MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTROPICAL es
una publicacin peridica semestral (junio y
diciembre) dedicada a la difusin de investiga-
ciones originales en las variadas disciplinas que
estudian a los mamferos neotropicales, vivien-
tes o extintos. Los manuscritos son sometidos
a evaluacin de pares, mediante un sistema de
Editores Asociados y revisores especialistas.
MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTROPICAL
acepta manuscritos en espaol, portugus e
ingls. Se consideran 2 tipos principales de
manuscritos, en funcin de su longitud: ar-
tculos (mximo 12000 palabras, incluyendo
texto y referencias) y notas (mximo 3000
palabras). Para manuscritos ms extensos los
autores deben comunicarse previamente con
el Editor. Tambin se publican, en la medida
de su disponibilidad, otras contribuciones
como resmenes de tesis, revisiones de libros,
comentarios, noticias, etc.
MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTROPICAL se
publica con fondos de la Sociedad Argentina
para el Estudio de los Mamferos (SAREM),
los cuales provienen mayormente del pago de
cuotas societarias. Como consecuencia, los
socios de SAREM con la cuota societaria anual
paga tienen derecho a publicar sin costo. Los
autores que no sean socios de SAREM pueden
publicar en MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTRO-
PICAL considerando un costo bsico de u$s
15 por pgina hasta 10 pginas impresas, u$s
10 por pgina entre 11 a 25 pginas y u$s 20
por pgina excedente. Resmenes de tesis y
revisiones de libros se publican sin costo.
ORGANIZACIN DEL MANUSCRITO
1. Aspectos generales. Los autores podrn
someter los resultados de sus investigaciones
para ser publicados en MASTOZOOLOGA
NEOTROPICAL, considerando las siguientes
pautas: la informacin contenida en el trabajo
no deber ser enviada a otra revista y debe ser
original. Debe evitarse la fragmentacin de los
trabajos de investigacin. Esto implica que el
autor principal debe asegurar que ninguno de
los coautores haya enviado una versin del
documento para su publicacin a otra revista.
No se deben resear nombres fcticios como
autor o coautor. Los autores que someten un
manuscrito para publicacin aceptan la respon-
sabilidad por las personas que son incluidas.
2. Formato. El manuscrito debe ser remiti-
do a la revista en formato DOC o RTF con
tablas y fguras incluidas (asegurndose que
estas ltimas tengan una calidad razonable
para su evaluacin pero no de tal magnitud
que generen archivos muy grandes). Todo el
texto (incluyendo la literatura citada) deber
ser escrito a doble espacio, con letra cuerpo
12 (fuente Times New Roman), en hojas A4
numeradas correlativamente, con 2.5 cm. de
mrgenes (en todos los casos), sin justifcar
el margen derecho y con lneas numeradas.
Todos los prrafos deben ser indentados con
una tabulacin de 1 cm. No deben utilizarse
negritas en ninguna parte del texto. Las nicas
palabras que deben escribirse en cursivas o
itlicas son los nombres cientfcos de categora
genrica o inferior. En el texto, fguras y tablas,
utilizar el sistema mtrico para la indicacin
de las medidas y grados Celsius para las tem-
peraturas. Las fguras deben ser referidas en
el texto mediante la abreviatura Fig. o Figs.
Para los nmeros con cifras decimales utilice
puntos (e. g., 25.6). Los nmeros entre uno y
nueve deben escribirse en smbolos (e. g., 1).
Designe el tiempo de reloj en el sistema de
24 horas y escrbalo como 06:30 20:00. Las
diversas expresiones latinas, e. g., et al., vide,
fde, i. e., sensu, se escribirn en texto normal.
No se aceptarn notas al pie de pgina.
3. Primera pgina. Deber contener el ttulo,
autor/es, direccin laboral, ttulo breve y nom-
bre del autor para correspondencia. El ttulo
se escribir justifcado a izquierda, en mays-

culas con letra normal, excepto los nombres
cientfcos que se escribirn en cursivas con
maysculas y minsculas. Dejando un rengln
se escribir el nombre del/los autores, indicando
con superndice numrico direcciones laborales.
Uno de los nombres de cada autor debe escri-
birse completo, seguido de las iniciales (en caso
de tener ms de un nombre) y, fnalmente, el
apellido. La direccin completa de cada autor
debe incluir nombre completo de la institucin,
calle y nmero, cdigo postal, localidad y pas.
Indicar el autor para correspondencia y brindar
para el mismo la direccin de e-mail. Proveer
un ttulo breve (no mayor de 50 caracteres)
indicativo de la temtica del manuscrito (prefe-
rentemente, un abreviado del ttulo completo),

Ttulo breve: EL GENERO Eptesicus EN LAS YUNGAS
4. Segunda pgina y siguientes. Debern
contener el resumen, palabras clave y el cuerpo
principal del texto. Los manuscritos en espaol
deben incluir RESUMEN (en espaol), ABS-
TRACT (en ingls norteamericano), Palabras
clave (en espaol) y Key words (en ingls
norteamericano), en ese orden; los manuscri-
tos en portugus deben incluir RESUMO (en
portugus), ABSTRACT, Palavras chave (en
portugus) y Key words; los manuscritos en
ingls deben incluir ABSTRACT, RESUMEN
o RESUMO (segn preferencia de los autores),
Key words y Palabras clave o Palavras chave. El
ttulo del trabajo deber traducirse al idioma
complementario. La longitud mxima para el
resumen es de 250 palabras para artculos y 100
para notas. Las palabras clave no deben ser ms
de 5 por idioma, deben estar alfabticamente
ordenadas en cada idioma y ser indicativas del
contenido del manuscrito, y, en lo posible, no
repetir aquellas que conforman el ttulo. El texto
de los artculos se dividir preferentemente en
las secciones tradicionales: INTRODUCCIN,
MATERIALES Y METODOS, RESULTADOS,
DISCUSIN, CONCLUSIONES, AGRADE-
CIMIENTOS, LITERATURA CITADA. Pue-
den emplearse otros ttulos o combinaciones
de stos. Siempre el inicio de una seccin de
importancia principal debe indicarse a modo
de ttulo principal y en MAYUSCULAS. Los
subttulos deben subrayarse, sin punto fnal y
el texto se comienza a escribir, indentado, en el
rengln siguiente. En las notas, no se utilizar
divisin por secciones.
5. Literatura citada. Los autores debern ser
cuidadosos de agregar en la literatura citada
todos los trabajos indicados en el texto y vi-
ceversa. Evite las citas de resmenes. Para las
citas en el texto escriba el nombre del autor
y luego de una coma, el ao (e. g., Yepes,
1944). Para citas del autor dentro del prrafo:
Yepes (1944), es decir, el ao se indica entre
parntesis. Para trabajos de dos autores, ambos
deben ser incluidos: Cabrera y Yepes (1940).
Para trabajos de ms de dos autores escriba
el primer autor seguido de et al. (Flores et al.,
2001) o Flores et al. (2001), segn corresponda.
Cuando deban citarse numerosos autores en
un prrafo ordene las citas cronolgicamente:
Ameghino (1889), Reig et al. (1987), Pascual
(1995), Patton et al. (1996), DEla (2003).
Cuando la lista de autores va encerrada entre
parntesis, cada cita va separada por punto
y coma: (Ameghino, 1889; Reig et al., 1987;
Pascual, 1995; Patton et al., 1996; DEla, 2003).

6. Apndices. Si correspondiera, luego de la
literatura citada se incluirn apndices (nu-
merados en formato arbigo) para detallar
materiales examinados, listados de localidades,
etc. No se aceptarn manuscritos de revisin
taxonmica o sistemtica sin el correspondiente
apndice de especmenes estudiados (o, alter-
nativamente, su listado en alguna seccin del
texto o tablas).
7. Material suplementario. Los autores que lo
deseen pueden agregar material suplementario
en archivos separados que sern publicados solo
en la versin on-line. MASTOZOOLOGA
NEOTROPICAL no editar este material y su
responsabilidd se limitar a disponer el acceso
en su sitio web.
8. Tablas. Las tablas, numeradas en formato
arbigo, se agregarn al fnal del manuscrito,
cada una en hoja aparte encabezada por la
leyenda correspondiente, que debe ser concisa
y autoexplicativa. Las tablas debern contener
solo las lneas horizontales y no debern con-
tener lneas verticales en ningn caso.
9. Figuras. Trate de disear ilustraciones para
una sola columna (ancho preferente 65 mm),
columna y media (120 mm) o ancho de caja
(140 mm). Al disear las imgenes trate de
evitar el desperdicio de espacio. Si la fgura
contiene elementos menores que deben ser
indicados, emplee en lo posible letra Arial con
cuerpo adecuado al tamao. Las escalas grfcas
no deben llevar unidades (esta informacin se
indica en el epgrafe) excepto en el caso de los
mapas. En los grfcos (e. g., curvas, histogra-
mas) emplee letra Arial, nunca Times New
Roman. Una vez aceptados los manuscritos, los
autores deben enviar los archivos de imagen en
formato TIFF o JPG con calidad no inferior a
300 dpi. Las fguras en color son bienvenidas y
no tienen costo adicional en la versin digital.
10. Otras contribuciones. En la medida de
su disponibilidad, MASTOZOOLOGA NEO-
TROPICAL acepta otras contribuciones como
resmenes de tesis, revisiones de libros, comen-
tarios, noticias, etc. Para el caso de resmenes
de tesis, los mismos deben contener la siguiente
informacin: ttulo de la tesis, tipo de tesis y
nombre de la carrera (por ejemplo, Tesis de
Doctorado en Ciencias Biolgicas), fecha de
defensa de la tesis, nmero de pginas, nombre
y direccin de correo electrnico del tesista,
universidad, nombre del/los director/es de tesis,
nombres de los miembros del tribunal o comit
evaluador y resumen de la tesis (mximo 1200
palabras, preferentemente sin citas bibliogrf-
cas). Las revisiones de libros deben contener
la siguiente informacin: nombre completo del
libro, autores, ao de publicacin, editorial, can-
tidad de pginas y texto principal de la revisin
(preferentemente de hasta 1500 palabras); al
fnal, resear el nombre y lugar de trabajo de
los autores de la revisin y, de corresponder, las
citas bibliogrfcas. Los comentarios, noticias
o aportes de otra naturaleza deben ser primero
acordados con el Editor.

