.t was in 0172 that Edond Bordeau! (8ekely 9rst published his translation of
Book One of The Essene Gospel of Peace3 an ancient anuscript he had
found in the (ecret Archi5es of the 6atican as the result of liitless patience3
faultless scholarship3 and unerring intuition3 a story told in his book3 The
"isco5ery of the Essene Gospel of Peace: The English 5ersion of this ancient
anuscript appeared in 01;<3 and e5er since3 the little 5olue has tra5eled
all o5er the world3 appearing in di=erent languages3 and gaining e5ery year
ore and ore readers3 until now3 still with no coercial ad5ertiseent3
o5er a illion copies ha5e been sold in the &nited (tates alone: .t was not
until alost 9fty years after the 9rst French translation that Book Two and
Book Three appeared3 and these also ha5e now becoe classics of the
Essene literature:
Book Four3 The Teachings of the Elect3 will coe as a surprise to those
readers who are aware of "r: (8ekely>s death in 01<1: if . were also a
philologist3 or scholar3 or archeologist3 . ight be able to pro5ide soe

these ageless truths to stand alone3 unobscured e5en by the presence of the
translator: He did say in his Preface to the 9rst +ondon edition of Book One in
01;< that @we ha5e issued this part before the rest3 because it is the part of
which su=ering huanity has ost need today:@ Perhaps3 in the sae way3

Essene Gospel of Peace:

And all of the were unlike one to the other3 for soe were of age3 and soe
had still the dew of youth on their cheeks3 and soe had been raised
according to the traditions of their fathers3 and others knew not who their
father and other had been: But all shared in a clearness of eye and a
suppleness of body3 for these were signs that for se5en years they had
walked with the angels of the Earthly #other and obeyed her laws: And for
se5en years the unknown angels of the Hea5enly Father had taught the

For only the pure water can irror forth the light of the sunE and that water

ake fruitful y seed3 and with your power gi5e life to y body:> E5en as
your seed creates new life3 so courses through the earth the seed of the
angel of Earth? in the grass3 in the soil3 in all li5ing things that grow fro the
soF: *now3 oh (ons of +ight3 that the sae angel of Earth that akes your
seed into sons also akes the tiny acorn into this ighty oak3 and akes the
seed4bearing wheat to grow for bread for the (on of #an: And the seed of
your body need not enter the body of woan to create lifeE for the power of
the angel of Earth can create the life of the spirit within3 as well as the life of
the body without:

enter with strength the libs of y body:> And with these words ebrace the
Tree of +ife3 e5en as . ebrace this brother oak3 and you will feel the power of
the angel of +ife Fow to your ars3 and to your legs3 and to all the parts of

descend upon earth3 pouring forth beauty and delight to all the children of
the Earthly #other and the3 Hea5enly Father:> And you will go forth into the
9elds of Fowers after rain and gi5e thanks to your Earthly #other for the
sweet odor of blossosE for . tell you truly3 a Fower has no other purpose
than to bring Goy to the heart of the (on of #an: And you will listen with new
ears to the song of the birds3 and see with new eyes the colors of the sun in
its rising and its settingE and all these gifts of the Earthly #other will cause
Goy to well forth within you3 as a spring wells forth of a sudden in a barren
place: And you shall know that no one coes before the Hea5enly Father that
the angel of Goy lets not passE for in Goy was the earth created3 and in Goy did

y body and let e bathe in the 9re of life:> And you will feel the rays of the
rising sun enter into the center point of your body3 there in the center where
the angels of day and of night ingle3 and the power of the sun shall be
yours to direct to any part of your body3 for the angels dwell therein:

enter y blood and gi5e the Cater of +ife to y body:> And you will feel3 like
the rushing current of the ri5er3 the power of the angel of Cater enter your
blood3 and like the ri5ulets of a strea3 send the power of the Earthly #other
through your blood to all the parts of your body: And it shall be for healing3 for
the power of the angel of Cater is 5ery great3 and when you speak to her3 she
will send her power where5er you coand3 for when the angels of God
dwell within the (on of #an3 are all things possible:
@And on the se5enth orning after (abbath3 say these words? >Angel of Air3
enter with y breath and gi5e the Air of +ife to y body:> *now3 oh (ons of
+ight3 that the Angel of Air is the essenger of the Hea5enly Father3 and no
one coes before the face of God that the angel of Air lets not pass: For we
do not think of the angel of Air when we breathe3 for we breathe without
thought3 as the sons of darkness li5e their li5es without thought: But when
the power of life enters into your words and into your breathing3 then for
e5ery tie you in5oke the Angel of Air3 so do you also in5oke the unknown
angels of the Hea5enly FatherE and you will go closer and closer to the
hea5enly kingdos:
@And on the (abbath e5ening3 say these words? >The Hea5enly Father and .
are One:> And close your eyes3 (ons of +ight3 and in sleep enter into the
unknown reals of the Hea5enly Father: And you will bathe in the light of the
stars3 and the Hea5enly Father will hold you in his hand and cause a spring of
knowledge to well up within youE a fountain of power3 pouring forth li5ing
waters3 a Food of lo5e and of all4ebracing wisdo3 like the splendor of
Eternal +ight: And one day the eyes of your spirit shall open3 and you shall
know all things:
@And on the 9rst e5ening after (abbath3 say these words? >Angel of Eternal
+ife3 descend upon e and gi5e eternal life to y spirit:> And close your eyes3
(ons of +ight3 and in sleep conteplate the oneness of all life e5erywhere:
For . tell you truly3 in the daylight hours are our feet on the ground and we
ha5e no wings with which to Fy: But our spirits are not tied to the earth:3 and
with the coing of night we o5ercoe our attachent to the earth and Goin
with that which is eternal: For the (on of #an is not all that he sees3 and
only with the eyes of the spirit can we see those golden threads which link us
with all life e5erywhere:

#en:> For this ost powerful of the angels of the Hea5enly Father is the cause

of the Brotherhood to create the kingdo of the hea5ens upon earth: And as
you work3 so will the angel of -reati5e Cork nurture and ripen the seed of
your spirit3 that you ay see God:

peace3 Angel of Peace3 be always e5erywhere:> (eek the angel of Peace in all
that li5es3 in all you do3 in e5ery word you speak: For peace is the key to all

But the (ons of +ight will not only think3 will not only feel3 but will also do3 and
their acts will ful9ll their thoughts and feelings3 as the golden fruit of suer
gi5es eaning to the green lea5es of spring:

of +ight bathe in the holy water of the angel of +o5e3 that with the orning he

heart of the (on of +ight is bathed in lo5e3 only kind and gentle words speak
forth:

that your thoughts are as powerful as the bolt of lightning that stabs through

waited se5en years to learn how to speak with the angels3 for you know not
the power of your thoughts: &se3 then3 wisdo in all you think and say and
do: For . tell you truly3 that which is done without wisdo is as a riderless

But when the angel of Cisdo go5erns your deeds3 then is the path to the

@And these are the counions with the angels which are gi5en to the (ons
of +ight3 that with bodies puri9ed by the Earthly #other and spirits puri9ed by
the Hea5enly Father3 they ay coand and ser5e the angels3 continually3
fro period to period3 in the circuits of the day3 and in its 9!ed orderE with the
coing of light fro its source and at the turn of e5ening and the outgoing of
light3 at the outgoing of darkness and the coing in of day3 continually3 in all
the generations of tie:
@The truth is born out of the spring of +ight3 falsehood fro the well of
darkness: The doinion of all the children of truth is in the hands of the
Angels of +ight so that they ay walk in the ways of +ight:
@Blessings on all the (ons of +ight who ha5e cast their lot with the +aw3 that
walk truthfully in all their ways: #ay the +aw bless you with all good and keep
you fro all e5il3 and illuine your hearts with insight into the things of life

ancient ways of their fathers3 e5en as Enoch was taught of old:
And Desus said? @The +aw was planted to reward the -hildren of +ight with
healing and abundant peace3 with long life3 with fruitful seed of e5erlasting
blessings3 with eternal Goy in iortality of Eternal +ight:
@Cith the coing of day . ebrace y #other3 with the coing of night . Goin
y Father3 and with the outgoing of e5ening and orning . will breathe their

.t was in the onth of Thebt3 when the earth was co5ered with shoots of
young grass after the rains3 and the co5ering of eerald green was tender as
the 9ne down of a baby chick: And it was on a bright sun49lled orning that
Desus gathered the new Brothers of the Elect round about hi3 that they
ight hear with their ears and understand with their hearts the teachings of
their fathers3 e5en as it was taught to Enoch of old:
And Desus sat beneath a gnarled and ancient tree3 holding in his hands a
sall earthen potE and in the pot was growing tender grass of wheat3 the
ost perfect aong all seedbearing herbs: And the tender grass within the
pot was radiant with life3 e5en as the grass and plants which co5ered the hills
far into the distant 9elds and beyond: And Desus stroked the grass in the pot
with the hands3 e5en as gently as he would touch the head of a little child:
And Desus said? @Happy are you3 (ons of +ight3 for you ha5e entered into the
deathless way and you walk in the path of truth3 e5en as did your fathers of
old3 who were taught by the Great Ones: Cith the eyes and ears of the spirit
do you see and hear the sights and sounds of the kingdo of the Earthly
#other? the blue sky where dwells the angel of Air3 the foaing ri5er where
Fows the angel of Cater3 the golden light which streas fro the angel of
(un: And . tell you truly3 all these are within you as well as withoutE for your
breath3 your blood3 the 9re of life within you3 all are one with the Earthly

But of all these3 and ore3 that ost precious gift of your Earthly #other is
the grass beneath your feet3 e5en that grass which you tread upon without
thought: Huble and eek is the angel of Earth3 for she has no wings to Fy3
nor golden rays of light to pierce the ist: But great is her strength and 5ast
is her doain3 for she co5ers the earth with her power3 and without her the
(ons of #en would be no ore3 for no an can li5e without the grass3 the
trees and the plants of the Earthly #other: And these are the gifts of the
angel of Earth to the (ons of #en:
@But now . will speak to you of ysterious things3 for . tell you truly3 the
huble grass is ore than food for an and beast: it hides its glory beneath
a lowly aspect3 as it was told of a ruler of old that he 5isited the 5illages of his
subGects disguised as a beggar3 knowing they would tell any things to such
a one3 but would fall down in fear before their *ing: (o does the huble grass
hide its glory under its coat of huble green3 and the (ons of #en walk on it3
plough it3 feed it to their beasts3 but know not what secrets are hidden within
it3 e5en those secrets of e5erlasting life in the hea5enly kingdos:
@But the (ons of +ight will know what lies hidden in the grass3 for it is gi5en to
the to bring cofort to the (ons of #en: E5en so are we taught by the
Earthly #other with this 4little handful of wheat in a siple pot3 e5en the
sae earthen pot you use to drink ilk and gather the honey of bees: $ow
the pot is 9lled with black soil rich with old lea5es and oist with the dew of
orning3 e5en that ost precious gift of the angel of Earth:
@And . did oisten a handful of wheat3 that the angel of Cater entered into it:
The angel of Air did also ebrace it3 and the angel of (un3 and the power of
the three angels awakened also the angel of +ife within the wheat3 and sprout
and root were born in each grain:
@Then . put the awakened wheat into the soil of the angel of Earth3 and the
power of the Earthly #other and all her angels entered into the wheat3 and
when the sun had risen four ties the grains had becoe grass: . tell you

And the Brothers looked with re5erence at the tender blades of grass in the
hands of Desus3 and one asked hi? @#aster3 what is the secret of the grass

And Desus answered @.t is not di=erent3 (on of +ight: All grass3 all trees3 all
plants3 in e5ery part of the world3 all are part of the kingdo of the Earthly

kingdo3 that you ay touch her with the hands of the spirit3 and that her
power ay enter into your body:
@For . tell you truly3 there is a Holy (trea of +ife which ga5e birth to the
Earthly #other and all her angels: .n5isible is this (trea of +ife to the eyes of
the (ons of #en3 for they walk in darkness and see not the angels of the day
and of the night that surround the and ho5er o5er the: But the (ons of
+ight ha5e walked for se5en years with the angels of the day and of the night3
and now they are gi5en the secrets of counion with the angels: And the
eyes of your spirit shall be opened3 and you will see and hear and touch the

And Desus did not answer: But he placed his two hands around the growing
blades of grass in the pot3 gently3 as if it were the forehead of a little child:
And he closed his eyes3 and around hi were wa5es of light3 shiering in
the sun3 as the suer heat akes the light to treble under a cloudless
sky: And the Brothers knelt and bowed their heads in re5erence before the
power of the angels which poured forth fro the sitting 9gure of DesusE and
still he sat in silence3 with his hands closed as if in prayer around the blades
of grass:
And no one knew if an hour had passed3 or a year3 for tie stood still and it
was as if all creation held its breath: And Desus opened his eyes3 and the
scent of blossos 9lled the air as Desus spoke? @Here is the secret3 (ons of
+ightE here in the huble grass: Here is the eeting place of the Earthly
#other and the Hea5enly FatherE here is the (trea of +ife which ga5e birth

And one by one3 each of the Brothers sat in re5erence before the power of
the angels3 holding in his hands the tender grass: And each one felt the
(trea of +ife enter his body with the force of a rushing strea after a spring
stor: And the power of the angels Fowed into their hands3 up into their
ars3 and shook the ightily3 e5en as the wind of the north shakes the
branches of trees: And all of the wondered at the power in the huble
grass3 that it could contain a:& the angels3 and the kingdos of the Earthly
#other and the Hea5enly Father: And they sat before Desus3 and were taught

AndGesus said? @Behold3 (ons of +ight3 the lowly grass: (ee wherein are

in tie to e5erlasting life in the kingdo of your Hea5enly Father:
@For in the grass are all the angels: Here is the angel of (un3 here in the
brightness of the green color of the blades of wheat: For no one can look
upon the sun when it is high in the hea5ens3 for the eyes of the (on of #an
are blinded by its radiant light: And it is for this that the angel of (un turns to
green all that to which she gi5es life3 that the (on of #an ay look upon the
any and 5arious shades of green and 9nd strength and cofort therein: .
tell you truly3 all that is green and with life has the power of the angel of (un
within it3 e5en these tender blades of young wheat:
@And so does the angel of Cater bless the grass3 for . tell you truly3 there is
ore of the angel of Cater within the grass than any of the other angels of
the Earthly #other: For if you crush within your hands the grass3 you will feel
the water of life3 which is the blood of the Earthly #other: And all through the
days when you touch the grass and enter into the (trea of +ife3 do you gi5e
to the soil a few drops of water3 that the grass ay be renewed by the power
of the Angel of Cater:
