LASER SAFETY
The WINDCUBEv2 is a class 1M Laser product.
CAUTION: The laser beam emitted by WINDCUBEv2 is in the infrared spectrum and is not
visible to the naked eye.
CAUTION: Do not stare directly into beam with optical instruments (binoculars or telescopes).
The beam is emitted through the Laser aperture situated on the top of the
WINDCUBEv2 at 28 angle off vertical. (Fig. 2).
CAUTION: The WINDCUBEv2 utilizes a class 4 Laser. In order to avoid eye injury, do not open
the optical head nor disconnect any optical fbers.

WINDCUBEv2 introduction
The WINDCUBEv2 is a Lidar (Light Detection
And Ranging) used for wind profle measure-
ment up to 200m.
The Lidar sends infrared laser pulses into the
atmosphere. Four beams are sent successively
in four cardinal directions along a 28scanning
cone angle. Laser pulses are backscattered
by aerosol particles in the air (dust, water
droplets, aerosol, etc.), that move at wind
speed. The collected backscattered light allows
for the calculation of wind speed and direction
using Doppler induced laser wavelength shift.
Up to 10 different range gates can simulta-
neously be measured using the laser pulse time
of fight allowing to measure the wind speed at
10 different heights.
The backscattered light is converted into an
electronic signal and digitized. A dedicated
signal processing algorithm computes wind
vector components from four consecutive line
of sight measurements. Leosphere Windsoft
software controls the hardware and performs
the processing. The user interacts with the
WINDCUBEv2 (measurement confguration
and real-time monitoring) through a graphical
user interface, Windweb. Windweb can be dis-
played on any web-browser.
Real time and statistical wind data are stored
on WINDCUBEv2s solid-state hard disk drive.
The user downloads accumulated data fles

Before installing your WINDCUBEv2, determine its future location and ensure that:
1. IDENTIFY LOCATION
The system is located away from any
obstacles in all wind directions of
interest (Fig. 6).
Wind
Obstacles do not interfere with any of the four
28 laser beams (Fig. 7).

In case the ground is soft and/or wet at the
site location, it is highly recommended to
install the WINDCUBEv2 on a wood palette
(or any hard material) to make sure that
the system level remains stable over time.
A proper and consistent level is vital to main-
tain in order to keep the same altitude on
both sides of the scanning cone and record
accurate data (Fig. 8).
To prevent theft, chain WINDCUBEv2 to
one or more ground anchors. Hook a hea-
vy duty chain (not included) through WIN-
DCUBEv2 ring (Fig. 9).
The anchor should be located below the
system so it is less visible to the public.

The WINDCUBEv2 does not integrate an emergency stop. When powered by the included AC/DC
power adapter, the user must remove the adapters main power plug from the grid. The user is
responsible for posting safety signs and maintaining easy access to the main power plug.

NOTE: For extreme outdoor temperatures, the system may not start immediately. It can be take
up to 10 hours if the WINDCUBEv2 is stored at 30C.

What is CNR?
CNR = Career to Noise Ratio
This value depends on the concentration of aerosols in the atmosphere that backscatter laser
light. High atmospheric backscatter coeffcient leads to high CNR.
CNR level depends on weather conditions.

dow of the windweb interface (Fig. 21).

The four curves should have approximately the same signal level. If one (or more) curves are
more than 3dB below the other, it means that an obstacle blocks one (or more) beam.

margin) and as shown in the good print screen above.

WINDCUBEv2 is designed to measure from 40m
to 200m with good data availability. However, the
system has technical limits: no value below 40m or
above 400m can be entered.
There is no minimum difference in distance between
successive altitudes of measurement.

1 - Window cleaning (Once a month):
If necessary, clean WINDCUBEv2 window with water or isopropanol (isopropyl rubbing alcohol)
and optical tissues
2 - Wiper liquid tank reflling (Frequency of reflling depends on climate and location):
Refll wiper liquid tank with a mixture of water and isopropanol according to the table below:

NOTE: Automotive wiper liquid should not be used; it may result in loss of measurement.
3 - Wiper blade change.
Lift the wiper arm.
Remove wiper blade, pulling it away from the middle.
Clip back the new blade, pushing it from the middle.
Replace the arm on the window
