Our Hearts on
Pleasing God
by Kelly Gardner
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 And He said to me, My grace is suffi-
cient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.
Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that
the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take
pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecu-
tions, in distresses, for Christs sake. For when I am weak,
then I am strong.
When the Lord first brought this passage to
my heart, along with the theme, Am I Living For
Gods Standards or Mine? I realized that the
overarching question in my mind was, How am I
living before God our Father? What kinds of
choices am I making throughout the day that
demonstrate my love for Jesus Christ? Do I look
and act different than those in the world or is it
really hard to tell the difference through my
thoughts, words and actions?
When I think about living before God, I think
about wisdom. The book of Proverbs tells us that
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wis-
dom. Proverbs 9:10 But, what does wisdom
mean? What does wisdom look like? How can I
know if I am making wise choices?
Peter tells us how to live before God our Fa-
ther. He tells us we need to focus our thoughts
on those things that allow us to serve God suc-
cessfully. 1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore gird up the
loins of your mind, be sober, and rest [your]
hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought
to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedi-
ent children, not conforming yourselves to the
former lusts, [as] in your ignorance; but as He
who called you [is] holy, you also be holy in all
[your] conduct, because it is written, Be holy, for
I am holy." In simple terms, we are to focus our
hearts on pleasing God.
When I think about pleasing God, I am re-
minded of a wonderful book by Kay Smith with
that same title. Kay says, To please someone
means to delight, to satisfy, or to gratify. When
our aim is to please God, then we begin to
weigh all our actions in the light of whether or
not those actions are pleasing to Him. And this is
not something we do just out of obedience. We
do these things out of an attitude of love.
We as Christian women have been given one
life. We can choose to spend it on our own
pleasures and bending the liberties God has giv-
en us in order to please ourselves, or we can
submit our hearts fully to pleasing God even
when we are experiencing infirmities, reproach-
es, needs, persecutions and distresses. Because
as Paul stated, For when I am weak, then I am
strong.

Will it be HIS or mine?
Will it be HIS or mine?

By Beverly Chong

Am I living by Gods standards or mine?
Good question to ask ourselves while we struggle
through life, believing in Gods Word and trusting as
best we can, while being surrounded by this decay-
ing world and the entire false fulfillment that is offers.
This is another one of those topics that calls for some
soul searching and Bible searching to get the full per-
spective of what all those standards are and how we
choose to structure our lives around them. I like to
call it Cause and Effect standard, because every-
thing we do will have a result that will ultimately ef-
fect and dictate how we live. So, here is what I came
up with.
All through the Bible, you will find encourag-
ing words, commands from God and warnings that
are to be seriously considered, if our lives are to be
blessed and worthy of our God who gave us those
lives in the first place. When we accept the Lord Je-
sus as our Savior and trust Him for the forgiveness He
offers us and the promise of the Holy Spirit to indwell
us and guide us, we are sealed with His love and par-
don from our sins. We are His and He owns us. But
after that, we have a God given choice, of which He
will not tamper with, as to how we want to live, and
there are only two directions, or set of standards of
living, that are available to follow. One is the worlds
standards, which consists of ME, ME, ME. What can I
attain to satisfy myself, while projecting My im-
portance and prominence to all who look upon me?
Or, the other is Gods set of standards. In realizing
that there are only two directions to choose from, we
need to be very clear and very careful in under-
standing that each carries very important results.
Looking to the world to satisfy our needs, carries fail-
ure, disappointment and emptiness, no matter how
much fame or money we can drain from it. But look-
ing to our Lord and desiring to pick up our cross and
follow Him on the path He has set before us brings
incredible satisfaction, including all the joy and love
and provisions that He knows we need as well as
huge blessings of satisfaction sprinkled all along our
path that we dont have to work for and try to attain
on our own; gifts that we never expected yet given
from our loving Savior, purely because that is what
He loves to lavish us with.
God gave us the Ten Commandments and
the Beatitudes to show what He expects from us. He
has sent His Prophets and Teachers to declare how
we are to live, and you will find all the answers to
your questions on standards of living laced through-
out the Bible, cover to cover, from front to back, from
Old Testament to New Testament. I believe Jesus
summed it all up, though, when He said in John 13:34
(New Spirit Life Bible) A new commandment I give
to you, that you love one another; as I have loved
you, that you also love one another. As we yield to
that love with complete willingness to follow Him, we
will find our hearts desires directed to pursue the
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and
gentleness that is spoken of in I Timothy 6:11 and II
Timothy 2:22, just to name a few. You see, my friend,
if our hearts desire is to love Jesus more than anyone
or anything else and we are solely focused on Him
and all that He is no matter what comes our way, we
will find our desires in life are drawn to follow His ex-
ample, producing the standard of living that God
desires for us. How Great is Our God!
Have a very Love Sprinkled and Blessed Decision kind
of day!