EL PROCESO DE REVISIN
Los manuscritos que no cumplan con las nor-
mas editoriales sern devueltos a los autores
antes de ingresar al proceso de revisin para
que sean reordenados de acuerdo con estas.
Los manuscritos que pasen esta etapa sern
enviados a un Editor Asociado, quien a su vez
seleccionar al menos dos revisores especialistas
en la temtica del manuscrito e informar al
autor sobre los resultados de la evaluacin y
los pasos a seguir en caso de que el manuscrito
sea aceptado para su publicacin.
GUIDELINES FOR PUBLICATION

MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTROPICAL is a
biannual (June and December) peer-reviewed
journal. It is dedicated to the publication of
original investigations dealing with all aspects
of the biology of mammals, alive or extinct,
from the Neotropical region. Manuscripts are
peer-reviewed by a system of Associate Editors
and by internationally renowned specialists in
the diferent subjects.
MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTROPICAL
accepts manuscripts written in English, Por-
tuguese and Spanish, and publishes articles
(up to 12 000 words including text and refer-
ences), and notes (up to 3 000 words). For
more extensive manuscripts authors should
contact the Editor. Depending on space and
time availability, other contributions, like dis-
sertation abstracts, books reviews, comments,
and news, are also welcome.
Funds for the publication of MASTOZO-
OLOGA NEOTROPICAL are provided by
the Sociedad Argentina para el Estudio de los
Mamferos (SAREM), whose resources consist
mainly of member subscriptions. Consequently,
members of SAREM not in arrears for dues
can publish in the Journal with no cost per
page. Authors not members of SAREM can
publish considering a basic cost per printed
page of u$s 15 for 1 to 10 pages, u$s 10 for 11
to 25 pages, and u$s 20 for exceeding pages.
Dissertation abstracts and books reviews are
published with no cost.
MANUSCRIPT LAYOUT
1. General aspects. Authors can submit the
results of their investigations to be published in
MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTROPICAL accord-
ing to the following guidelines: the information
contained in the manuscript must be original,
and must not be submitted to any other journal.
Fragmentation of information must be avoided.
Tis implies that the main author must guar-
antee that none of the co-authors has sent a
version of the document, nor part of it, for
publication in another journal. No fctitious
names for authors or co-authors must be used.
Te main author accepts the responsibility for
the co-authors.
2. Format. Manuscripts should be in DOC or
RTF format, including tables and fgures (the
latter of a reasonably quality for evaluation
purposes but avoiding oversized files). All
the text (including literature cited) should be
written double-spaced with letter size 12 (font
Times New Roman), in A4 pages numbered in
correlative numeric order, with 2.5 cm margins
(in all cases). Text should be lef-aligned and
all lines should be numbered. All paragraphs
should have a 1 cm indent. Bold face should

not be used in any part of the manuscript.
Te only words in italics will be the scientifc
names of generic or inferior category. In the
text, fgures and tables use the metric system
for measurements and Celsius centigrade for
temperatures (C). Figures should be referred to
as Fig. or Figs. Use a dot for the decimal point
instead of commas (e.g., 25.6). Use numerals
for values from one through nine. Clock time
should be written using the 24-hour system
(06:30 or 20:00). Te Latin expressions, as e.g.,
et al., vide, fde, i.e., must be written in normal
style. Footnotes are not allowed.
3. First page. It should contain the title,
author/s, work address, short title, and name
of corresponding author. Te title will be lef-
aligned, in uppercase and normal style, except
for the scientifc names that will be written in
italics in upper and lower case. Afer a blank
line, write the author/s name with a superscript
number that will refer to the work addresses.
Each authors frst name should be fully written
followed by the initials of the middle names
(if any), and the last name. Each authors ad-
dress should include the institutions full name,
street, number, zip code, city, and country. State
the corresponding authors name and e-mail.
Also provide a short title (not exceeding 50
characters) that summarizes the contents of
the paper (preferably a short version of the
full title), IN UPPERCASE.

