Lesson plan 1

Class: 10 Subject: Mathematics

Topic: Circle Theorems Duration: 1

hour
Subtopic:
1. Inscribed Angle theorem
The angle subtended at the centre is twice the angle subtended at
the circumference.
2. Angle in a semicircle theorem
The angle subtended on the diameter of a circle is always a right
angle
Objectives:
By the end of this lesson students will
Understand the two circle theorems, involving inscribed
angles
Students will become able to apply these theorems to solve
different problems
Students will become able to create and identify a real life
application of these theorems.
Resources
Smart phones or ipads with Aurasma app installed in it, Bulletin
board, White or black board, Marker/ chalks, Worksheets.
Activity done by the teacher prior to the class
Teacher will prepare related auras (auras with 3-dimensional
overlays for the basic concepts of the circles and for the main activity) on
the Aurasma studio prior to the class to facilitate the students learning.
Further, teacher will prepare four bulletin boards, two for each
theorem. Those boards will contain the statement of the theorem and
some basic problems of the theorem. (Number of the board could vary
according to the class size).
Motivational Activity:
Students will be divided into groups of 5. A paper with the picture
of a circle will be given to the students. With the help of the Aurasma
app and the given sheet they will revise some basic concepts regarding
circle such as circumference of the circle, major and minor arcs, chords
etc.
Developmental Activity:
Two worksheets will be given to the students, each
containing problems of one of the theorems.
The bulletin boards will be place on the corners of the
classroom.
Each group will come according to their turn and use
Aurasma app to understand the theorems through the
overlays given in the auras. They will then further solve the
problems given in the worksheets after looking at the basic
problems given on the board with the help of Aurasma app.
After this activity students will again take their positions and
discuss with the teacher what they have learnt during the
activity. The teacher will clarify any misconceptions if exist.
Students will than work in same groups and find out the
relation between the two theorems and present it in-front of
the class. Teacher will than conclude the session by
discussing the learnt ideas as a whole class discussion and
help students clarify any left concept or misconception.

Home assignment:
In same groups students will work and find out a real life application of
the learnt circle theorem.
