INI-VG Series
Intelligent Network Interface
Installation Instructions
PN 9000-0549:K1 03/21/13 ECN 12-0250
Section 1: Description
The INI-VG Series sub-assembly provides the audio network interface for the E3 Series

Expandable Emergency
Evacuation and Mass Notification Systems. It provides the connection for the remote microphone, fire fighter telephone,
one (1) signaling line circuit, and supports the connection for one (1), NGA sub-assembly.
Because the INI-VG Series sub-assembly is a modular design, it can be used in any type of system configuration to
function as a Fire Command Center and/or ACU, LOC-TEL or LOC-MIC for the Mass Notification System. This sub-
assembly is factory programmed to operate as any of the following network interfaces and accommodates either fiber-
optic cable or unshielded twisted-pair copper-pair wires.
INI-VGC-FO or INI-VGC-UTP is the network interface for the E3 Series Broadband Voice Command Center
System. It provides the expanded switch controls for the Autonomous Control Unit (ACU).
INI-VGE-FO or INI-VGE-UTP is the network interface for the E3 Series Classic Voice Command Center System. It
provides one (1) audio channel for the Bulk Amplification Systems used in Fire applications only.
INI-VGX-FO or INI-VGX-UTP is the network interface for the E3 Series Broadband Voice Command Center
System. It controls up to four (4) external AM-50 Series amplifiers for the Distributed Amplification Systems.

1.2 Mass Notification System (MNS)
The Gamewell-FCI, Mass Notification System (MNS) is a Combination In-Building Fire and Mass Notification System.
It comprises the E3 Series Broadband Emergency Voice Evacuation and the E3 Series Broadband Networked Fire Alarm
Systems. This design allows a wide range of configurations to form an integrated, distributed fire alarm system in
combination with the audio evacuation for both Fire and Mass Notification functions as desired. The design also allows
for its use as a dedicated standalone Mass Notification System without the fire alarm service. The network communication
conveys all Fire Alarm and Mass Notification control functions, audio evacuation, voice paging, and fire fighter
communications over a single pair of wires or fiber-optic cable. The modular design offers several configurations to
accommodate the following audio components:
Autonomous Control Unit (ACU), (Main Command Center)
Local Operating Console (LOC), (Remote Command Center)

Section 2: Installation
2.1 Installation Requirements
All components of the E3 Series

Fire Alarm and Mass Notification Systems should be installed per the following
requirements:
Installations are to be indoors only, in dry locations, protected from rain, water, and rapid changes in temperature that
could cause condensation. Equipment must be securely mounted on rigid, permanent walls.
Operating temperature shall not exceed the range of 32 to 120 F (0 to 49 C).
Operating humidity not to exceed 93% non-condensing at 90 F (32 C).
There should be adequate space around the installation to allow easy access for operation and servicing.
All sub-assemblies and components are to be located in compliance with the local and the national codes.
All installation field wiring shall be in compliance with the local and the national codes.
2.2 INI-VG Series Installation
1. Remove the unit from its static-shield bag, observing proper static protection measures.
2. Visually inspect the unit for damage.
If any components are damaged, notify the shipping carrier immediately. Report missing components to Gamewell-
FCI Customer Service.
3. Use the Hardware Kit provided with the unit.
4. Place the unit into position on the sub-chassis as shown in Figure2.2.1. To secure the unit, use six (6), (#4-40 x 1/4")
screws.
Figure 2.2.1 INI-VG Series Installation
5. If the network connection requires copper wiring, wire the Terminal Block TB1 inside the enclosure at any time.
6. If the connection requires fiber-optic wiring, follow the cable manufacturer's instructions for terminating the cable
and assembling the connector. Then, install the cable to the appropriate fiber-optic connector. (J 2, J 5, J 6, J 8).
IMPORTANT NOTE: COLD WATER/EARTH GROUND STANDARD:
Terminal TB3-3 on the ILI-MB-E3/ILI95-MB-E3 and the INI-VG Series terminal blocks must be
connected to an earth ground connection per Article 760 of the National Electrical Code. Failure to
make a proper earth ground connection from a metallic cold water pipe or driven ground rod to
this terminal will result in loss of lightning protection, reduce the tolerance of the system to
transients, and will adversely affect the operation of the system. Panel neutral or conduit ground is
not acceptable; minimum wire size is 14 AWG.
NOTE: The INI-VG Series sub-assembly can be installed in several types of configurations in the E3 Series
cabinets. To determine the INI-VG Series installation you require, refer to the following documents:
- E3 Series Expandable Emergency Evacuation Installation/Operation Manual, P/N: 9000-0574
- Mass Notification System (MNS) Installation/Operation Manual, P/N: LS10013-000GF-E
- NetSOLO

Broadband Installation/Operation Manual, P/N: 9000-0552

NOTE 1: The INI-VGC-UTP, INI-VGE-UTP, and INI-VGX-UTP are not equipped with fiber-optic connectors J 2, J 5, J 6,
or J 8.

Network Transponder cabinet also contains the PM-9/PM-9G power supply, up to four (4), AM-50 Series amplifiers
along with the standby batteries. (Batteries not included).
2. The installation of the INI-VGX does not require the removal of the sub-chassis from the enclosure. However, for a
new installation, you must remove the sub-chassis before you install the PM-9/PM-9G power supply.
3. Connect the 20-conductor ribbon cable to J 16 and then connect the cable to the AM-50 Series amplifiers as shown in
Figure2.2.2.