4. Second and following pages. They will
contain the abstract, key words, and body text.
Spanish manuscripts will include a RE-
SUMEN (in Spanish) and an ABSTRACT (in
US English); also, Palabras clave (in Spanish)
and Key words (in US English). Portuguese
manuscripts will include a RESUMO (in
Portuguese), an ABSTRACT (in US English),
Palavras chve (in Portuguese) and Key words
(in US English). Manuscripts in English will in-
clude an ABSTRACT, RESUMEN or RESUMO
(according to the authors preferences), Key
words and Palabras clave or Palavras chve. Te
title will be translated to the complementary
language. Te abstract should not exceed 250
words in the case of regular articles, or 100
words in the case of notes. Tere should be
no more than fve key words alphabetically
arranged in each language, they should point
to the contents of the text, and they should not
repeat words in the title. Articles will preferably
be divided into the classical sections: INTRO-
DUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS,
RESULTS, DISCUSSION, ACKNOWLEDG-
MENTS, and LITERATURE CITED. Other
headers can be added if needed. Always use
UPPERCASE for the main headers. Subtitles
must be underlined, without period, and text
must start indented in the following line. For
notes, no division into sections will be used.
5. Literature cited. Te authors should be care-
ful to include all citations from the text in the
literature cited section, and vice versa. Avoid
citation of abstracts. For citations within the
text, write the name of the author followed by a
comma and then the year of publication (Yepes,
1944). For citations within a paragraph follow
this format: Yepes (1944), with the year within
parenthesis. For papers written by two authors,
both must be mentioned: Cabrera and Yepes
(1940). For papers with more than two authors
write the name of the frst author, followed by
et al., and the year of publication (Flores et
al., 2001) or Flores et al. (2001). When several
authors are to be cited within a paragraph, fol-
low a chronological order: Ameghino (1889),
Reig et al. (1987), Pascual (1995), Patton et al.
(1996), DEla (2003). When several authors
are included within parenthesis, each citation

6. Appendixes. If necessary, afer the literature
cited the authors may include appendixes
(mumbered with Arabic numerals) to provide
additional details of the specimens examined,
gazetteers, etc. Manuscripts dealing with
taxonomic or systematic revision will not be
accepted if lacking the corresponding appendix
with the studied specimens (or a list or table
in another section of the paper).
7. Supplementary material. Te authors may
provide supplementary material in separate fles
that will be published only in the on-line ver-
sion. MASTOZOOLOGA NEOTROPICAL
will not edit that material, but will only grant
the access to the web site.
8. Tables. Tey should be provided at the end
of the manuscript, one per page and with the
corresponding legend at the top, and num-
bered with Arabic numerals. Legends should
be concise and self-explaining. Tables should
be design using only horizontal lines.
9. Figures. Try to design illustrations that can
ft in one column (65 mm wide), a column and
a half (120 mm) or full page (140 mm). When
designing an image do not leave unnecessary
blank space around. If the figure contains
smaller elements that should be pointed, use
Arial font of an adequate size. Graphic scales
should not include scale units; that information
will be provided in the corresponding legend
(except for the maps). Use Arial font (never
Times New Roman) for graphics (i.e. curves,
histograms). Once the manuscript is accepted,
the authors will send the image fles with TIFF
or JPG extensions, with a defnition never less
than 300 dpi. Color fgures are welcome and
have no additional cost in the on-line version.
10. Other contributions. Depending on space
and time availability, MASTOZOOLOGA
NEOTROPICAL accepts other contributions
such as dissertation abstracts, books reviews,
comments, news, etc. Te dissertation abstracts
should contain: title, kind of dissertation and
career name (example, PhD Dissertation in
Biological Sciences), dissertation date, number
of pages, name and e-mail of student, univer-
sity, and name of thesis director/s, name of the
committee or board members, followed by the
dissertation abstract text (maximum of 1200
words and preferably with no literature cited).
Te books reviews should contain: full name of
the book, author/s, year of publication, publisher,

THE REVIEWING PROCESS
Te manuscripts that do not comply with these
guidelines will be returned to the author/s for
rearrangement before undergoing the reviewing
process. Te manuscripts that pass this stage
will be sent to an Associate Editor who will
select two reviewers from the corresponding
area of expertise. He or she will also inform
the author/s the results of the evaluation and
the following steps in case the manuscript is
accepted for publication.
