*Call to Worship Linda Evans
Leader: God of grace: We have come for a glimpse of your kingdom of kindness,
People: a world where love rules over all, a world where enemies
embrace, a world where the distinctions between friend and foe
evaporate in the light of your love.
Leader: Knowing you have the power to transform us,
People: we give our lives over to you, body, soul, mind, spirit.
In Jesus name, Amen. Copyright Carol Penner, www.leadinginworship.com

*Opening Hymn 368 My Hope Is Built

*Prayer of Confession and Pardon
Lord God, your love for humankind present in the beginning of all things,
extends throughout history and touches each life. Your love sees failings
and forgives. Your love feels pain and wipes away our tears. Your love knows grief
and comforts the sorrowful. Your love sees sin and still loves the sinner.
Forgive us when we fail to live lives that reflect your love. Forgive us the many times
when we take for granted all that you have done for us. Transform us, through your
Spirit, and empower us to serve you, this day and all days. Amen.

Come Now Children
All children are invited to come forward as the congregation sings:
Come, now, children, this is your time; God loves you, we love you,
you are the gift of our church!

Childrens Message Rev. Chris Fuss

School Supply Update Thank you to the Aldersgate community for your generous monetary
contributions and school supply donations for the underserved children of Greer
Elementary. Because of your generosity, children will have smiles on their faces as they begin
the school year with supplies needed for a successful year. Over 200 bags of school supplies
were packed and delivered to Greer on Saturday, August 16th. Aldersgate continues to be a
Mission orientated church reaching out to those in need. Blessings to each of you and our
outreach ministries.

AMP is currently in search of a Drummer with intermediate to advance skill levels (kit
provided). This position require attending practice on Thursday nights, providing music for the
AMP service on Sundays at 11:30 and a willingness to support other musical activities within

Forum on Rt. 29 and Rio Road New Interchange Get the answers right from the
"facilitator" of the planning group. On Thursday, September 11, your Methodist Men are
hosting Philip Shucet, from Norfolk, as our guest speaker and he'll be open to your
comments. He'll be in town for a 2 pm meeting with Co. officials and then will join us at 6:30
pm for dinner followed by discussions at approximately 7:15 pm. We'll plan on meeting in the
community room unless we get a large crowd and then we'll move into "the great hall" since
the barbershop gals will be using the fellowship hall. Please get back to Merrill as soon as you
know if you (or who) will attend so we can get the correct food and arrange accommodations.

College Student Care Packages Can you believe it's time for another school year to start?!
With that in mind, please let me know any Aldersgate affiliated college student's address that
you may have. We send out care packages during exam times twice a year and the kids really
enjoy them and are glad to know that their church family is thinking about them. But we can't
send out the packages if we don't have the name and address! Please get the information to
either the church office or directly to Susan Reed (973-0766; you can leave message or
reedr3va@netzero.com). Thanks!

Our church is in need of a Treasurer - if you are interested please call Greg Brown 434-327-

while we are searching for our new treasurer. Sybil has been a wonderful treasurer and we
thank her for all the great work she did and continues to do.

ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE
Please join Aldersgate United Methodist Church in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
TODAY, 1pm in the church parking lot. Wayne Hamlin, a member of our church
family has been diagnosed with ALS. In honor of Wayne, we are issuing a challenge
to anyone to come out and support our efforts to bring awareness to ALS "Lou
Gehrig's Disease" disease. Buckets, ice, water, and loving support will be provided.
Wayne, and his famous smile will also be on hand for moral support. Monetary
donations in any amount will be accepted. If you can not contribute financially,
please take 5 minutes of your time to read about ALS on the ALS homepage http://
www.alsa.org/. Please come, join in the fun and support a member of our
family. Even if you do not accept the challenge, a loving presence of friends is
welcome. Help us STRIKE OUT ALS.

NEW AUMC DINNER GROUPS
We are organizing a new set of dinner groups this fall. While sharing food and fellowship, we
hope to get to know each other better and meet new people. This opportunity is open to
everyone who might be interested, including members, visitors, couples, and singles. Dinner
groups (~8) are coordinated by leaders and meet once a month for a pot-luck meal in
someones home or at a restaurant, depending on what works best for each set of participants.
Groups are shuffled every 3 months. This year we also plan to invite guests, in order to increase
our circle of friendship. On the sign-up sheet, please indicate whether you will be able to
participate regularly or want to join a group on an occasional basis, due to scheduling
constraints. For more information, please contact Melissa King: mdking26@gmail.com /
