Science Results
What is being released?
o 2014 Minnesota Assessment Results include student
performance in mathematics, reading and science from
three testing programs:
MCA
MCA-Modified
MTAS
o These tests measure how Minnesota students are doing on
state academic standards in mathematics, reading and
science.
o The assessments are direct measures of student
performance.

Test Overview

Mathematics assessments in grades 3-8 and grade 11
test performance on 2007 Minnesota Academic
Standards
o MCA-III was first given to grade 3-8 students in 2011
o MCA-III for grade 11 students is a new assessment given
to students for the first time in 2014
o The increased test rigor is consistent with higher
expectations in new standards
Reading assessments in grades 3-8 and 10 test
performance on 2010 Minnesota Academic Standards
o MCA-III was first given to students in 2013
Science assessments in grades 5, 8, and HS test
performance on 2009 Minnesota Academic Standards
o MCA-III started in 2012 for science

2014 MCA Assessment Results Summary
Mathematics MCA-III: Grades 3-8
o Performance of student groups continues to improve

Reading MCA-III: Grades 3-8 and 10
o Performance of all student groups improved by at
least one percent, except for English learners who
held steady.

Science MCA-III: Grades 5, 8 and High School
o Performance of student groups by Ethnicity
continues to improve, Special Education holds
steady and English learners drop slightly.

2014 Accountability Results
What about MMR and AYP?
o Information about how well individual schools are
meeting Minnesotas expectations will be released in
early October.

o The second phase of reporting will provide information
about:
MMR provides information about how well
individual schools are performing
AYP results will be used to support the MMR
Growth emphasis will tell us if students are on
track in academic performance.
2014 growth expectations are being finalized in
the coming weeks.
