Welcome to first grade! My name is Tiffany Brunner (Miss Brunner) and I will be your
students teacher this year. I graduated from Southern Utah University. I love nature and art and
hope to incorporate both in this years lessons. I love to read and am excited to share some fun
books with you and help you become better readers this year. This year we will learn about
reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. I am excited to learn and grow together.
I have put this packet together to let you know a bit about how my classroom will run.

Homework Folder: Please check your students homework folder/backpack nightly.
Notes and other important information will be sent home in this folder; not to mention the
homework.
Bi-Weekly Calendars: I will send a note home every other week, outlining homework and
any important upcoming news.

Homework:
Green Folder: The green folder is sent home Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday. It will contain your childs homework, any uncompleted class work, and any
important notes or classroom information. It should be sent back every day. Have your
student complete any work and put it back in the back to school side. Anything on the
Leave at home side should be taken out and looked over. Please sign the homework
log after seeing that your child has completed his or her work for the night.
Red Daily Reading: Each child is responsible to read each night. The reading folder will
contain a reading log to keep track of how long your student is reading at home. You
must list the name of the book and initial your name to indicate that you have read to
your child or your child has read to you.
Book Bags: Students will also bring Take Home Library books home Monday-
Thursday. These need to be signed and returned daily.

Literacy: Reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills are key in helping students succeed in
school and in life. These areas will make up the majority of instructional time. Reading at home
is essential. Please listen to your student read. Help him/her with literacy homework. Sign the
daily reading log as well of the book bags sheet.
Math: First graders will be able to count and write numbers up to 120, solve equations using
addition and subtraction within 100, learn to tell time by the hour and half hour, identify shapes
and solve problems. At home please discuss your students learning and help him/her with
homework without doing it for them. Math games will be sent home periodically. In addition,
each student will have an online account for practice with Go Math! The account details will be
sent home for you.
Attendance: For students to learn they must be in school. When students are absent they miss
learning opportunities. Please help your student to be here on time every day.
Sick Days: You may pick up work for your student, or Ill send it home upon his/her
return. This work needs to be completed and returned.
Vacations: If a vacation is planned, please let me know as soon as possible. I will
prepare a packet of work for him/her to take with them.
Current Information: It is critical that I have your most current contact information. If you move
or change phone numbers, please let me know immediately, in case of emergency.
Other Information:
Show and Tell: Students may bring something from home to share with the class on
Fridays. Toy weapons are never allowed.
Star of the Week: Each student will get to be the Stare of the Week. I will send
information home about being the star 1-2 weeks before his/her turn.
Snacks: Students will get snacks daily. You must sign and return the Snack
Permission form, stating your students food allergies before he/she will receive
snacks.
**Donations of healthy snacks are greatly appreciated.**
Volunteers: There will be many opportunities for you to help out in our class. I will let you know
of volunteer jobs in the Bi-Weekly calendars throughout the year. Id also love to have you share
your talents and interests with our class. Let me know what you are interested in helping out
with. The following are on-going volunteer opportunities in our classroom:
Math Centers: I will occasionally invite parents to help facilitate math activities.
Parent Shares: Please feel free to come in and read a story, teach us a song, teach us
about your culture and traditions, etc. any time throughout the year. Let me know what
you are interested in sharing with our class.
Celebrations: I will let you know in our calendar of upcoming celebrations throughout the
year. Parent help is greatly appreciated!
Field Trip Chaperones: Accompany our class on field trips; help keep students safe.
Copies. If you are able to come in and make copies for upcoming lessons and activities
it would be a huge help.


My Classroom Management Plan

Successful learning requires that students feel safe, comfortable, and able within their
school environment. We will work towards maintaining these elements on a daily basis in my
classroom. We will build a community of learners, where everyone respects and cares for each
other. To build such a place there are some strategies for management that we will practice in
our classroom. There are some rules that will never change in our classroom, they are:
1. KYHFOOTY (keep your hands, feet and other objects to yourself)
2. Be respectful to yourself, others, and property.
3. Follow directions the first time they are given.

In our classroom we will continually discuss what these rules mean and what they look like.
When rules and procedures are broken there are consequences for those actions, which we will
also discuss. Consequences for non-respectful and/or non-productive behaviors include:

: Receive a verbal warning.

: Move clip down one level.

rd
: Move clip down another level and receive a teacher chosen consequence.
Consequences may include going to Think Time, where students think about their behavior
and ways to change it; the loss of a privilege; practice time to practice the correct behavior.

: Move clip down to the final level and sign the behavior log. Parents will be notified and
the student will conference with the teacher.
Depending on the severity of the behavior, students may also:
Be removed from the situation (sent to another class or the front office)
Help create a plan for changing the behavior
Invite parents in for a conference to create a behavior plan

Students also have the chance to move their clips up a level. If students end the day above
the green line they will be rewarded for exceptional behavior. They will be rewarded with
recognition, congratulations, and sometimes a special prize.

Permission for Snacks at School


Daily Snacks: We will have a mid-morning snack each day. Snacks may include crackers,
vegetables, fruit, etc. Students may also get extra snacks on special occasions. Please fill out
the form below, giving your permission for your child to have snacks and telling of any food
allergies that she/he may have.
Birthdays: You may send a treat to school with your student on or near his/her birthday. Please
send enough for all 25 students (our class size may vary throughout the year). We cannot
accept any homemade or non-wrapped food items. Please keep in mind that we often have
classmates that are allergic to foods such as peanuts.
Donations: We will accept snack donations throughout the school year. If you choose to donate,
please send nutritious snacks, such as crackers, fruit snacks, sliced fruit or vegetables, etc.
Please keep in mind that we often have classmates that are allergic to foods such as
peanuts. We cannot accept any homemade or non-wrapped food items.

Mi Plan de Gestin del Aula

El aprendizaje exitoso requiere que los estudiantes se sientan seguros, cmodos y capaces
dentro de su entorno escolar. Trabajaremos para mantener estos elementos en una base diaria
en mi saln de clases. Vamos a construir una comunidad de estudiantes, donde todo el mundo
respeta y se preocupa por los dems. Para construir tal lugar hay algunas estrategias para la
gestin que vamos a practicar en nuestra aula. Hay algunas reglas que nunca va a cambiar en
nuestro saln de clases, que son:
