Mass is the amount of mather that a body

has.
Mass does not vary. It is always the same no
matter where the body is located and the
conditions that it is in.
Mass is measured with an instrument called a
scale.
Its unit of measurement is the kilogram.
Small bodies such as rice can also be
measured in grams an large bodies like ships
can be measured in tons.

Mass is not same as weight.
Mass is the amount of matter. Weight is the
measurement of the pull of gravity on a body.

VOLUME

The space that a body occupies is called
volume.
Depending on the state that body is in,
volume may or may not vary.
The volume of a liquid can be measured with
various instrument; the most commonly used
are test tubes and pipettes.
Its unit of measure is cubic centrimeters, but
we usually use liters or milliliters.

MATTER

Even though the objects are different in
shape, size, color, taste, or texture, they are
all formed by matter.
Matter is everything that has mass and
occupies space or, in other words, has
volume.
Mass and volume are properties of matter.

SOLIDS, LIQUIDS AND GASES

As you know, everithing around us is matter.
Matter has mass and occupies space, but
what is matter?
- Matter is formed by particles
- Particles are always in movement or
vibrating.
- Between particles there are forces which
allow them yo stay together or be apart
- Some of the states that we can find matter
in are solid, liquido or gass

To understand why matter can be found in
different states we must take into account the
forc of attraction between its particles.

SOLIDS
The particles are tightly packed an are in
fixed positions, which is why they vibrate and
do not move.

LIQUIDS
The particles are slightly packed together but
have a Little more space between them,
which means they can move around.

GAS
The particles are completely separated from
each other and can move aound freely. There
is no forc that keeps the particles together.

MATTER HAS SHAPER AND VOLUME

The particles of substances that are in a
liquid state are more separate (in comparison
to solid states).
They also move around easily, which means
that they can move on top of and around
each other.

MATTER HAS SHAPER AND VOLUME

Due to this, liquids adopt the form of the
container that they are in. In other words they
do not have a fixed shape. The particles of
solid matter are tightly packed together, so
they are difficult to separated.
This explains why solids have a fixed shape.
However, the volumen og the substances
does not change in either case; therefore,
both solids and liquids have a constant
volumen.

MATTER HAS SHAPER AND VOLUME

Gas ocuupies all of the available space;
therefore its volumen is not constant. This
means it does not have a fixed shape, so it
takes the shape of the container it is in.

Most gases are colorless because the
particles are so far apart form each other.

MATTER FLOWS

Liquids have the ability to flow. To flow
means to move constantly from one place to
another because the forces uniting the
particles are weak.

Gas also has the ability to flow, since it has
almost no forces keeping it together.

MATTER FLOWS

Solids, on the contrary, do not have the
ability to flow. The forc that unites their
particles is very strong.

FLOW is the ability of liquids to continuosly
move from one place to another.

CHANGING STATES OF MATTER
When matter changes from one physical form
to another, a change of state occurs.
Changes of state happen when there is an
increase or decrease in temperatura.

MELTING OR FUSION: change from a solid
state to a liquid state due to an increase in
temperatura

VAPORIZATION: change from a liquid state to
a gas state, generally due to an increase in
temperatura

DEPOSITION: change from a gas state to a
solid state due to a decrease in temperatura

SOLIDIFICATION: change from a liquid state
to a solid state due to a decrease in
temperature.

CONDENSATION: change from a gas state to
a liquid state due to a decrease in
temperature.

SUBLIMATION: change from a solid state to
a gas state due to an increase in temperature.
