Breakout Sessions
Sunday breakout sessions will be presented
at 1:00 pm and repeated again at 3:00 pm.
Please indicate on your registration form your
choice of sessions for both the 1pm (Breakout A)
and 3 pm (Breakout B).
1. Restoring Hope in Couples Affected by
an Addiction
This workshop will examine the important role of
hope and other ingredients of change in couple
therapy; with a focus on couples coping with
addictions and mental health concerns.

2. Reducing Families Self-blame During
Times of Adversity
This presentation will explore how family
therapists can assist families in reducing self-
blame through their capacity to be present for
them emotionally.
Magdalini Agraoti, MA, RMFT
3. The Intergenerational Effects of the
Holocaust on Survivor Families
This workshop will provide understanding of
the emotional and cultural challenges that get
triggered through family life as they pertain to
survivor families.
Ruth Reiner, MA, RMFT
4. Eco-trauma and Resilience
This presentation will provide an opportunity for
therapists to recognize inuences of eco-trauma
in client stories and learn how to best position
themselves to assist.

Froma Walsh
PhD
is the Firestone
Professor Emerita at the
University of Chicago,
School of Social Service Administration and
Department of Psychiatry, and Co-Founder
& Co-Director of the Chicago Center for
Family Health. Dr. Walsh is the leading
expert on family resilience theory, research,
and practice. Her collaborative, systemic
practice approach integrates socio-cultural
and multi-faith spiritual perspectives. Dr.
Walsh is a Clinical Psychologist, AAMFT
Approved Supervisor, Past President,
American Family Therapy Academy; past
editor, Journal of Marital & Family Therapy;
and a recipient of numerous awards.
She is the author of over 120 articles and her
recent books include: Strengthening Family
Resilience, (2nd edition), Spiritual Resources
in Family Therapy (2nd edition); Normal
Family Processes: Growing Diversity and
Complexity, (4th edition); and Living Beyond
Loss: Death in the Family, (2nd edition).
Dr. Walsh received her B.A., University of
California, Berkeley; MSW, Smith College,
and PhD., University of Chicago; and served
as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco. An
inspiring presenter, she is a frequent speaker,
clinical trainer, and consultant internationally.

and reverberate through all relationships.
Multiple losses in major disasters, war-
related trauma, and community violence
compound challenges.
Integrating the Spiritual Dimension in

Suffering invites us into the spiritual domain.
As neurobiological research documents,
spiritual beliefs and practices have profound
inuence on healing and resilience,
particularly with serious crises, trauma, or
loss and chronic multi-stress conditions.