Thoughts for Women on Issues
That Matter From A Biblical Per-
spective by Cathe Laurie.
FROM THE BACK COVER:
Truth is truth and the Bible ap-
plies equally to all but it's no
secret that men and women see things different-
ly. Cathe Laurie, wife of Greg Laurie, offers a dis-
tinctively feminine perspective to the eternal in-
sights of God's Word. In As I See It, she shows how
Scripture speaks to all of the basic issues of life:
love, faith, trials, joy, pain, relationships, time, atti-
tudes, speech, marriage, priorities, and hope be-
yond the grave. Each chapter is a quick 2-3 mi-
nute read that will leave you with thoughts to
ponder as you go about your day.

Am I Living For Gods
Standards Or Mine?
As I sit here pondering the question, Am I Living
for Gods Standards or Mine I am lead to Hebrews
12:2, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of
our faith; who for the joy that was set before him en-
dured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down
at the right hand of the throne of God.
The word endure means to remain, to abide, to
not flee, to persevere under misfortunes and trials; to
bear bravely and calmly ill treatments. Jesus en-
dured the cross, despising the shame, for the joy set
before Him. Jesus had eternity in mind, Jesus had US
in mind; Jesus lived for the Fathers glory and for the
Fathers standard because He kept His eyes on the
joy of living eternally with His Father and all of us!
Wow! So many times when I go through struggles,
it is the woe is me syndrome and I thank God, that
by the power of His Spirit, He brings my heart and
eyes back to the Author and Finisher of my faith.
During those times of self- life I am made to realize I
have been seeing things through my standards and
not Gods, and I am brought back to Gods Word that
says, I am the vine, you are the branches. He who
abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for with-
out Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5).
This life that we live is no longer our life, but Christs
life to be lived in and through us, but we so often find
ourselves viewing lifes circumstances through our
standards and, our expectations. We find that when
someone doesnt live up to our standards, we have a
choice to make. We sometimes choose to voice our
opinions letting them know that they did not live up
to our standards and we miss our purpose; we miss
the reason that we were placed in the situation to
begin with. Our purpose is to show Christs love and
mercy to each person He puts in our path remember-
ing the joy set before us. That by a small act of kind-
ness we may be part of Gods plan for that person to
know Jesus. All that we do and all the decisions that
we make, need to be offered up to our Lord, asking,
Will this bring glory and honor to you? It is easier
said than done isnt it?
Right now in my life, the Lord has given me the
honor to stay with my mother in law in what may be
her last days here on earth. This is not an easy thing.
It will not be easy to remain and abide and persevere
during these last days and anyone who has been
with a dying loved one knows this. 2 Corinthians 12:9-
10 says, And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient
for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmi-
ties, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches,
in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's
sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
The word distress in this verse means: a narrow
place, extreme affliction, anguish; extreme pain in
body or mind. When we see a loved one in distress,
we too are in distress and many times we do not
know what to do, what to say, how to minister. It is
easier not to remain. In fact, we sometimes choose
to stay away. Its hard. But God promises us that
when we are weak, then He will be our strength! He
tells us that His grace (His loving kindness, His mercy,
His Spirit in us bringing peace, joy and strength that
keeps us) is sufficient and again we are assured that
His strength is made perfect (will accomplish, will
complete, will bring to fulfillment) in our weakness.
So back to the initial question, Am I Living for
Gods Standards or Mine? I know that I dont live
each and every day for Gods standards, but I do
know that this next assignment He has me on, that in
His strength and in His power, His love will be shown
and, His mercy will endure. I hope and pray that He
will accomplish His standard and purpose through me
as I fix my eyes on Jesus, Gods standard for our lives.
Simply His, Pam Snyder

God Sees Us
From The Inside Out
by Mary Jane Robinette

The pressures of this world for Christian women can be over-
whelming. Sometimes we forget the difference between mans
standards for us and Gods standards. His standards are set high,
because He is the Holy One. We belong to God, we are daugh-
ters of the King. We are cherished in His eyes. As Christian
women we were born to love, serve and be obedient to keeping
God's standards.
Mans standards can never become equal to what God ex-
pects from us every day. The Bible tells us in 2nd Corinthians
12:9-10 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for
My strength is made perfect in weakness."Therefore most gladly I
will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may
rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in re-
proaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's
sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." How often do we
allow the standards that man sets before us to be the focus of our
day?
The apostle Paul suffered with a "thorn in the flesh." We are
not sure what his infirmity was, I read of many different afflic-
tions that may have caused his suffering, but we know that it
bothered him so horribly that he continued to ask God for His
healing. However God chose not to heal Paul. God said, "My
grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in
weakness."Paul went on to say that he learned, "For when I am
weak, then I am strong. Paul knew that no matter what, God's
standards would carry him through his life. He chose to love and
obediently serve God. He knew that in his weaknesses he would
grow strong in Him.
No matter what our circumstances may be in our life we have
a choice whether to live for God's standards or the standards of
the world. Being retired I live a quiet life but none the less I
have my issue where man's standards want to take over the phys-
ical aspects of me. It has been difficult for me since my accident
this past winter when I fell and fractured my back. I was no
longer able to go to the gym and exercise. Back pain has be-
come my thorn in the flesh. Consequently my body image has
now given me a sensitive awareness of how I must look to oth-
ers. I lost that truth that God doesn't look at what is on the out-
side of us, but He looks at what is on the inside. I allowed man's
standards of how a woman should look, thin and shapely, to rule
my thoughts on how I appear to others. I struggle to sort through
clothes for something to wear that won't enhance the inches I've
gained. I became so focused on what society says I need to look
like and what others will think of me, that I became depressed
over my inability to be able to meet man's standards of appear-
ance. And I know I am not alone. I know that many of us wear
this burden so seriously that we don't even want to come out of
our clothes closet. Instead of wanting to clothe ourselves to
meet man's standards we should be thinking of how we can
clothe ourselves with the presence of God. Ladies, I don't know
about you but I have come to understand that I'm worth way
more in Gods eyes, than what outfit will give me a thinner im-
age. Just like the Apostle Paul came to realize in his life, For
when I am weak, then I am strong, in Him.
It is important when dressing for the day to realize that
as Christian women we are to be loving ourselves and remem-
bering who we are in Christ. God loves
and absolutely adores us. We are reminded in Psalm 139:14 I
will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. If we
don't see our self in that light, then we need to be on our
knees praying to God and asking Him to help us to see ourselves
the way He sees us. When we stand before the mirror each
morning we should not be dressing to please man's standards for
who we are. We should be aware that our bodies are temples of
the Lord God. We should treat our body with respect and do our
best to keep them as healthy as we can. With that image we can
begin to realize that we are to obediently submit to what God's
standards are for us as Christian women. We should not be occu-
pied with the standards of this world and neglect the things God
says are important for us each day. We should seek to give a
personal evaluation of ourselves before the Lord daily. It isn't
about how our outward appearance puts us in the class of com-
peting with others in our attire. That's of this world. We need to
take time and clothe ourselves with the love of our Lord God
before we come in the presence of others. It isn't just how we
outwardly appear to others, but how we appear inside to oth-
ers. We need to clothe ourselves with a heart that walks in the
light of Jesus love. We need to remember to pray and mediate
on knowing that it is inside of us where God is looking. We are
commanded to live a life that is based on Gods standard given
through His Holy Word. It is my desire for all who read this, and
for myself, that we will live a life that is separated from the
standards of the world. But live a holy life pleasing to the stand-
ards of our loving God and His precious Son Jesus Christ.

Our Desires For
Womens Ministry
To encourage deeper rela-
tionships and spiritual
growth for the women in
the body of Christ.
To provide a place where
women will be encour-
aged and uplifted to seek
Gods best for their lives.
To give opportunity to
study the Word of God
together that women
might grow in the grace
and knowledge of our
Lord Jesus.
To equip women to be
lights in their homes,
neighborhoods and work-
places reflecting the love
of Jesus Christ to all.
